Happiness
is something that people seek to find,
yet what defines happiness can vary from one person to the next. Typically, happiness is an emotional state characterized by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfillment. While happiness has many different definitions, it is often described as involving positive emotions and life satisfaction.

When most people talk about the true meaning of happiness, they might be talking about how they feel in the present moment or referring to a more general sense of how they feel about life overall.

FLOWER GLOW - Flowers & Nature Background Wallpapers on Desktop Nexus ...

Because happiness tends to be such a broadly defined term, psychologists and other social scientists typically use the term subjective well-being when they talk about this emotional state. Just as it sounds, subjective wellbeing tends to focus on an individual’s overall personal feelings about their life in the present.

How to Glowing Effect Fantasy Photo Manipulation Photoshop Tutorial ...

Two key components of happiness (or subjective wellbeing) are:

  • The balance of emotions: Everyone experiences both positive and negative emotions, feelings, and moods. Happiness is generally linked to experiencing more positive feelings than negative ones.
  • Life satisfaction: This relates to how satisfied you feel with different areas of your life including your relationships, work, achievements, and other things that you consider important.

Another definition of happiness comes from the ancient philosopher Aristotle, who suggested that happiness is the one human desire, and all other human desires exist as a way to obtain happiness.

He believed that there were four levels of happiness: happiness from immediate gratification, from comparison and achievement, from making positive contributions, and from achieving fulfillment

Happiness, Aristotle suggested, could be achieved through the golden mean, which involves finding a balance between deficiency and excess.

Signs of Happiness

While perceptions of happiness may be different from one person to the next, there are some key signs that psychologists look for when measuring and assessing happiness.

Stunning View Wallpapers - Wallpaper Cave

Some key signs of Happiness include:

  • Feeling like you are living the Life you wanted
  • Going with the flow and a willingness to take life as it comes
  • Feeling that the conditions of your life are good
  • Enjoying positive, healthy relationships with other people
  • Feeling that you have accomplished (or will accomplish) what you want in life
  • Feeling satisfied with your life
  • Feeling positive more than negative
  • Being open to new ideas and experiences
  • Practicing selfcare and treating yourself with kindness and compassion
  • Experiencing gratitude
  • Feeling that you are living life with a sense of meaning and purpose
  • Wanting to share your happiness and joy with others

One important thing to remember is that happiness isn’t a state of constant euphoria. Instead, happiness is an overall sense of experiencing more positive emotions than negative ones.

Happy people still feel the whole range of Human emotions anger, frustration, boredom, loneliness, and even sadness from time to time. But even when faced with discomfort, they have an underlying sense of optimism that things will get better, that they can deal with what is happening, and that they will be able to feel happy again.

.
Types of Happiness

There are many different ways of thinking about happiness. For example, the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle made a distinction between two different kinds of happiness: hedonia and eudaimonia.

  • Hedonia: Hedonic happiness is derived from .pleasure  It is most often associated with doing .what feels good, self-care, fulfilling desires, experiencing enjoyment, and feeling a sense of satisfaction.
    ,
  • Eudaimonia: This type of happiness is derived from seeking virtue and meaning. Important components of eudaimonic wellbeing including feeling that your life has meaning, value, and purpose. It is associated more with fulfilling responsibilities, investing in long-term goals, concern for the welfare of other people, and living up to personal ideals.

Hedonia and eudemonia are more commonly known today in psychology as pleasure and meaning, respectively. More recently, psychologists have suggested the addition of the third component that relates to engagement. These are feelings of commitment and participation in different areas of life.

Research suggests that happy people tend to rank pretty high on eudaimonic life satisfaction and better than average on their hedonic life satisfaction.

All of these can play an important role in the overall experience of happiness, although the relative value of each can be highly subjective. Some activities may be both pleasurable and meaningful, while others might skew more one way or the other.

For example, volunteering for a cause you believe in might be more meaningful than pleasurable. Watching your favorite tv show, on the other hand, might rank lower in meaning and higher on pleasure.

Some types of happiness that may fall under these three main categories include:

  • Joy: A often relatively brief feeling that is felt in the present moment
  • Excitement: A happy feeling that involves looking forward to something with positive anticipation
  • Gratitude: A positive emotion that involves being thankful and appreciative
  • Pride: A feeling of satisfaction in something that you have accomplished
  • Optimism: This is a way of looking at life with a positive, upbeat outlook
  • Contentment: This type of happiness involves a sense of satisfaction

.
How to Cultivate Happiness

While some people just tend to be naturally happier, there are things that you can do to cultivate your sense of happiness.

Pursue Intrinsic Goals

Achieving goals that you are intrinsically motivated to pursue, particularly ones that are focused on personal growth and community, can help boost happiness. Research suggests that pursuing these types of intrinsically-motivated goals can increase happiness more than pursuing extrinsic goals like gaining money or status.

Enjoy the Moment

Studies have found that people tend to over earn they become so focused on accumulating things that they lose track of actually enjoying what they are doing.

So, rather than falling into the trap of mindlessly accumulating to the detriment of your own happiness, focus on practicing gratitude for the things you have and enjoying the process as you go

Reframe Negative Thoughts

When you find yourself stuck in a pessimistic outlook or experiencing negativity, look for ways that you can reframe your thoughts in a more positive way.

People have a natural negativity bias, or a tendency to pay more attention to bad things than to good things. This can have an impact on everything from how you make decisions to how you form impressions of other people. Discounting the positive a cognitive distortion where people focus on the negative and ignore the positive can also contribute to negative thoughts.

Reframing these negative perceptions isn’t about ignoring the bad. Instead, it means trying to take a more balanced, realistic look at events. It allows you to notice patterns in your thinking and then challenge negative thoughts.

Impact of Happiness

Why is happiness so important? Happiness has been shown to predict positive outcomes in many different areas of life including mental wellbeing, physical health, and overall longevity.

  • Positive emotions increase satisfaction with life.
  • Happiness helps people build stronger coping skills and emotional resources.
  • Positive emotions are linked to better health and longevity. One study found that people who experienced more positive emotions than negative ones were more likely to have survived over a 13 year period.
  • Positive feelings increase resilience. Resilience helps people better manage stress and bounce back better when faced with setbacks. For example, one study found that happier people tend to have lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol and that these benefits tend to persist over time.
  • People who report having a positive state of wellbeing are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors such as eating fruits and vegetables and engaging in regular physical exercise.
  • Being happy may help you get sick less often. Happier mental states are linked to increased immunity.

How to Be a Happier Person

Some people seem to have a naturally higher baseline for happiness one largescale study of more than 2,000 twins suggested that around 50% of overall Life satisfaction was due to genetics, 10% to external events, and 40% to individual activities.

So while you might not be able to control what your “base level” of happiness is, there are things that you can do to make your life Happier and more fulfilling. Even the happiest of individuals can feel down from time to time and happiness is something that all people need to consciously pursue.

Cultivate Strong Relationships

Social support is an essential part of well-being. Research has found that good social relationships are the strongest predictor of happiness. Having positive and supportive connections with people you care about can provide a buffer against stress, improve your health, and help you become a happier person.

In the Harvard Study of Adult Development, a longitudinal study that looked at participants over 80 years, researchers found that relationships and how happy people are in those relationships strongly impacted overall health.

So if you are trying to improve your happiness, cultivating solid social connections is a great place to start. Consider deepening your existing relationships and explore ways to make new friends.

Get Regular Exercise

Exercise is good for both your body and mind. Physical activity is linked to a range of physical and psychological benefits including improved mood. Numerous studies have shown that regular exercise may play a role in warding off symptoms of depression, but evidence also suggests that it may also help make people happier, too.

In one analysis of past research on the connection between physical activity and happiness, researchers found a consistent positive link.

Even a little bit of exercise produces a happiness boost people who were physically active for as little as 10 minutes a day or who worked out only once a week had higher levels of happiness than people who never exercised.

Show Gratitude

In one study, participants were asked to engage in a writing exercise for 10 to 20 minutes each night before bed.13 Some were instructed to write about daily hassles, some about neutral events, and some about things they were grateful for. The results found that people who had written about gratitude had increase positive emotions, increased subjective happiness, and improve life satisfaction.

As the authors of the study suggest, keeping a gratitude list is a relatively easy, affordable, simple, and pleasant way to boost your mood. Try setting aside a few minutes each night to write down or think about things in your life that you are grateful for.

.
Find a Sense of Purpose

Research has found that people who feel like they have a purpose have better well-being and feel more fulfilled. A sense of purpose involves seeing your life as having goals, direction, and meaning. It may help improve happiness by promoting healthier behaviors.

Some things you can do to help find a sense of purpose include:

  • Explore your interests and passions
  • Engage in prosocial and altruistic causes
  • Work to address injustices
  • Look for new things you might want to learn more about

This sense of purpose is influenced by a variety of factors, but it is also something that you can cultivate. It involves finding a goal that you care deeply about that will lead you to engage in productive, positive actions in order to work toward that goal.

Challenges of Finding Happiness

While seeking happiness is important, there are times when the pursuit of life satisfaction falls short. Some challenges to watch for include:

Valuing the Wrong Things

Money may not be able to buy Happiness, but there is research that spending money on things like experiences can make you happier than spending it on material possessions

One study, for example, found that spending money on things that buy time such as spending money on time-saving services can increase happiness and life satisfaction.

Rather than overvaluing things such as money, status, or material possessions, pursuing goals that result in more free time or enjoyable experiences may have a higher happiness reward.

Not Seeking Social Support

Social support means having friends and loved ones that you can turn to for support. Research has found that perceived social support plays an important role in subjective wellbeing. For example, one study found that perceptions of social support were responsible for 43% of a person’s level of Happiness.

It is important to remember that when it comes to social support, quality is more important than quantity. Having just a few very close and trusted friends will have a greater impact on your overall happiness than having many casual acquaintances.

Thinking of Happiness as an Endpoint

Happiness isn’t a goal that you can simply reach and be done with. It is a constant pursuit that requires continual nurturing and sustenance.

One study found that people who tend to value happiness most also tended to feel the least satisfied with their lives. Essentially, happiness becomes such a lofty goal that it becomes virtually unattainable

“Valuing happiness could be self-defeating because the more people value happiness, the more likely they will feel disappointed,” suggest the authors of the study.

Perhaps the lesson is to not make something as broadly defined as “happiness” your goal. Instead, focus on building and cultivating the sort of life and relationships that bring fulfillment and satisfaction to your life

It is also important to consider how you personally define happiness. Happiness is a broad term that means different things to different people. Rather than looking at happiness as an endpoint, it can be more helpful to think about what happiness really means to you and then work on small things that will help you become happier. This can make achieving these goals more manageable and less overwhelming.

.
History of Happiness

Happiness has long been recognized as a critical part of health and well-being. The “pursuit of happiness” is even given as an inalienable right in the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Our understanding of what will bring happiness, however, has shifted over time.

Psychologists have also proposed a number of different theories to explain how people experience and pursue happiness. These theories include:

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

The hierarchy of needs suggests that people are motivated to pursue increasingly complex needs. Once more basic needs are fulfilled, people are then motivated by more psychological and emotional needs.

At the peak of the hierarchy is the need for self-actualization, or the need to achieve one’s full potential. The theory also stresses the importance of peak experiences or transcendent moments in which a person feels deep understanding, happiness, and joy

Positive Psychology

The pursuit of happiness is central to the field of positive psychology. Psychologists who study positive psychology are interested in learning ways to increase positivity and helping people live happier, more satisfying lives

Rather than focusing on mental pathologies, the field instead strives to find ways to help people, communities, and societies improve positive emotions and achieve greater happiness.

7 Ways to Find Happiness
(Without Changing Your Life)

happinessHealth

Walk into any bookstore, and you’ll probably have no trouble finding a plethora of books about the ways to find happiness. However, with so many viewpoints and ideas about what can make us happy, how do we know what is right? In reality, people derive Happiness from different things, but we can all probably agree on some basics to becoming happier.

The most crucial part of finding the keys to happiness lies in remembering that we already possess the tools to unlock the door. Within our consciousness, we can tap into a place where we always feel happy, regardless of what’s happening outside of us.

We’ve been tricked from an early age into thinking that the latest TV, a bigger house, or a more beautiful car will finally make us feel happy. Or, maybe we need another relationship, a fresh start in a new city, or a nice massage to discover happiness. While these may bring us short-term joy, the only real happiness will come when you decide that you control your emotions. If you always give the power to things outside yourself to make you happy, you’ll find that happiness will escape your grasp every time the initial excitement fades.

Below, we’ll go over some basic ways to find Happiness without making drastic changes to your Life.

Amy's Photography 10: Composition Definitions Emphasis and Photo Examples

Here are seven ways to find real Happiness (without changing your Life):

“Happiness depends upon ourselves.”
Aristotle

1 – Be kind to yourself and others.

If you want to find real happiness, it starts with how you treat yourself. You can’t expect to feel happy if you eat poorly, don’t exercise, don’t get sunlight, make little time for self-care, and don’t prioritize sleep. Being kind to yourself means you’ll find it easier to show kindness to others, too. As they say, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Engage in positive self-talk and treat yourself as you would your best friend. If you wouldn’t say mean things to your friend, don’t tell them to yourself, either. Simply look at yourself in the mirror and realize that you deserve only the best, and self-deprecating language will not serve you in the long run.

Also, Happiness, when spread, makes the world a much brighter place. Small acts of kindness such as leaving sweet notes for strangers, donating money to charities, and holding the door for someone can turn a person’s day around. Studies have shown that people who perform random acts of kindness feel Happier in their daily lives, so give it a try! Making others feel good will inevitably boost your mood as well.

2 – Express gratitude for what you do have.

The Happiest people focus on everything that they do have, not what they lack. If you only put your attention on the things you still need, you will never have enough. You attract what you think about, so if you always focus on everything going wrong, you’ll only invite more of that into your Life. However, if you instead shift your attention to everything positive in your Life, more of that will come your way.

Here are just a few things most of us could put on our gratitude list:

  • Good health
  • Running water
  • Food on the table every day
  • Our homes
  • The Loved ones in our lives
  • Our livelihoods which allow us to buy what we need
  • Waking up this morning

Want to find happiness instantly? Just look around at everything you have and know that some people feel Happy with much less than you do. Wake up every morning feeling that you have it all, and you will boost your energy levels without having to change anything.

3 – Pay attention to your thoughts.

Most of us run on autopilot, never paying attention to the thoughts inside our heads. However, if we did, we’d probably find that most of those thoughts don’t serve us very well. Our monkey minds have a hard time focusing on the present moment, wanting instead to shift to the past or future. However, if our minds can never rest in the now, we will go our whole lives not knowing the Peace of diving into the still waters of real awareness.

How can we find happiness by paying attention to our thoughts? If you meditate, you will start to notice the Peace between each idea, and realize that your feelings don’t have to control you. Happiness comes from surrendering to this Peace and letting go of the need to analyze and ruminate all the time. Our minds have a lot of power, but most of us don’t tap into their true potential.

Studies have proven the many benefits of meditation, from boosting your mood to improving focus to even rewiring your brain! Meditation can bring a sense of Peace in even the busiest, most demanding lifestyles. So, if you want to find happiness without changing your circumstances, you need only to go within and improve yourself. By doing this, your outer World will inevitably shift as your frequency increases.

pop meme4 – To find real happiness, surround yourself with positive people.

Being in the company of only Debby Downers will surely bring your mood down as well. We tend to take on the energies of those around us, so if you surround yourself with positive people, your mood will begin to change too. Studies have shown that Happiness is contagious, so if you have a healthy social circle full of uplifting people, they can easily bring you out of even the worst funk!

While this tip might require some changes, you don’t have to do anything drastic. Simply look at the people you surround yourself with, and if anyone affects you negatively, try to limit your time with them. Put more effort into the friendships and relationships that genuinely add value to your Life.

5 – Plan out healthy meals for the week.

With so many sources for healthy recipes nowadays, you can whip up different dishes each week that will keep your taste buds and your body happy. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, either. Food makes us Happy because it provides us with sustenance as well as comfort. However, it can also have the opposite effect if you don’t fuel your body with the right foods.

Try to plan out your meals in advance each week so that you know exactly what you need at the store and how much you’ll spend. You will find that you feel better eating fresher foods that you prepare yourself, and you’ll save time by meal prepping.

Studies have shown that a balanced diet can lessen feelings of depression as well, so make sure to feed your body what it needs to thrive!

6 – Carve out time each day for yourself.

Even if you only have 15 minutes a day, try to plan out some time where you have the freedom to do things you enjoy. Whether that means painting, drawing, writing, singing, or just sitting alone with your thoughts, we all need a little time to unwind. Have a routine each night after you put the kids to the bed where you can express yourself and let out any pent up energy throughout the day. You can journal or meditate to release any stress or negativity, and after a while, you’ll start to notice how this helps your mindset.

7 – Realize that you have everything you need to find happiness.

This world makes us feel as though we always need something else to make us Happy. Truthfully, we have everything we need within us already. If you let outside circumstances control your moods, you will make yourself subject to the ebbs and flows of Life. However, true happiness lies in our ability to ride the waves and accept the ever-changing nature of Life. Instead of being a boat tossed around by a storm, learn to dive beneath the turbulence where the waters remain calm.

By shifting your mindset and realizing that you have the power to control your thoughts, nothing in life can touch you. Happiness doesn’t mean accumulating money, or stamps on our passports. All of these things can fade, but our consciousness lives on forever. Spend your time building up your inner strength and Peace, and you will not feel as powerless in the face of our changing World.

happinessFinal thoughts on how to find happiness without changing your Life:

In reality, happiness doesn’t have to come at the cost of our sanity, money, or time. You can find happiness right in your mind if you want to. By taking care of your health, being kind to yourself and others, expressing gratitude, watching your thoughts, and being around positive people, you can find Happiness. You can also find it by realizing you already have it, knowing that it can never really leave you.

What are Contrast Ratios, and How Do You Use Them?

16 Simple Ways to Relieve Stress

Stress and anxiety are common experiences for many people. In fact, millions of adults in the United States say they feel stress or anxiety daily.

Many people deal with stress every day. Work, family issues, health concerns, and financial obligations are parts of everyday life that commonly contribute to heightened stress levels.

What’s more, factors such as genetics, level of social support, coping style, and personality type influence a person’s vulnerability to stress, meaning that some people are more likely to become stressed than others (1Trusted Source, 2Trusted Source, 3Trusted Source).

Plus, research shows that parents, people in professions such as healthcare and social work, People of Color, and LGBTQIA+ individuals are more likely to have higher stress levels (4Trusted Source, 5Trusted Source, 6Trusted Source, 7Trusted Source).

Minimizing the chronic stress of daily life as much as possible is important for overall health. That’s because chronic stress harms health and increases your risk of health conditions such as heart disease, anxiety disorders, and depression (8Trusted Source, 9Trusted Source, 10Trusted Source).

It’s important to understand that stress isn’t the same as mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression, which require treatment from medical professionals. Although the tips below may relieve many types of stress, they may not help people with these conditions (11Trusted Source).

Here are 16 evidence-based ways to relieve stress.

1. Get more physical activity

If you’re feeling stressed, moving your body on a consistent basis may help.

A 6-week study in 185 university students found that participating in aerobic exercise 2 days per week significantly reduced overall perceived stress and perceived stress due to uncertainty. Plus, the exercise routine significantly improved self-reported depression (12Trusted Source).

Many other studies have shown that engaging in physical activity helps reduce stress levels and improve mood, while sedentary behavior may lead to increased stress, poor mood, and sleep disturbances (13Trusted Source, 14).

What’s more, regular exercise has been shown to improve symptoms of common mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression (15Trusted Source, 16Trusted Source).

If you’re currently inactive, start with gentle activities such as walking or biking. Choosing an activity that you enjoy may help increase your chances of sticking to it in the long term.

Summary

Regular exercise may help reduce stress and improve symptoms related to common mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
.

2. Follow a healthy diet

Your diet affects every aspect of your health, including your mental health.

Studies show that people who follow a diet high in ultra-processed foods and added sugar are more likely to experience higher perceived stress levels (17Trusted Source, 18Trusted Source, 19Trusted Source).

Being chronically stressed may lead you to overeat and reach for highly palatable foods, which may harm your overall health and mood.

Plus, not eating enough nutrient-dense whole foods may increase your risk of deficiencies in nutrients that are essential for regulating stress and mood, such as magnesium and B vitamins (20Trusted Source).

Minimizing your intake of highly processed foods and beverages and eating more whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, beans, fish, nuts, and seeds can help ensure that your body is properly nourished. In turn, this may improve your resilience to stress.

Summary

Following a nutrient-dense diet and limiting ultra-processed foods may provide your body with the nutrients it needs for optimal health and decrease your risk of deficiencies in nutrients that help regulate stress.

3. Minimize phone use and screen time

Smartphones, computers, and tablets are an unavoidable part of everyday life for many people.

While these devices are often necessary, using them too often may increase stress levels.

A number of studies have linked excessive smartphone use and “iPhone addiction” with increased levels of stress and mental health disorders (21Trusted Source, 22Trusted Source, 23Trusted Source, 24Trusted Source).

Spending too much time in front of screens in general is associated with lower psychological well-being and increased stress levels in both adults and kids (25Trusted Source, 26Trusted Source, 27Trusted Source).

Furthermore, screen time may negatively affect sleep, which may also lead to increased stress levels (28Trusted Source).

Summary

Minimizing screen time may help reduce stress and improve sleep in both children and adults.

4. Consider supplements

Several vitamins and minerals play an important role in your body’s stress response and mood regulation. As such, a deficiency in one or more nutrients may affect your mental health and ability to cope with stress.

Plus, some studies show that certain dietary supplements may help reduce stress and improve mood.

For example, when you’re chronically stressed, your magnesium levels may become depleted.

Since this mineral plays an important role in your body’s stress response, it’s important to make sure you’re getting enough each day. Supplementing with magnesium has been shown to improve stress in chronically stressed people (20Trusted Source, 29Trusted Source).

An 8-week study in 264 people with low magnesium found that taking 300 mg of this mineral daily helped reduce stress levels. Combining this dose of magnesium with vitamin B6 was even more effective (30Trusted Source).

Other supplements, including rhodiola, ashwagandha, B vitamins, and L-theanine, have been shown to help reduce stress as well (31Trusted Source, 32Trusted Source, 33Trusted Source, 34Trusted Source).

However, dietary supplements may not be appropriate or safe for everyone. Consult a healthcare professional if you’re interested in using supplements to help relieve stress.

Summary

Certain supplements may reduce stress levels, including magnesium, L-theanine, rhodiola, and B vitamins.
.

5. Practice self-care

Setting aside time to practice self-care may help reduce your stress levels. Practical examples include:

  • going for a walk outside
  • taking a bath
  • lighting candles
  • reading a good book
  • exercising
  • preparing a healthy meal
  • stretching before bed
  • getting a massage
  • practicing a hobby
  • using a diffuser with calming scents
  • practicing yoga

Studies show that people who engage in self-care report lower levels of stress and improved quality of life, while a lack of self-care is associated with higher risk of stress and burnout (35Trusted Source, 36Trusted Source, 37Trusted Source).

Taking time for yourself is essential in order to live a healthy life. This is especially important for people who tend to be highly stressed, including nurses, doctors, teachers, and caretakers.

Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate or complicated. It simply means tending to your well-being and happiness.

Exposure to certain scents via candles or essential oils may be especially calming. Here are a few relaxing scents:

  • lavender
  • rose
  • vetiver
  • bergamot
  • Roman chamomile
  • neroli
  • frankincense
  • sandalwood
  • ylang-ylang
  • orange or orange blossom
  • geranium

Using scents to boost your mood is called aromatherapy. Several studies suggest that aromatherapy can decrease anxiety and improve sleep (38Trusted Source, 39Trusted Source).

Summary

Self-care is an important part of managing stress. A few simple strategies you may want to try are yoga, lighting candles, taking baths, and reading a good book.
.

6. Reduce your caffeine intake

Caffeine is a chemical found in coffee, tea, chocolate, and energy drinks that stimulates your central nervous system.

Consuming too much may worsen and increase feelings of anxiety (40Trusted Source, 41Trusted Source).

Plus, overconsumption may harm your sleep. In turn, this may increase stress and anxiety symptoms (42Trusted Source).

People have different thresholds for how much caffeine they can tolerate. If you notice that caffeine makes you jittery or anxious, consider cutting back by replacing coffee or energy drinks with decaffeinated herbal tea or water.

Although many studies show that coffee is healthy in moderation, it’s recommended to keep caffeine intake under 400 mg per day, which equals 4–5 cups (0.9–1.2 L) of coffee (43Trusted Source).

Still, people who are sensitive to caffeine may experience increased anxiety and stress after consuming much less caffeine than this, so it’s important to consider your individual tolerance.

Summary

Large amounts of caffeine may increase stress and anxiety, although people’s sensitivity to caffeine varies greatly.

7. Spend time with friends and family

Social support from friends and family may help you get through stressful times and cope with stress (44Trusted Source).

A study that in 163 Latinx young adults in college associated lower levels of support from friends, family, and romantic partners with loneliness, depressive symptoms, and perceived stress (44Trusted Source).

Having a social support system is important for your overall mental health. If you’re feeling alone and don’t have friends or family to depend on, social support groups may help. Consider joining a club or sports team or volunteering for a cause that’s important to you.

Summary

Having strong social ties may help you get through stressful times and is important for overall mental well-being.
.

8. Create boundaries and learn to say no

Not all stressors are within your control, but some are. Putting too much on your plate may increase your stress load and limit the amount of time you can spend on self-care.

Taking control over your personal life may help reduce stress and protect your mental health.

One way to do this may be to say “no” more often. This is especially true if you find yourself taking on more than you can handle, because juggling many responsibilities may leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Being selective about what you take on — and saying “no” to things that will unnecessarily add to your load — can reduce your stress levels.

Plus, creating boundaries — especially with people who add to your stress levels — is a healthy way to protect your well-being. This can be as simple as asking a friend or family member not to stop by unannounced or canceling standing plans with a friend who tends to create drama.

Summary

It’s important to create healthy boundaries in your life by declining to take on more than you can handle. Saying “no” is one way to control your stressors.
.

9. Learn to avoid procrastination

Another way to take control of your stress is to stay on top of your priorities and avoid procrastinating.

Procrastination may harm your productivity and leave you scrambling to catch up. This can cause stress, which negatively affects your health and sleep quality (45, 46Trusted Source).

A study in 140 medical students in China linked procrastination to increased stress levels. The study also associated procrastination and delayed stress reactions with more negative parenting styles, including punishment and rejection (46Trusted Source).

If you find yourself procrastinating regularly, it may be helpful to get in the habit of making a to-do list organized by priority. Give yourself realistic deadlines and work your way down the list.

Work on the things that need to get done today and give yourself chunks of uninterrupted time. Switching between tasks or multitasking can be stressful in itself.

Summary

If you find yourself regularly procrastinating, staying on top of your to-do list may help ward off related stress.
.

10. Take a yoga class

Yoga has become a popular method of stress relief and exercise among all age groups.

While yoga styles differ, most share a common goal — to join your body and mind by increasing body and breath awareness.

Several studies show that yoga helps reduce stress and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Plus, it can promote psychological well-being (47Trusted Source, 48Trusted Source, 49Trusted Source).

These benefits seem to be related to its effect on your nervous system and stress response.

Yoga may help lower cortisol levels, blood pressure, and heart rate while increasing levels of gamma aminobutyric acid, a neurotransmitter that’s low in people with mood disorders (49Trusted Source, 50Trusted Source).

Summary

Yoga is widely used for stress reduction. It may help lower stress hormone levels and blood pressure.

11. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness describes practices that anchors you to the present moment.

Stress reduction techniques that utilize mindfulness include meditation and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), a type of cognitive behavioral therapy (51Trusted Source).

Meditating on a consistent basis, even for short periods, may help boost your mood and decrease symptoms of stress and anxiety (52Trusted Source).

If you’d like to try out meditation, countless books, apps, and websites can teach you the basics. There may also be therapists in your area who specialize in MBCT.

Summary

Mindfulness practices such as meditation and MBCT may help reduce stress levels and improve mood.
.

12. Cuddle

Human touch may have a calming effect and help you better cope with stress (53Trusted Source).

For example, studies show that positive physical contact and sex may help relieve stress and loneliness (54Trusted Source, 55Trusted Source).

These types of contact may help release oxytocin and lower cortisol. In turn, these effects help lower blood pressure and heart rate. Both high blood pressure and increased heart rate are physical symptoms of stress (56Trusted Source).

Interestingly, Humans aren’t the only animals that cuddle for stress relief. Chimpanzees also cuddle friends that are stressed (57).

Summary

Positive touch from cuddling, hugging, kissing, and sex may help lower stress by releasing oxytocin and lowering blood pressure.
.

13. Spend time in Nature

Spending more time outside may help reduce stress.

Studies show that spending time in green spaces such as parks and forests and being immersed in nature are healthy ways to manage stress (58Trusted Source, 59Trusted Source).

A review of 14 studies found that spending as little as 10 minutes in a natural setting may help improve psychological and physiological markers of mental well-being, including perceived stress and happiness, in college-aged people (59Trusted Source).

Hiking and camping are great options, but some people don’t enjoy — or have access to — these activities. Even if you live in an urban area, you can seek out green spaces such as local parks, arboretums, and botanical gardens.

Summary

Spending more time outside — whether at your local park or atop a mountain — may help reduce levels of stress and boost your mood.
.

14. Practice deep breathing

Mental stress activates your sympathetic nervous system, sending your body into fight-or-flight mode.

During this reaction, stress hormones trigger physical symptoms such as a faster heartbeat, quicker breathing, and constricted blood vessels.

Deep breathing exercises may help activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which controls the relaxation response (60Trusted Source, 61Trusted Source).

Deep breathing exercises include diaphragmatic breathing, abdominal breathing, belly breathing, and paced respiration.

The goal of deep breathing is to focus your awareness on your breath, making it slower and deeper. When you breathe in deeply through your nose, your lungs fully expand and your belly rises. This helps slow your heart rate, allowing you to feel at peace.

Summary

Deep breathing activates your body’s relaxation response, thereby counteracting some of the physical sensations of stress.
.

15. Spend time with your pet

Having a pet may help reduce stress and improve your mood.

When you cuddle or touch your pet, your body releases oxytocin — a hormone that’s linked to positive mood (62Trusted Source).

Plus, studies show that pet owners — especially those who have dogs — tend to have greater life satisfaction, better self-esteem, reduced levels of loneliness and anxiety, and more positive moods (63Trusted Source).

Having a pet may also help relieve stress by giving you purpose, keeping you active, and providing companionship.

Summary

Spending time with your pet is a relaxing, enjoyable way to reduce stress.
.

The bottom line

Although stress is an unavoidable part of life, being chronically stressed takes a toll on your physical and mental health.

Fortunately, several evidence-based strategies can help you reduce stress and improve your overall psychological well-being.

Exercise, mindfulness, spending time with a pet, minimizing screen time, and getting outside more often are all effective methods.

Just one thing

Try this today: Although there are many ways to reduce stress on your own, it’s important to get help when you need it.

If you’re experiencing overwhelming stress or symptoms of anxiety and depression, consider making an appointment with a therapist or visiting a trusted healthcare professional to discuss ways to improve your mental health.

Happiness is a Choice!

As Aristotle said, Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of Life, the whole aim . . . of Human existence.” One of the greatest achievements we can attain in Life is leaving this World a better place than we found it. So, how can we make that a real accomplishment, and not just a Hope?

For one, we may need to re-think some of our attitudes about the sources of Happiness. Taking a fresh look at what we believe, can open up a world of possibilities.  Ultimately, Happiness boils down to small course corrections made daily.  They will help us to become happier people.

There are many people who are knowledgeable and highly educated, yet who are quite unhappy in their lives. They know intellectually the steps to happiness, but knowledge without application is really just education. We can learn all the things that contribute to true, lasting happiness, like gratitude, forgiveness, Love, and being of service, but if we don’t apply them in our life on a daily basis, not much will change.

The good news is, we have quite a bit of control over whether we are happy or not. Although much of our natural disposition for happiness is based upon our genetic makeup, and therefore varies from person to person, it is merely an inherited tendency, not our destiny. Our destiny is, and always will be, what we work toward, what we accomplish in our lives.

Happiness expert Sonja Lyubomirsky, a professor of psychology at the University of California-Riverside, compared the genetically determined happiness “set point” to our inherited tendency to stay thin or to put on weight. She wrote “All the set point means is that in the same way some people have to work on maintaining their weight, [a person] may have to work to achieve the same level of happiness as someone else. It may be harder, but it can be done.”  So if we’re not as happy as we’d like to be – we can actually do something about it.

What Is Happiness, Anyway?

What does being happy feel like, and do we recognize happiness when we are experiencing it? Feeling happy can be defined as a sustainable sense of Spiritual contentment that arises from deep within. It is a condition of the Heart. It is not giddiness, silliness, or ecstasy. What many people don’t realize, though, is that Happiness is the result of many decisions made (whether consciously or unconsciously), to be Happy.

There are many people who prefer to blame their unhappiness upon their circumstances, but if our Happiness were dependent upon our circumstances, then most people would rarely be Happy, because no one has a pain-free Life. We all experience many challenges, hardships, adversity, and disappointments. It’s a part of our human existence.

Dr. Viktor Frankl, the bestselling author of Man’s Search for Meaning and a renowned Austrian psychiatrist, survived the holocaust in Germany. While watching his fellow inmates in a Nazi concentration camp, he observed that all things could be taken from a man except the final freedom: the ability to choose how he will respond to any situation.  He wrote that “between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”  And I would add our Happiness.

Is Happiness Worth the Effort?

Is happiness truly worth the effort? Absolutely! There are many reasons why Life is more fulfilling when we’re Happy. Our Happiness, or lack thereof, influences our daily interactions and all of our relationships with others. If we’re Happy, we are much more likely to positively impact our spouse, our children, our neighbors, friends, our co-workers, and our community. The world is a better place when the Happiest version of each one of us is walking around.

Here are some additional reasons why the effort to become Happier is worth it:

1) Happiness is success:  Albert Schweitzer said that “Success is not the key to Happiness.
Happiness is the key to success.”

2) Happiness is healthy: Our physical health is directly impacted by our emotional and mental state. Happier people tend to be healthier in every aspect of life.

3) Happiness is being connected: If I smile, make a polite gesture, or say something welcoming, the majority of people will respond in kind.

4) Happiness is attractive: People are drawn to those who radiate Happiness, warmth, and positivity.

Our Happiness depends on the way we live our lives and how we view the world.  We each create the lens through which we view the world.

What About Stress and Happiness?

How often do you run into somebody, ask how they are, and hear the answer,

“Oh, I’m all stressed out!”

That has become so commonplace in our society, it’s almost synonymous with “good morning.” Imagine instead the following conversation:

“How are you today?”

“I’m doing great! I have zero stress in my Life!”

It sounds funny! In fact, many people wear their stress and busyness as if it were a badge of honor. Being over committed gives some people a false sense of value, almost like an unspoken “I’m busier than you, so I must be more important than you.” But that road can become filled with loneliness and regret farther down, as we realize that we’ve been spinning on our hamster wheel so long, that we’ve lost touch with the people and practices in our Lives that truly matter most.

Sometimes we’re so busy, we even deprive ourselves of the most fundamental things: sleep and healthy food. Can you imagine having the following conversation with a child?

“You need to stay on the computer until 2:00 a.m. to keep checking your email and read the news!

“But Mom/Dad, I’m tired, I want to go to sleep!”

“NO! Go back to the computer and check to see if you have any new emails!”

Similarly, if a client is putting harmful substances in their body, I ask them if they would give it to their child, and the thought of doing so is shocking to them. But why is it so easy for us to say no to our kids (when it’s in their best interest), but not take care of ourselves? I believe it’s because we lack adequate self-parenting. Mismanagement of time and stress becomes a long-term neglect of our needs; it can make us physically sick or lead to emotional and mental breakdowns.

Take Time Out to Contemplate:

So, how do we change our mindset from dealing with crises all the time to taking charge of our lives? We literally need to stop, ponder and meditate on the direction of our work, our relationships, and every other aspect of our lives. It’s a key ingredient to successfully managing our overall stress levels. I’ve had quite a few clients who are business executives that way too many hours. They don’t take time for themselves, and they become so overwhelmed, that their lifestyle is more reactive crisis management than crisis prevention. When doing executive coaching, I frequently have to ask,

“When was the last time you actually took a day or two off to contemplate, to think about the direction of your life? When did you last take time to do something others might think of as nonproductive, when you didn’t make appointments, go to meetings, close any deals, answer any phone calls, or return any emails? When, instead, you sat, pondered, and meditated about the direction of your life, the direction of your company, and/or the direction of your family?”

The typical push back is, “I can’t afford to take a day off!”

And my immediate response is, “You can’t afford NOT to take a day off!”

It is the same for the rest of us. To effectively manage our stress, we need to take time to ponder the direction our lives are taking. The result might be that you’ll make a necessary course correction. This may not only add quality (and quantity) years to your life, but it will also add balance and perspective. As a result, you’ll be a better spouse, employee, parent, friend and, ultimately, a better person. Your most vital relationships will receive the benefit of the best you, including your relationship with yourself.

The difference between who you are and who you want to be, is what you do!  If happiness is what you seek, then reading, pondering, and applying, the 7 Paths to Lasting Happiness is a great way to begin!

Heart Health and Aging

How Does the Heart Work?

Anatomy of heart showing atria, ventricles, valves, vessels, and blood flowYour Heart is a strong muscle that pumps blood to your body. A normal, healthy adult heart is about the size of your clenched fist. Just like an engine makes a car go, the Heart keeps your body running. The Heart has two sides, each with a top chamber (atrium) and a bottom chamber (ventricle). The right side pumps blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen. The left side receives blood rich with oxygen from the lungs and pumps it through arteries throughout the body. An electrical system in the heart controls the heart rate (heartbeat or pulse) and coordinates the contraction of the heart’s top and bottom chambers.

How Your Heart Changes with Age

People age 65 and older are much more likely than younger people to suffer a heart attack, to have a stroke, or to develop coronary heart disease (commonly called heart disease) and heart failure. Heart disease is also a major cause of disability, limiting the activity and eroding the quality of life of millions of older people.

Aging can cause changes in the heart and blood vessels. For example, as you get older, your heart can’t beat as fast during physical activity or times of stress as it did when you were younger. However, the number of heartbeats per minute (heart rate) at rest does not change significantly with normal aging.

Changes that happen with age may increase a person’s risk of Heart disease. A major cause of heart disease is the buildup of fatty deposits in the walls of arteries over many years. The good news is there are things you can do to delay, lower, or possibly avoid or reverse your risk.

The most common aging change is increased stiffness of the large arteries, called arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. This causes high blood pressure, or hypertension, which becomes more common as we age.

High blood pressure and other risk factors, including advancing age, increase the risk of developing atherosclerosis. Because there are several modifiable risk factors for atherosclerosis, it is not necessarily a normal part of aging. Plaque builds up inside the walls of your arteries and, over time, hardens and narrows your arteries, which limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your organs and other parts of your body. Oxygen and blood nutrients are supplied to the heart muscle through the coronary arteries. Heart disease develops when plaque builds up in the coronary arteries, reducing blood flow to your heart muscle. Over time, the heart muscle can become weakened and/or damaged, resulting in heart failure. Heart damage can be caused by heart attacks, long-standing hypertension and diabetes, and chronic heavy alcohol use.

Age can cause other changes to the Heart. For example:

  • There are age-related changes in the electrical system that can lead to arrhythmias — a rapid, slowed, or irregular heartbeat — and/or the need for a pacemaker. Valves — the one-way, door-like parts that open and close to control blood flow between the chambers of your heart — may become thicker and stiffer. Stiffer valves can limit the flow of blood out of the heart and become leaky, both of which can cause fluid to build up in the lungs or in the body (legs, feet, and abdomen).
  • The chambers of your heart may increase in size. The heart wall thickens, so the amount of blood that a chamber can hold may decrease despite the increased overall heart size. The heart may fill more slowly. Long-standing hypertension is the main cause of increased thickness of the heart wall, which can increase the risk of atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm problem in older people.
  • With increasing age, people become more sensitive to salt, which may cause an increase in blood pressure and/or ankle or foot swelling (edema).

Other factors, such as thyroid disease or chemotherapy, may also weaken the heart muscle. Things you can’t control, like your family history, might increase your risk of heart disease. But, leading a heart-healthy lifestyle might help you avoid or delay serious illness.

What Is Heart Disease?

Heart disease is caused by atherosclerosis, which is the buildup of fatty deposits, or plaques, in the walls of the coronary arteries over many years. The coronary arteries surround the outside of the heart and supply blood nutrients and oxygen to the heart muscle. When plaque builds up inside the arteries, there is less space for blood to flow normally and deliver oxygen to the heart. If the flow of blood to your heart is reduced by plaque buildup or is blocked if a plaque suddenly ruptures, it can cause angina (chest pain or discomfort) or a heart attack. When the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen and blood nutrients, the heart muscle cells will die (heart attack) and weaken the heart, diminishing its ability to pump blood to the rest of the body.

Find out more about heart attacks.

Signs of Heart Disease

Early heart disease often doesn’t have symptoms or the symptoms may be barely noticeable. That’s why regular checkups with your doctor are important.

Contact your doctor right away if you feel any chest pain, pressure, or discomfort. However, chest pain is a less common sign of heart disease as it progresses, so be aware of other symptoms. Tell your doctor if you have:

  • Pain, numbness, and/or tingling in the shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, or back
  • Shortness of breath when active, at rest, or while lying flat
  • Chest pain during physical activity that gets better when you rest
  • Lightheadedness
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Headaches
  • Cold sweats
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Swelling in the ankles, feet, legs, stomach, and/or neck
  • Reduced ability to exercise or be physically active
  • Problems doing your normal activities

Problems with arrhythmia are much more common in older adults than younger people. Arrhythmia needs to be treated. See a doctor if you feel a fluttering in your chest or have the feeling that your heart is skipping a beat or beating too hard, especially if you are weaker than usual, dizzy, tired, or get short of breath when active.

If you have any signs of heart disease, your doctor may send you to a cardiologist, a doctor who specializes in the heart.

To learn more about heart disease, visit the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

What Can I Do to Prevent Heart Disease?

There are many steps you can take to keep your heart healthy.

Try to be more physically active. Talk with your doctor about the type of activities that would be best for you. If possible, aim to get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week. Every day is best. It doesn’t have to be done all at once.

Two older women walking in a park for exerciseStart by doing activities you enjoy — brisk walking, dancing, bowling, bicycling, or gardening, for example. Avoid spending hours every day sitting.

If you smoke, quit. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death. Smoking adds to the damage to artery walls. It’s never too late to get some benefit from quitting smoking. Quitting, even in later life, can lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer over time.

Follow a heart-healthy diet. Choose foods that are low in trans and saturated fats, added sugars, and salt. As we get older, we become more sensitive to salt, which can cause swelling in the legs and feet. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and foods high in fiber, like those made from whole grains. Get more information on healthy eating from NIA. You also can find information on the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Patterns.

Keep a healthy weight. Balancing the calories you eat and drink with the calories burned by being physically active helps to maintain a healthy weight. Some ways you can maintain a healthy weight include limiting portion size and being physically active. Learn more about how to maintain a healthy weight from NIA.

Keep your diabetes, high blood pressure, and/or high cholesterol under control. Follow your doctor’s advice to manage these conditions, and take medications as directed.

Don’t drink a lot of alcohol. Men should not have more than two drinks a day and women only one. One drink is equal to:

  • One 12-ounce can or bottle of regular beer, ale, or wine cooler
  • One 8- or 9-ounce can or bottle of malt liquor
  • One 5-ounce glass of red or white wine
  • One 1.5-ounce shot glass of distilled spirits like gin, rum, tequila, vodka, or whiskey

Manage stress. Learn how to manage stress, relax, and cope with problems to improve physical and emotional health. Consider activities such as a stress management program, meditation, physical activity, and talking things out with friends or family. To learn more about stress management techniques, visit the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

To learn more about making heart-healthy lifestyle changes, visit the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

The Future of Research on Aging and the Heart

Adults age 65 and older are more likely than younger people to suffer from cardiovascular disease, which is problems with the heart, blood vessels, or both. Aging can cause changes in the heart and blood vessels that may increase a person’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

To understand how aging is linked to cardiovascular disease so that we can ultimately develop cures for this group of diseases, we need to first understand what is happening in the healthy but aging heart and blood vessels. This understanding has advanced dramatically in the past 30 years.

Learn more about The Heart Truth®, a national heart disease awareness campaign for women from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

Today, more than ever, scientists understand what causes your blood vessels and heart to age and how your aging cardiovascular system leads to cardiovascular disease. In addition, they have pinpointed risk factors that increase the odds a person will develop cardiovascular disease. They are learning much more about how physical activity, diet, and other lifestyle factors influence the “rate of aging” in the healthy heart and arteries. The aging of other organ systems, including the muscles, kidneys, and lungs, also likely contributes to heart disease. Research is ongoing to unravel how these aging systems influence each other, which may reveal new targets for treatments.

In the future, interventions or treatments that slow accelerated aging of the heart and arteries in young and middle-aged people who seem to be healthy could prevent or delay the onset of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular disorders in later life. Some interventions that we already know slow the rate of aging in the heart and arteries include healthy eating, exercise, reducing stress, and quitting smoking. The more we understand the changes that take place in cells and molecules during aging, for example, the closer we get to the possibility of designing drugs that target those changes. Gene therapies can also target specific cellular changes and could potentially be a way to intervene in the aging process. While waiting for these new therapies to be developed, you can still enjoy activities, like exercise and a healthy diet, that can benefit your heart.

Ultimate Reality / In Which Countries are all New Cars to be Electric? / ATEX Trash Service / Friday: F.W. Nature Center

Love is the most Beautiful thing on Earth, and the only thing in Heaven Above.

When I consider all the Lovely Things
God has created,
among them are the Treasures
of our emotions
and
our feelings.

And we can do no better
than letting the passion,
and compassion,
of our Mortal Being
drift into our
Souls.

The Love
we feel for one another,
is the same Love
God
feels for us.
.
“The Love of God
is greater far

than tongue or pen
can ever tell.”
Frederick Lehman

As we
permit the Love of God
to flow
through us,
and out into the Hearts
of others,
we come to know
and to understand,
the Ultimate Reality
that pervades
everything.

               Pervades everything.

The most profound
Truths
are the least
describable,
for there is almost
nothing
to compare them to.

The clearly finite mind
of Man
is limited.
It simply cannot visualize
the Infinite.

“To know that what is
impenetrable to us
really exists,
manifesting itself as the Highest Wisdom
and the most radiant Beauty
which our dull faculties can comprehend
only in their most primitive forms
– this knowledge, this feeling,
is at the center of all
True Religiousness.

Albert Einstein

The colors of God’s Love are everywhere.

If you stand
on ground you’ve never felt before,
to say things
held deep in your Heart,
subtle secrets of unfathomable Beauty,
that you have not told,
will reveal themselves
at will.

                    Everything.

The colors of Love,
in shades from
Above,
you may think
will never last.
But if
they never did,
would you and I
be here
to think about
anything at all?

What would you say
to someone you Loved
more deeply
than Life itself?
.
Death,
My Friend,
cannot come to be
more known to
you and me,
than to never know
Love
at all.

We are in an Ocean
of waters deep,
when Love
is just out of reach.

My Dear Friends,
we are made for each other
and not for solitude,
which can only engender
despair,
and no delight.

To never
know that Love
is what Life
is really all about,
leaves us swirling,
between waves
in distance growing farther and farther
apart,
drifting, afloat and
wondering,
if we will drown,
before Life can even
start.

“Beloved,
let us Love one another,
for Love is from God,
and whoever Loves
has been born of God
and knows God. “

1 John 3:16

You
and the one
you hold deep in your Heart,
compromise whatever is pure,
ever True.
For as you
Love another,
God Loves You.
Knowing
in this moment
you are Loved,
will last
far past
forever and ever.
.
“Love
  never dies.”
1 Corinthians 13:8

              In shades from Above.

And so,
what do I do?

Just
reach out,

with a Heart blistered still,
from working far too hard
with words
shaped into shields,
and looks surreal,
doubting,
adrift,
and drowning
in the vast sea
of never fully knowing,
the Love of God
flows
like a Raging River
through me
and through you.
.
“I was wondering
why Life is so hard.
Being a Human,
it’s really hard.
For our whole Life,
from the day you are born
until the last breath.
Sometimes I wish I was a Tree,
a cloud,
or maybe rain,
but not Human.
Mr Lennonson
.
Love
is much like
the colors of a
Rainbow,
displaying
some shades of Light
NEVER
to be viewed,
never that can engender
a power or a delight
of the Human Heart,
until
you truly see the
Light.

“Life
is Spirit

pervading matter.”
Aristotle

Until you truly see the Light.

Our awareness
of the vast Unknown
is no greater by far
than distance
can be measured,
or Love
understood,
when measured
by the minute,
or the hour
or our Time
on this Earth.

Goodnight.

“A good Love
is one that casts you into the wind,
sets you ablaze,
makes you burn through the skies
and ignite the night like a phoenix;
the kind that cuts you loose like a wildfire
and you can’t stop running
simply because you keep on burning
everything that you touch!”

But within the next two decades, they may be the only new cars available for sale in certain countries.

Multiple countries have announced plans to end the sale of new internal-combustion cars as a way to cut carbon emissions.

DON’T MISS: Norway’s Goal: All New Cars Will Be Emission-Free By 2025 To Cut Carbon

So which one will be the first?

Norway is likely the friendliest nation in the world for electric cars, and it was the first to discuss making all new cars electrically powered (whether via batteries or hydrogen fuel cells).

The Scandinavian country already offers generous incentives to electric-car buyers, and has built up substantial charging infrastructure.

Electric cars already account for an average 24 percent of new-car sales in Norway, but certain politicians are pushing for them to make up 100 percent of new-car sales by 2025.

This goal was first proposed last August by Ola Elvestuen, a member of Norway’s parliament and Chair of the Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment.

Norway’s major political parties have now agreed to this “complete ban” on new internal-combustion cars, The Independent reported earlier this month.

MORE: India’s ambitious goal: all electric vehicles on roads by 2030

The Netherlands is also moving to end sales of new gasoline and diesel cars by 2025.

In April, the Dutch parliament passed a motion to that effect, although it would still have to be approved by the senate to become law.

Hybrids would still be allowed under the proposed rule, and internal-combustion cars sold before 2025 would be grandfathered for operation until the ends of their lives.

Like Norway, The Netherlands boasts significant electric-car incentives, and electric cars account for a greater share of sales than in most countries.

Both Norway and The Netherlands also have concentrated populations, meaning short average commuting distances that won’t tax shorter-range electric cars.

That’s less true of Germany, where electric cars currently account for a relatively low percentage of sales.

Yet Deputy Economy Minister Rainer Baake believes the country should ban sales of new gasoline and diesel cars by 2030.

Baake believes an emission-free car fleet is the only way to meet Germany’s goal of cutting carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050, according to Bloomberg.

The government also wants to put 1 million electric cars on German roads by 2020.

Right now, electric cars only account for about 0.6 percent of new-vehicle sales in Germany, although an incentives program approved by lawmakers in May could help boost sales.

The country with the most ambitious electric-car goal, though, may be India.

Rather than simply ending sales of new internal-combustion cars, India’s government wants to make all cars in the country electric by 2030.

This would hinge on an incentive program that would allow people to buy electric cars very cheaply.

However, the proposal faces the challenge of instigating mass electric-car adoption in one of the world’s most populous nations, and creating the necessary infrastructure to support all of those new cars.

Many Indian homes do not have access to electricity at all, and the country currently relies heavily on fossil fuels to generate power.

But with some of the worst air pollution in the world, India may have the greatest incentive of any country to make all of the cars on its roads electric.

The Fingerprints of God / Food Sources of Insanity / Friday: Museum of the Americas

Dedicated with my Love, tears and Prayers
to the treasured memory of Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Gaul
December 13, 1926 – January 28, 2016,
pictured below with her precious daughter
Judy Weis.

My Love for you is Eternal,
My tears ever flowing,
And my Prayers are of
Thanksgiving.

Thank you Lord,
for such a beautiful
and Loving
Friend.
She has been a treasured Blessing
in my Life
and so very many others.

betty

Betty became a Light in the Heart of everyone, a beautiful Flower in the Garden of God’s Grace.

“We shall not cease from exploration
and the end of all our exploring
will be to arrive where we started
and to know the place
for the first time.”

– T.S. Eliot

You are given beautiful gifts from God.

We think
We pick Flowers,
The Flowers we gather
For someone we Love.

But no.
As real as our strange world
May appear to be,
We model the world we experience
In our mind.
OrbisonIllusionWhich has led some to think
That existence, as we know it,
May be an illusion,
And our reality
Isn’t really real.

This results from scientific investigations
Telling us
That everything we know
Is merely a construction
In our minds,
What we humans perceive
As reality in the world
Around us,
May be no more than
An illusion of thought.

It has far reaching
Implications.

But these implications
Are far more reaching
Than we are capable
Of ever understanding.

Ontology is the philosophical study
Of the nature of being,
Becoming, existence, or reality.
It was called “first philosophy” by Aristotle
in Book IV of his Metaphysics.

My Precious Friends,
As we explore
The nature of being,
Let us choose JOY today,
By not leaning only upon
Our own understanding,
But by having childlike trust
In our Loving Creator’s omniscience.

Allow Him to direct your path,
Which will lead to ultimate joy,
And make your journey,
Even when laden with sorrow,
Joyful.

“As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing;
as poor, yet making many rich;
as having nothing,
and yet possessing all things.”

(2 Corinthians 6:10).

We are, after all,
Children
Of God.

intertwining-illusion

Existence, as we know it, may be an illusion.

“One could sum up mind
as a universal aspect of Life and energy,
an aspect with a relationship to the body
mystically similar to the wave’s
relationship to the particle.
And according to modern religious sources,
mind also has a resonance relation
to brain cells,
which vibrate in response to
Spiritual Energy
under laws far beyond
the scope of science.”
– Guy Murchie

Let us explore,
In a philosophical perspective,
One very beautiful aspect
Of our Life.

My Friends,
The Flowers of the field
Pick us,
As surely
As someone,
Yet unknown,
Will choose you
To Love.

Just as we take meaning
To
The symbols of communication,
And not from them,
We impose our reality
Upon what we think
Is in the world around us.

Everything we know, imagine,
Perceive as color, sensation, sound,
Our very thoughts and feelings,
Make a first appearance
In our mind.

Flowers seemingly move
From a place on
This Earth.

And with your outstretched arms
And Lovingly Guided Hands,
They follow the pathway
Back,
Back to the Love
That breathed Life
Into their fragile being,
To the home
That first was their own,
To a place
In your mind,
To the Heart of their Creator,
The Heart of God,

     Flowers seemingly move.

They are,
My Friends,
Always there,
Waiting,
Quietly
Blowing in the wind
Of a longing
And lonely mind.

For we are searching,
Ever searching,
To find the courage
To move them
From the field
Of possibilities,
From never,
To Love
Forever.

fields

Move them from the field of possibilities, from never, to Love Forever.

The Majesty
Of God’s Love
Conveyed
Throughout His Universe,
Is beautifully displayed.

His Fingerprints
Are on every petal
Of every Flower,
In every field
Of every dream.

And my Soul sings
To think
They were planted
Just for you,
And me.

“There the flowers will be blooming
And the grass will be green
And the skies will be clear and serene,
Where the sun ever beams
In this valley of dreams
And no cloud will be seen.
There will be peace

in the valley
For me some day.”
– Thomas A. Dorsey

My Dear Friends,
If what is real
Is within,
And we now know
That to be,
Then our mind and our Heart
Are the only domains,
And nothing,
No, nothing else
matters,
As you will come
To see.

His Fingerprints are on every petal.

When seen through the eyes
Of those who are blessed with love.”

What we receive
Is what we bring,
And in every moment
Of Prayerful quiet,
God is listening.

“Once I have known
the mind of God,

the rest are all
details”.

– Albert Einstein

The time will come
When what we know
Is what we
Have always known:
A clear, clarion call
To see the past,
Through our forgiveness,
Never existed
At all.

Yesterday
Is no pathway
To transcend
Sorrow.
Only today
Births tomorrow.

What is past
Is not the road
Down which we travel
To a summer place,
Where people share
Hopes and dreams,
Where Love births
The courage
To care
For the morrow.

“Come, Lord, and tarry not; bonar
Bring the long looked for day;
O why these years of waiting here,
These ages of decay?”
– Horatius Bonar
Hymns of Faith and Hope

The palette of our Resplendent Spirit,
Through fervent Prayer,
Will beautifully blossom
Transcendent colors aware,
As heights we ascend,
And return our fragile being
To the soaring breadth
And sumptuous depths
Of such Splendor
As has no beginning,
And no end.

flowers 2

They were planted just for you and me.

“As the sun,
ere he has risen,
sometimes paints his image
in the firmament,
e’en so the shadows
of events
precede the events,
and in today
already walks tomorrow.”
– William Shakespeare

God
Always resides
In your precious Heart,
In your Life
And in the fertile fields
Of the beautiful flowers
Found in your Dreams.

May God Bless you
And keep you
In His Dreams.

Goodnight.

Americans are eating themselves INSANE.
Causes of mental insanity identified in factory foods
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
A leading consumer health advocate and health freedom activist.

Sources of mental insanity are now identified in factory foods. Mankind is concentrating brain-damaging heavy metals through foods, soils, contaminated water supplies and industrial pollution. People who are buying and consuming factory processed foods are eating themselves into insanity.

The real reason society is so incredibly insane at every level is rooted in the consumption of toxic heavy metals through food, water and other environmental sources. It’s exacerbated by the poisonous heavy metals being fed to factory farmed chickens (and other animals) whose poop is harvested and spread on soils that are used to grow foods for humans.

My Dear Friends, please select ORGANIC foods. Our food chain is now polluted. Yes, you are crazy to buy anything else. Or you may become so.

What Are the Best Fish to Eat?

Among the safest in terms of contamination, and the highest in healthy omega-3 fat, is wild-caught Alaskan and sockeye salmon. Neither is allowed to be farmed, and are therefore always wild-caught. The risk of sockeye accumulating high amounts of mercury and other toxins is reduced because of its short life cycle, which is only about three years.

Additionally, bioaccumulation of toxins is also reduced by the fact that it doesn’t feed on other, already contaminated, fish. The two designations you want to look for on the label are: “Alaskan salmon” (or wild Alaskan salmon) and “Sockeye salmon.”  read more

Happiness linked to longer life
by Amanda MacMillan, Health.com

Being happy doesn’t just improve the quality of your life. According to a new study, it may increase the quantity of your life as well.

Older people were up to 35% less likely to die during the five-year study if they reported feeling happy, excited, and content on a typical day. And this was true even though the researchers took factors such as chronic health problems, depression, and financial security out of the equation. read more

We can see with our eyes.
But close your eyes,
And look into the real light of this life,
Into the Light of your heart,
Into that which transcends
What has been illumined,
Into what will be.

Close your eyes.
Listen to the song
Long laid to rest,
Seldom sung,
But as a child.
The one you heard –
So long ago,
The one you were –
And, so long to hear again.

It is the song of your heart,
Beating in time
With all that has gone before,
With all it longed to be.

You shall never see
As clearly as today.
The lens of your heart
Can focus your mind
Upon the things in life
That truly have meaning,
That matter.

The essence of your existence,

Within the Love you feel
For someone else.

Within the few and precious moments
You share with another,
Lies a Gift greater
Than any treasure on this earth,
A Gift only you can give,
A Gift so alive with Love,
That it will live forever –
The Gift of knowing, surely knowing,
That someone is alive in your heart,
And will live there
Forever.

Such Love never dies.
Such Love has always lived,
Placed in your heart
By the precious Love of God,
This Love comes through you,
Not from you.

It is the only Gift
Worthy of bestowing,
Worthy of receipt.

6 common household items that cause cancer
from: naturalnews.com

Air fresheners –  A hotbed of poisonous substances that could leave you and your loved ones infertile, brain-damaged or chronically ill. Tests conducted by the Natural Resources Defense Council found that most air fresheners contain phthalates, which among other things interfere with male hormone production.

Most air fresheners are also loaded with other cancer-causing volatile organic compounds as well, which interfere with reproduction, respiration and cellular regeneration. A 2008 study conducted by Anne Steinemann at the University of Washington found that all air fresheners tested emitted chemicals known to be carcinogenic, meaning they cause cancer.

Instead of toxic commercial air fresheners, stick with all-natural essential oils, which can be applied to the skin or released into the air from a diffuser. read more

Candles  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found that nearly half of all scented candles on the market contain lead wiring in their wicks, which is released into the air upon burning. This lead leads to hormone disruption, behavioral disorders and other health problems.

Director George Rodriguez interviews students for roles in our coming Shakespeare production.

Director George Rodriguez interviews Jack for a role in our upcoming Shakespeare production.

Many candles are also made of paraffin wax which, when burned, generates two highly toxic compounds, benzene and toluene, both of which are carcinogenic. Artificial fragrances and dyes are also present in many scented candles, which when burned end up in your lungs.

Art supplies –  Epoxy materials, glues, acrylic paints and solvents, drawing utensils and other supplies used to create art contain chemicals linked to allergies, organ damage and cancer.

The federal Labeling Hazardous Art Materials Act requires that all art supplies sold in the U.S. bear warnings. It is recommended that users of such supplies purchase only products that are certified by the Art and Creative Materials Institute (ACMI). ACMI-certified products undergo rigorous evaluations by independent toxicologists to make sure that they are safe for everyone, including small children.

Shampoos & Conditioners – Toxins are in cosmetics containing ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate that generate cancer-causing byproducts when used. Other carcinogenic additives commonly used in hair care products include polyethylene glycol (PEG) and cocamide DEA.

Safe Cosmetics has put together a list of the safest and most eco-friendly shampoos on the market, which are free of most or all of the chemicals listed in its “Skin Deep” database, which you can access here: SafeCosmetics.org.

Antiperspirant Deodorants –  Avoid aluminum chlorohydrate, which can absorb directly into the skin and promote the formation of breast cancer. Aluminum from antiperspirants is also believed to contribute to brain diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Other toxic additives in deodorants include parabens, artificial preservatives that mimic estrogen in the body and promotes the growth of cancer cells. Parabens are also linked to gastrointestinal damage, nausea and central nervous system depression.

Shower curtains – Plastic shower curtains act something like a radiator for toxic chemical release. Many shower curtains off-gas harmful chemicals known as volatile organic compounds that are known to damage the respiratory tract, central nervous system, liver and kidneys.

Mary Alice

Augustus Caesar keeps a watchful eye over Mary Alice (she earlier beheaded him!)

If your shower curtain has that unique “new shower curtain smell,” it is releasing deadly chemicals — potentially upwards of 108 different VOCs, that are harming you. It is important to buy only non-toxic, PVC-free shower curtains made without harmful chemicals.

Some of the best options include shower curtains made from hemp, linen, birch, organic cotton or PEVA, which you can learn more about here:

This change that will be passed down through the generations. It also asks questions about the future. Some people argue we are now on a slippery slope to further genetic modification of children.

A further vote is required in the House of Lords. It everything goes ahead then the first such baby could be born next year. Critics say they will continue to fight against the technique that raises too many ethical and safety concerns.
