Five Tips to Stay Healthy as You Age
bostonmagazine.com

Times have changed. Aging is different now than it was for our parents and grandparents. Today, there are more people living longer and healthier than at any other time in history.

“Aging is NOT an inevitable decline and deterioration,” says Lewis Lipsitz, MD, Chief of the Division of Gerontology at BIDMC. “In fact, with appropriate geriatric care, attentive to the medical, psychological, social, and personal challenges that everyone faces as they grow older, most people can enjoy an advanced age with good health and independent function.”

So, how do we keep that momentum going? Check out these five tips for healthy aging from the Senior Health Clinic at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

1. Kick the bad habits and stick with the good ones

This may seem like common sense, but the healthier choices we make, the healthier we’re likely to be.

Quit smoking. Did you know that ingredients found in nail polish remover, hair dye, rat poison and lighter fluid are found in cigarettes? And that’s just a short list — there’s more! If you smoke — quit. Your physician can point you toward online or community resources that can help.

Pile on the salads and fruit. As you get older, digestion and metabolism slow down. Make sure to get enough fiber — found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains — in your diet. If you need help with grocery shopping or cooking nutritious meals, talk to a family member or your doctor. Many communities also have programs that provide healthy meals to seniors.

Drink lots of water. You’ve heard this before — staying hydrated is very important. Dehydration can cause headaches and dizziness, among other things. Try setting a timer to remind yourself to grab a glass of water.

Get plenty of Zzzs. As tempting as it is to watch TV right up until bedtime, it might disrupt your sleep. Many older adults do not get enough sleep. Insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep) and excessive daytime sleepiness are common problems. Enlarged prostate, which affects as many as 90 percent of men in their 70s and 80s, can cause frequent nighttime urination that disrupts sleep.

Anthony Zizza, MD, a physician in the Senior Health Clinic, offers these helpful tips for a good night’s rest:

  • Make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet, and it’s not too warm.
  • Go to bed when you feel tired and get up at the same time each day.
  • Turn off the TV at least one hour before going to bed.
  • Wind down before bed by taking a bath or listening to soft music.

2. Stay connected

A lot of things change with age. Your social circle may get smaller, you may not be able to drive anymore, health issues can arise or you may be concerned about your financial security. All of these things can cause stress, which has an enormous impact on your quality of life. If you can, visit your local senior center. Spend time with at least one person — a family member, friend or neighbor — every day. Pick up a hobby from childhood that you gave up. Volunteer in your community.

“Try to maintain a busy social life if your health and circumstances allow,” advises Senior Health social worker Leo Newhouse, LICSW. “Talk with your health care provider and family and make a plan to stay active. As you get older, it will help you continue to feel independent, fulfilled and gratified.”

3. Get moving

“Staying active can boost energy levels, help maintain strength and flexibility, improve mental function, reduce your risk for health problems, and even help relieve chronic pain,” says Suzanne Salamon, MD, Associate Chief of the Division of Gerontology at BIDMC and a physician in the Senior Health Clinic. “But, be sure to talk to your health care provider before beginning any exercise program.”

Find an activity you enjoy and begin slowly. Try to incorporate activities that increase your breathing and heart rate, as well as lifting small weights, stretching, and balance exercises into your fitness program. Good choices include walking, swimming, biking, gardening, tai chi, chair yoga and exercise classes designed for seniors.

4. Stay safe

Safety is a serious issue for many older people — especially those who are living alone and experiencing varying degrees of physical and/or mental decline. In addition to falls and choking hazards, concerns include:

Driving. Giving up driving means giving up part of your independence. You may be unwilling to stop driving, even though continuing to drive can pose a safety risk for yourself and for others. BIDMC offers a driving assessment called DriveWise, for people who have experienced neurological, psychological and/or physical impairments.

Fire/smoke safety. That forgotten pot on the stove. The candle that burned all night. Memory lapses, which are more common in older adults, increase the risk for household fires. It’s important to have working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. If you need help inspecting your detectors, call your local fire department.

Extremely hot or cold weather. Older adults are at increased risk for health problems caused by hot or cold temperatures, especially when the cooling or heating systems in their homes aren’t functioning properly.

With rising energy costs, it can be hard to keep up with home energy bills. Many states, counties and cities provide programs that assist older adults with winter heating costs. Boston’s Area Agencies on Aging is a good source of information about locally available community programs (many cities and towns have similar programs).

Crime. Older adults are at increased risk for certain types of crime, including burglary and fraud — identity theft, fake check and wire transfer scams, investment and credit card fraud and fake online charity solicitations. If you ever receive a phone call or e-mail from organizations claiming to be the IRS, the government or a bank asking for your personal information, including bank or credit card information, end communication immediately.

Unfortunately, many also are at risk for another type of crime that takes place in their home, in the home of a family member, or in a living facility or nursing home and is committed by people responsible for their care: elder abuse. This type of crime can be physical, emotional and psychological, or sexual. It may involve neglect, abandonment or financial exploitation. Never accept this kind of treatment from anyone. If you are experiencing elder abuse, please call your local police department.

5. See your health care provider regularly

Knee problems, high blood pressure, diabetes … some studies show that the average 75-year-old has three chronic medical problems, ranging from minor to serious. If you have concerns or questions about your health, talk to your health care provider. You may find it helpful to have a trusted family member or friend accompany you to your medical appointments.

One of the ways to stay healthy as you age is to seek the care of a geriatric physician, also called a geriatrician. Geriatric physicians are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease and disability in older adults. They are specially trained in the aging process and provide comprehensive health care. BIDMC’s Senior Health Clinic offers a full team of 11 geriatricians, a social worker and two nurse practitioners who understand the physical, mental and emotional challenges of aging, and work together with patients, family and caregivers to ensure a higher quality of life.

Please contact your primary care physician or geriatric care provider if you are experiencing any of the physical or emotional issues described above. They are here to help.

God’s Love For You Is Deathless / Bill Kincaid’s Wizard’s Gambit / Why is Coffee Good For You? / TUESDAY, Jan. 5 – We Begin Again

Person Holding White Daisy Flower

“Nothing
can be Loved or hated
unless it is first understood.”

Leonardo da Vinci.

God’s Love for you
is deathless.

The Blessings of Blissful moments
are Lived and Loved
on the pathway to Happiness,
as we struggle with all the misfortunes
of this World,
and Pray to God
to shield us from harm.

In the brightest of days
and the darkest of nights,
amidst your Happiest moments

and gloomiest hours,
there can be a Soft Breeze flowing
through your Life,

the Breath of God,
the Spirit of the Lord
Passing By.

All
that is needed
is Prayer.

The Banner of our purpose
for existence, for Love, for Life,
floats calmly in this Gentle Breeze,
of God’s Unbounded Love for us.

We may have unlimited confidence
in the Love and Care
God will have
for His Precious Children
of Faith.

Such Faith
is simple
and profound.
It is the same
Faith,
that may be found
in the Love
your Children feel
for you.

Blotchy Background

Feel gratified to God
for the Beauty all around,
found in every Leaf
and every Tree,
in everything that was,
and is,
and is to be.

The Hope
in all our future years,

the only Hope
there may be,
resides in our Love
for each other,
the Love
God has given

to you
and me.

 The Love
of our Lord
is kept among even the dimmest memories
of Childhood.
In the Maternal Care
we share,
is the warmth and tender
caress
of all the Love
that is there.

Yes,
the Beauty
of all things
can be beheld
by you.
This knowledge,
this awareness,
gives you
Birth
anew.

There are words Sacred
in number
that let us explore
unfettered
the Eternal Nature
of God’s Love.
They are here,
they are real.
And they reside
within the Holy Word
of God.

In the Eyes of God
every
teardrop is timeless,
every smile
remains in the Heart.
You
are Forever Eternal
in the Love of God
that Created you.

My Dear Friends,
during this precarious time
of worry and stress,
rest
is important to your physical Being,

Many people today

don’t appreciate the true value
of rest,

There is a fantastic
book by Bill Kincaid:
Wizard’s Gambit.

This is Bill’s first
science fiction/fantasy book.

The central figure is
Max Strider,
the sole survivor
of a mission to explore
a distant planet
classified as EVE (Earth Virtual Equivalent).
But there are differences:
like Fire-breathing Dragons & Wizards

work powerful magic.

Will Max’s knowledge of

he will face?

coffee chartWhy is Coffee Good For You?
Here Are 7 Reasons
By Kris Gunnars
To read the full article

In recent years and decades, scientists have studied the effects of coffee on various aspects of health and their results have been nothing short of amazing. Here are 7 reasons why coffee may actually be one of the healthiest beverages on the planet.

1. Coffee Can Make You Smarter

The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, which is a stimulant and the most commonly consumed psychoactive substance in the world. Caffeine’s primary mechanism in the brain is blocking the effects of an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine. By blocking the inhibitory effects of Adenosine, caffeine actually increases neuronal firing in the brain and the release of other neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine.

Many controlled trials have examined the effects of caffeine on the brain, demonstrating that caffeine can improve mood, reaction time, memory, vigilance and general cognitive function.

2. Coffee Can Help You Burn Fat and Improves Physical Performance

There’s a good reason why you will find caffeine in most commercial fat burning supplements.

Caffeine raises metabolism and increases the oxidation of fatty acids.

3. Coffee May Drastically Lower Your Risk of Type II Diabetes

Type II diabetes is a lifestyle-related disease that has reached epidemic proportions, having increased 10-fold in a few decades and now afflicting about 300 million people.

In observational studies, coffee has been repeatedly associated with a lower risk of diabetes. The reduction in risk ranges from 23% all the way up to 67%.

A massive review article looked at 18 studies with a total of 457.922 participants. Each additional cup of coffee per day lowered the risk of diabetes by 7%. The more coffee people drank, the lower their risk.

4. Coffee May Lower Your Risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s

Not only can coffee make you smarter in the short term, it may also protect your brain in old age.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common neurodegenerative disorder in the world and a leading cause of dementia.

In prospective studies, coffee drinkers have up to a 60% lower risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by death of dopamine-generating neurons in the brain. Coffee may lower the risk of Parkinson’s by 32 – 60%.

5. Coffee May be Extremely Good For Your Liver

The liver is a remarkable organ that carries out hundreds of vital functions in the body.

It is very vulnerable to modern insults such as excess consumption of alcohol and fructose. Cirrhosisis the end stage of liver damage caused by diseases like alcoholism and hepatitis, where liver tissue has been largely replaced by scar tissue.

Multiple studies have shown that coffee can lower the risk of cirrhosis by as much as 80%, the strongest effect for those who drank 4 or more cups per day.

Coffee may also lower the risk of liver cancer by around 40%.

6. Coffee May Decrease Your Risk of Dying

In two very large prospective epidemiological studies, drinking coffee was associated with a lower risk of death by all causes.

This effect is particularly profound in type II diabetics, one study showing that coffee drinkers had a 30% lower risk of death during a 20 year period.

7. Coffee is Loaded With Nutrients and Antioxidants

Many of the nutrients in the coffee beans do make it into the final drink, which actually contains a decent amount of vitamins and minerals.

A cup of coffee contains:

6% of the RDA for Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5).
11% of the RDA for Riboflavin (Vitamin B2).
2% of the RDA for Niacin (B3) and Thiamine (B1).
3% of the RDA for Potassium and Manganese.

May not seem like much, but if you drink several cups of coffee per day then this quickly adds up.

But this isn’t all. Coffee also contains a massive amount of antioxidants.

In fact, coffee is the biggest source of antioxidants in the western diet, outranking both fruits and vegetables combined.

Even though coffee in moderate amounts is good for you, drinking way too much of it can still be harmful.

To make sure to preserve the health benefits, don’t put sugar or anything nasty in your coffee! If it tends to affect your sleep, then don’t drink it after 2 p.m.

If anything, coffee may literally be the healthiest beverage on the planet.

And so, my friends, instead of allowing your children to drink deadly and addictive soft drinks, why not introduce them to something healthy? Yes, like coffee.

Our World
is crying out for
understanding.

In our more innocent Time,
when Life was simple
and filled with childhood times
and Love was to be found
every Day,
when the Music of the moment
could touch our Hearts,
and we would play
and Pray,
Life
was good.
.
Many
of our precious memories

are so wholesome.
Just Love them,
for after all these many, many years –
we still are swept away
by the soothing melody
of moments
meant to stay.
Life
should be Lived
moment by moment,
not
day by day.

“Every moment
is a fresh beginning.”

– T. S.  Elliott

There is always a place
your Heart
can return to.
The essence of
Life
stays with us.
For we Live again
in our memories.
Our memories
are us.

Our Reality
is Pure Consciousness,

pure energy.
It cannot be
destroyed,
only transformed.
We are Spiritual Beings
having a Human experience.
And the Consciousness
of our Soul is Eternal.
In the Warm Embrace
of God,
we need never
fear death,
for the end
is forever near
to never
.

The language of Life
and Living,
can obfuscate reality,
and the depths
of our feelings

Today,
there may be no calm surrender
to the rush of day,
no gentle
reminder
that Love,
like the Sun,
will rise again
one day.

In these Times
of loneliness and uncertainty,

the Beautiful Reflections of Life remind us
that everything will be okay.
Because,

we have never lost
our way.

Every night in our Dreams,
  we see,
we hear,
we feel,

and Life goes
on,
even in the depths
of darkness,
and the decay
of Day.

But,
we can feel
the power of God

within.
A feeling

so powerful
it cannot be denied.
His Precious Words

are Jewels to our ears,
as we come closer
to His Truth

“True happiness is like radium.
It is a form of Love that becomes
all the more complete
as it is turned towards others;
that is why happiness is within everyone’s reach,
even the poorest.”

Robert Baden-Powell

Search your Heart

no more.
And then,
there will be just two types of people
left –
those who have fallen in Love with you,

We Beautiful people,

And when you cry,
the Love in your Heart
is a Fountain
of Blessing

for someone in this Life
far beyond Beauty,
beyond
what may be told.
and is foretold

by the Love
of God.

God,
will always care,
wherever you may be,
He will be there.

Fantasy, Moon, Girl, Night, Bank, Light

The Magic in your Heart
may lie across a Sea
of tears
you cry
for those
you meet
and truly Love.

Only
the Human Heart knows,
how Love
and pain
may become one
and the same.

Goodnight.

10 Surprising Tips for Managing Stress
from our friends at Canyon Ranch

Effective stress management has become more important than ever. What do you normally do when stress is getting to you? Many of us turn to exercise or talk to a therapist when feelings of anger, anxiety or frustration arise. But did you know that taking a different route to work or sleeping on a fresh set of sheets can also help alleviate stress?

Try some of these unusual techniques the next time you need to clear your mind or calm yourself down.

Focus on Your Breath
When you’re stressed, your heart rate can increase, which can make you feel even more stressed. Try this simple exercise:
Focus your attention on your heartbeat for a few seconds. Then put your hand on your belly to feel it rise and fall as you breathe, and say, This is my body breathing. As you inhale and exhale deeply, notice your heart rate slow and feelings of calmness grow.

Rewrite Your Script
Ever have the same negative thoughts so frequently that they become a never-ending tape-loop, playing over and over again in your mind? I’ll never get everything done. I know they’re going to fire me. I’m going to get sick.

When you start thinking worst-case scenarios, ask yourself if your concerns are based on facts or emotions. If the latter, imagine that these thoughts are part of a script that you’re writing, then change the lines. This can help create some distance between you and your worries, and remind you that you are in control of the story of your life.

Or … Channel Your Inner Storyteller
As an alternative, invent a fairytale ending to your “story.” It’s an entertaining distraction and can help you recognize that fantasies—both bad and good—are just that. The reality of your situation probably lies somewhere in between.
Tune Into a New Voice
If you can’t turn off the stressful negative talk in your head, try replacing it with talk that’s positive. Music can help, but listening to an audio book or an interesting interview can provide you with actual dialogue to focus on.

Control What You Can Control
Worrying about major life or world events is one kind of stress, but equally as bothersome are the daily, chronic stressors that cause aggravation and tension. To avoid irksome traffic, take an alternate route to work that might be longer but less crowded. If you find yourself too wound up to sleep after watching the evening news, skip it in favor of a lighthearted sitcom.

Find the Funny
Research shows that laughter reduces stress hormones and triggers some of the same mood-boosting effects as exercise. So do whatever tickles your funny bone.

Make Time for Play
Watch young children at play. They truly live in the moment, not worrying about the future or the past. Take a cue from them and play at something in which you can become totally engrossed.
Start a card game, set aside time to do a craft project or draw a picture. Not an artist? No problem. Pick a simple image, like a tree or have fun doodling in a notebook. Don’t worry about how it turns out, simply focus on the act of drawing—the way your pen or pencil moves across the paper as the image takes shape.

Nurture Another Living Thing
It is easier to limit the time spent focusing on your own stressful thoughts when you’re busy attending to something or someone else. Bake cookies for a neighbor, play with a pet or get outside and garden.

Engage Your Senses
Senses play a role in your levels of stress. Gentle music, calming scents like lavender and dim lighting can alleviate stress.
And touch is no exception. Wearing something soft, splurging on a cozy set of sheets or even just keeping a piece of your favorite fabric in your pocket to hold or stroke occasionally can make your feel comforted and relaxed.

Try Some Tools
Traditional meditation tools—prayer beads, gongs, chanting—can help you focus and relax.
Or experiment with different apps you can download for your smartphone or tablet. There’s even a Zen rock garden app that lets you rake the sand with your fingertips.

We Have the Freedom to Choose / Aging is REVERSED / Friday: Modern Art Museum

Do you sing
in the Sunshine?
Do you laugh
every day?
Do you give away
the things you never
really possessed?
Have you come to know
the rain must fall,
the wind must blow.
.
My Dear Friends,
when
our cup runneth over
with Love for Life –
we are TRULY
alive.

                 YOUR OUTLOOK is vital.

Why should we look
on the bright side of Life?
 Simply because,
we are more likely to survive
and enjoy our brief time
on this Earth.

    Looking on the bright side
helps us to survive threats
to our health
and happiness.

“Associate yourself
with people of good quality,

for it is better to be alone
than in bad company.”
Booker T. Washington

Those of us
with an optimistic outlook
are 30 per cent less likely to require treatment
in a hospital.

My Friend,
Optimism is a choice.
We have the freedom
to choose.

Optimistic people have
better health.
Yes,
Having a positive outlook on Life
helps people live longer.
But importantly,
YOUR OUTLOOK
is vital
to the mental and physical health
of your Child.

Focus on what you can do.

Focusing on what you
and your precious Child
can do,
will ALWAYS
have more positive outcomes.

One of the most powerful lessons
learned from Life,
is NOT to believe
everything you think.
This world is nothing more
than a reflection
of who we are
deep down inside.
.
Our brain
and our body
are Human.
We are,
thank God,
not perfect.

Respect yourself enough
to walk away from anything
that no longer makes you
feel good about you,
helps you to grow
or makes you happy.
Be confident
that no one can drain you
if you do not cooperate
in their negativity.

We attract in our lives
people and events and situations
that mirror
our internal state of Being.
.
To raise our positive energy
focus on the things you Love about yourself,
your Life
and the world around you.

Do so by thinking of someone you Love deeply,
by thinking about things you are really
passionate about.

              WE HAVE the Freedom.

A recent study revealed
that women who are optimistic
are less likely to die
from cancer, heart disease, stroke,
infection, and several other
major causes of death.
.
Studies have also found
people who are less stressed
have lower cholesterol levels,
are less prone to inflammation,
have a better immune response
and higher levels of antioxidants in the blood.
.
And,
there is a growing body of evidence
that strongly suggests that mood
has a major impact
on a your chance of recovery
from any physical ailment.

What we can call
positivity ,
along with a healthy diet and exercise
will contribute
to our well being
and happiness
in Life.

The CHOICE
is
YOURS.

Decide
today!

Turning back time!

Aging is REVERSED in men
using a cocktail of growth hormones and diabetes drugs
in a study that saw the test group
shed 2.5 biological years.

  • Researchers at UCLA  used a trio of common drugs to restore the thymus
  • The gland specializes immune cells that fight cancer and infection and degrades with age
  • Growth hormone combined with two diabetes drugs made the thymus regenerate
  • After a year on the drug cocktail the nine white men involved were an average of 2.5 years biologically younger than they had been at the study’s start

A cocktail of three common drugs appeared to not only slow aging but to reverse it in a small new study published in Nature on Thursday.

Nine people were given a growth hormone and two diabetes drugs for a year as part of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), trial.

By the end of their cycles on the medications, the study participants had, biologically aged 2.5 yearsin reverse.

At first blush it looks like a revelation for human health and life expectancy – but the small group of participants were all white men and there was no control group to compare the findings to, drawing some skepticism from experts.

New research suggests that a three-drug cocktail could reverse biological aging.

To many, immortality is the Holy Grail of futurism and medicine.

And even if you don’t idealize the notion of living forever, with aging comes disease and the body’s degradation, so evading the damage that time does to us could mean living a healthier life as well as a longer one.

Much more critical to the length and quality of our lives than our numerical age or the lines on our faces is how our body’s are changing at the cellular and molecular levels.

Scientists gauge biological aging by something called the ‘epigenetic clock.’ One method of doing so was developed by co-author of the new study, UCLA’s Dr Steve Horvath.

This age assessment looks at changes to how DNA is expressed. As we age, chemical tags called methyls start to hang on to molecules of DNA.

Theses pesky changes don’t alter the sequence of the DNA, but they can disrupt  the way a section of the genetic code gets turned on and off or issues instructions to biological structures.

More methyls are added to DNA over time, so it becomes more predisposed to disruption, and we become more predisposed to aging itself as well as cancer.

Many factors influence this process, called methylation, and can make our biological clocks race ahead of or trail behind our age in years.

The process effects every organ and tissue in the body – including a vital gland called the thymus.

The thymus functions like finishing school for the white blood cells that drive much of the immune system.

White blood cells are made within the bone marrow, but it’s in the thymus where they enter their final forms, becoming T cells that keep infections and cancer at bay.

The thymus starts to degrade with age and as levels of human growth hormone fall.

Previous research in animals suggested that giving people supplemental growth hormone might protect and restore the thymus.

So Dr Horvath’s collaborator, immunologist and co-founder of Intervene Immune, Dr Gregory Fahy, recruited nine white men between the ages of 51 and 65 to take the growth hormone DHEA.

Dr Fahy had actually experimented with the possibility of using DHEA to rejuvenate the thymus – on himself, in the 1990s.

Since unusually high levels of DHEA may trigger diabetes, the men in the trial were also given the two diabetes drugs.

Over the course of the year they were involved in the study, their thymus tissue was regularly tested.

By the end of the trial, seven of the participants thymuses had shed disruptive fat from the gland, and healthy thymus tissue had regrown in its place.

Dr Horvath happened to ask if he could analyze the mens’ epigenetic markers of age.

Remarkably, all 10 participants had fewer methyl tags at the end of the study than they had in the beginning.

Biologically speaking, they appeared to have gotten 2.5 years younger.

‘I’d expected to see slowing down of the clock, but not a reversal’ Dr Horvath told Nature.

‘That felt kind of futuristic.’

But, of course, there was no control group whose thymuses and epigenetic markers of age were being compared, and the sample was all white men, so it’s far from proof that aging can be reversed.

It is, however a promising finding for follow-up research.

Meeting General George Patton / MANY Other Wars to Fight / Friday: Museum of Science and History

 Honoring truly great leaders:
General George S. Patton Jr.
and his son
General George Patton IV

George S. Patton was perhaps
the finest general
to ever lead men into battle.
He was a true American Hero.
And was the only Allied General
feared by the Nazis
in World War II.

George Smith Patton, born in 1885,
was educated at the American Military Academy.

As a child he had difficulty learning to read and write,
but overcame this.
Later in his adult life he became an avid reader.

He was Home schooled,
like our precious children,
until the age of eleven.

Then he was enrolled in Stephen Clark’s School for Boys,
a private school in Pasadena.
He was a highly intelligent child
and widely read classical military history.

Following graduation he became
an aide-de-camp to General Pershing
in his valiant campaign against Pancho Villa.

And George S. Patton was linked
with daring exploits as this
throughout his military career.

A highly intelligent child .

Following his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel in 1934
in Hawaii, he foresaw the possibility
of a Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
with a remarkable degree of foresight
and sent a note about it,
four years before the attack occurred.

Following the end of World War II,
on December 9, 1945, General George S. Patton
was severely injured in a traffic accident.
He and his chief of staff were on a day trip
to hunt pheasants

in the country outside Mannheim.
Patton was sitting in the back seat of his 1938 Cadillac.
And at 11:45 a. m., near Neckarstadt,
a truck made a left turn in front of the Cadillac.
Patton’s car hit the front of the truck at a low speed.

Patton’s dog Willie mourns his master.             (This photo moved me to tears.)

Patton was buried at the Luxembourg American Cemetery
in Hamm, Luxembourg along with others in the Third Army.
His request was to be buried with his men.

On March 19, 1947,
his body was moved from the original grave site
to its current prominent location
at the head of his former troops.

My Dear Friends,
I was privileged and Honored
to recently visit the Luxembourg American Cemetery
and the place where General Patton
was laid to rest,
along with over five thousand
of his valiant soldiers
who gave their last full measure of Devotion
to you and me.

By the way,
the American Battle Monuments Commission
maintains 24 permanent American burial grounds
on foreign soil.
Presently there are 124,909 U.S. war dead
interred at these cemeteries.
The total number of Americans
who died for our freedom
in all wars,
is approximately
1,264,000
– 620,000 in the Civil War
and 644,000 in all other conflicts.

Monument in honor of General George Patton Jr.

Our freedom
is the most expensive
thing on this planet.
When you see a Veteran,
thank him or her,
and do what you can
for that wonderful person.

It is difficult
for me to convey the emotion
that I felt
upon visiting the graves
of so very, very many
who lost their lives
combating evil
and tyranny.
I am in tears
as I try to express
my admiration, gratitude and Love
for these truly
Brave and Beautiful People.

Military leaders like General Patton
are very few and very far between.
Please take note of the fact that
we have had military leaders at the precise time
when we needed them for conflicts,
when this country
was truly in need
in order for our country
to survive.

We have been truly Blessed
to have such great leaders
in our desperate times.
I Believe
that his precious Life
was a Gift
to our Nation
from Almighty God.

General George Patton was a man
equal to none.

“I Love this Man
and I think he was terribly under used and maligned.
We need Men like him today.
Gen. Patton was one of the best military minds ever.
May he be resting in the sweetest of
Peace and Grace.”
Pam pamellita

I was especially moved
to visit his grave
and the George Patton Museum
after having met his son,
General George Patton IV
at Fort Hood in 1977.

As fate would have it,
I was invited by the Husband
of my wonderful school secretary
to see Fort Hood.
At the time,
I served as the Principal
of LaVega Primary School.
Claudia Mitchell
mentioned to her Husband,
and member of the Army Reserve,
George Mitchell,
that I wanted to see Fort Hood.
And to my amazement,
she spoke with George
and arranged for me to accompany him
on his next trip.

The rest of the story
is like a Dream come true.

George Patton IV

Shortly after we arrived,
I noticed high in the sky
a very small helicopter
circling above us.
George and I
were visiting and looking at the landscape,
when this tiny copter suddenly
landed a few yards away.

I was startled
when a tall man
ducked down to get out
and came quickly
toward us.

He extended his hand
toward me
and introduced himself as
General George Patton!
I shook his hand
in shock and disbelief.

It was the son
of the very famous General Patton
of World War II.

He stated that he heard
I was here.
(obviously, Mr. Mitchell
shared information about me
before we arrived)
And he wanted to meet me.
Then he said
“I have been looking
for someone like you,
to be on my personal staff.”

I then looked around
to see who he was speaking to.
I found only
George Mitchell and me.

Then he asked,
“How old are you?”

I said I am twenty seven.
The General paused,
looked me up and down,
and stated that I was one year older
than officer’s candidate school would accept.

He shook my hand again
and said that it was nice
to meet me,
and then said thank you
to George,
crawled back into his tiny craft
and disappeared.

I looked at George Mitchell
and asked
“What the Hell?”

George Mitchell just chuckled
and we both slowly
walked away,
I, in disbelief.

                     “Willie”

As it turns out,
this General Patton
was the tenth in a family line of U.S. military men
in American History.

George Patton IV
served in Korea from 1953,
commanding “A” Company of the 140th Tank Battalion,
40th Infantry Division.
He received his first Silver Star
and the Purple Heart in Korea.

Returning to the United States in 1954,
He was assigned to West Point
but later was sent to teach at the
United States Naval Academy.

He served three tours of duty in Vietnam,
and then took command
of the 2nd Medium Tank Battalion, 81st Armored Regiment
of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood Texas.

During Patton’s final tour
he was awarded two Distinguished Service Crosses.
And, while in Vietnam, he frequently used helicopters as a mobile command post and was shot down three times and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After Vietnam,
he was promoted to Brigadier General
before becoming the commanding officer
of the U.S. 2nd Armored Division,
a unit his Father had commanded
in North Africa during World War II,
making this the first time in U.S. Army history
that a father and a son
had both commanded the same division.

          Visiting the wounded.

Like his Father,
Patton IV was a devout Episcopalian
and a believer in reincarnation.
He remembered visiting the site
of a Napoleonic battle in Regensburg, Germany,
where he was gripped by the feeling
that he had once been in combat there.
After his installation he went
to the post Chapel to meditate.
“While there,” he confessed,
“I not only felt the presence of God,
I also felt the presence of my Father.”

Brigadier General Patton
was Deputy Post Commander at Fort Knox during 1972.
He was known by the troops as a
GI General,”
often appearing in the Dining Hall during meal times.
And often he would be behind the serving line.

At Fort Hood
Maj. Gen. George Smith Patton was again in charge
of the Second Armored Division.

To the division it seemed as though the two men
were one and the same,
that George Patton IV was an eerie reincarnation
of his Father, Old Blood and Guts.

Interestingly, he was also stationed near Stuttgart,
where Manfred Rommel, son of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel,
was Mayor of the city.
The sons of the two former adversaries entered into a friendship,
which continued until his death in 2004.
The men shared the same birthday, December 24.

He died from a form of Parkinson’s disease
at the age of 80 in 2004.

General Patton’s young grandson, who still is living,
makes interviews on the History Channel
and the Military Channel,
recalling his family heritage.

I, too,
have a Family Heritage
I am very proud of.
My Uncle,
Eugene R. Retz,
fought in the Battle of Bulge.
He was captured by German forces
and spent over a year
as a prisoner of war.
He suffered from the experience
his entire Life
from coming close to death
by starvation.
.
“I recall when Gene was released from prisoner of war.
I believe it was close to Christmas time
and I was a young boy of about 8 years old.
I had just received an electric American Flyer train for Christmas.
On several occasions, Gene would come over to my home
and he and I would play (to my Joy) with the electric train.
At that time, I knew him only
as gentle and seemingly frail.”

Dear Friends,
we have many other
Wars
to fight.
And in these struggles,
YOUR
courage and leadership
is needed:

The use of alcohol
results in the death
of two and one half million people each year
and causes serious illness and injury
to many millions more.
Most deaths caused by alcohol results from
injuries, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and liver cirrhosis.

From our friends at Livescience.com:
Drinking alcohol in moderation is more harmful
than previously thought,
according to a new study that concludes
there is no “safe” level
of alcohol consumption.

The comprehensive study,
which analyzed information from millions of people
in nearly 200 countries, found that alcohol
is tied to nearly 3 million deaths globally each year.

What’s more, any protective health effects of alcohol
were offset by the drink’s risk,
including strong links between alcohol consumption
and the risk of cancer
and injuries such as those resulting from car accidents.
[7 Ways Alcohol Affects Your Health]

“The widely held view of the health benefits of alcohol
needs revising,”
the researchers wrote in their paper,
published online Aug. 23 in the journal The Lancet.
“Our results show that
the safest level of drinking is NONE.”

People can be drawn to the sedative effects of alcohol
as a kind of medication,
helping to distract from persistent feelings of sadness.

While alcohol may temporarily relieve
some of the symptoms of depression,
it ultimately serves to worsen depression
on a long-term basis.

Alcohol
is a
depressant.

My Dear Friends,
allow your Love
to blossom into courage
and share your disdain

(Yes, that is exactly what it is).
Your children

and they must know from
YOU,
the truth.

              A river of NO return.

On yet another battleground,
and there are MANY:

According to the
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention,
over 44,000 people try to commit suicide
each year in the United States.
In 2015, suicide was the second leading cause of death
in people 15 to 34 years of age
and third leading cause of death
in children aged 10 to 14,
according to the CDC.

Suicide has surpassed war
as the military’s leading cause of death.
War was the leading cause of death in the military
nearly every year between 2004 and 2011
until suicides became the top means dying.
More U.S. soldiers killed themselves
(468) than died in combat.

Improving diagnosis
of mental health conditions can help.
Most people who commit suicide
have seen a doctor within the last year,
but many do not get diagnosed with the mental illness
that will ultimately kill them.

Wars

Please find the courage
to openly discuss the warning signs
and prevention.
Our very, very, fragile
and very HUMAN
brothers and sisters,
and sons and daughters,
need to hear YOU
voice your Love,
your concern,
and your compassion.

WE
have allowed our society to evolve
into an unbelievably complex and stressful
MESS!

Please take three giant steps backward
in time – toward those moments
when JOY was the order of the day.
Reflect upon those precious times
when you, and those around you,
were truly happy.

Now,
do, or do not do,
what took place,
or did not take place,
then,
in order to make you
happy.

      Joy is inside.

Joy does not simply happen to us.
Joy is inside
and not dependent on outside things.
In other words,
it’s a mindset.

Be Childlike.

Love every moment
for its sheer greatness.
Start paying attention to the details,
to the intricacies of life.
Life will amaze you.

Start Loving yourself
for who you are.
And who are
YOU?
No!
You do not know.
No one knows.
ONLY
God knows.

Go to your Father
in Heaven Above
and ASK
for help.

He will not
fail you.
He
LOVES
you.

Relive
the precious moments
when you felt
truly alive,
filled with
Joy.

      ASK for help.

.Visit places
and friends and family members
associated with Happy moments.
Listen to those Songs that inspired you
and made your Heart jump for Joy.
Get in touch with old friends
who were genuine towards you.

If you truly
want to be Joyful,
put your mind
outside
of your body.
DO SOMETHING
FOR SOMEONE ELSE!
Help another living person.
Put your mind to work
on THEIR problems and difficulties.
STOP thinking about
yourself.

The greatest feeling of JOY
your will ever come to know,
is when you help another
truly in need.

It is important to realize
that the mind can think of only
one thing
at a time.
And this,
My Friend,
is a GIFT.
If we put our mind to work
thinking of helping
someone other than
our self,
we simply cannot
focus upon our
worries, fears and problems.
Yes,
the inability to multi-task
(which is an illusion),
is truly a
Gift.

Starting Over is Forfeiting the End / Where JOY Hides and How To Find It / Friday: Modern Art Museum

What we endear,
defines
what we can endure.
The weather
in the mind
may be
cloudy or clear,
intemperate,
or to your Sacred Heart,
very dear.

“I have been thinking about this for a long time;
trying to understand how we are asked
by merely waking
to endure the hardships of living
and how we are asked,
in the midst of that struggle,
and often through the openings that struggle creates,
to endear ourselves
into the Fabric of Life.”
Mark Nepo
To Endure and Endear

But
True Love,
My Dear Friend,
is a term of
endearment
meant for us all.
From the start,
God expresses his deep and abiding
affection for us.

The Love of God,
is beyond definition.
It defies even death.
The Ultimate Love
of God
defines
Eternity.

“Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.”
Frederick M. Lehman
(The Love of God)

My Friends,
give Life,
and the Love of Life,
a new beginning
so the morrow
may become a friend.
Starting over
is forfeiting the end.

In our stories
of Hope,
we harvest
every Season
of the Heart.

Joy,
the second fruit of the Spirit,
(Galatians 5:22)
is more than just happiness.
There is
a Joy that God gives
that far exceeds
mere Human cheerfulness.

You are not shade or shadow.

Seeing clearly,
we find
our mortal shapes
made of clay,
walk in the LIGHT
of God’s Pure Love
day by day.

He can make you laugh,
and teach you
once again,
to play and have fun,
and bask
in the Glorious Light
of His Sun.

You are not
shade or shadow.
Your Spirit
need never lie
in the field
fallow.

My Friend,
the shape
of Life’s Compass,
is in the likeness
of the Cross.
Such Compassion,
as was His suffering
and sacrifice,
truly
shows us the
WAY.

The shape of Life’s Compass.

Our perilous imaginations
can preclude
the common denominator
of common sense.

What ultimately matters
has nothing to do
with matter,
and everything
to do with
the Spirit.

Go
to your Heavenly Father
in Prayer.
He is listening
to hear the
the sound of your voice,
just as YOU
long to hear
the sound
of your precious
Child.

“Arise,
Cry aloud in the night,

At the beginning of the night watches;
Pour out your Heart like water
Before the presence of the Lord.”
Lamentations 2:19

Yes,
a Child of yours,
crying aloud
in need in the night,
would find YOU
to be
by their side.
And so it is
with your Father
in Heaven Above.

“No temptation has overtaken you
except what is COMMON to mankind.
And God is Faithful;
He will not let you be tempted
beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted,
he will also provide a way out
so that you can endure it.”
First Corinthians 10:13

This Scripture
teaches us something wonderful.
If we belong to God,
He will not allow any difficulty
to come into our lives
that we are not capable of bearing.
With every temptation,
with every trial that comes our way,
God will remain Faithful
to us;
He will provide
a way to endure.

Goodnight.

Where JOY Hides
and How To Find It.

by Ingrid Fetell Lee

“I know what joy feels like, but what is it, exactly?” And I found that even scientists don’t always agree, and they sometimes use the words “joy” and “happiness” and “positivity” more or less interchangeably. But broadly speaking, when psychologists use the word joy, what they mean is an intense, momentary experience of positive emotion — one that makes us smile and laugh and feel like we want to jump up and down. And this is actually a technical thing. That feeling of wanting to jump up and down is one of the ways that scientists measure joy. It’s different than happiness, which measures how good we feel over time. Joy is about feeling good in the moment, right now. And this was interesting to me because as a culture, we are obsessed with the pursuit of happiness, and yet in the process, we kind of overlook joy.

So this got me thinking: Where does joy come from? I started asking everyone I knew, and even people I just met on the street, about the things that brought them joy. On the subway, in a café, on an airplane, it was, “Hi, nice to meet you. What brings you joy?” I felt like a detective. I was like, “When did you last see it? Who were you with? What color was it? Did anyone else see it?” I was the Nancy Drew of joy.

(Laughter)

And after a few months of this, I noticed that there were certain things that started to come up again and again and again. They were things like cherry blossoms and bubbles … swimming pools and tree houses … hot air balloons and googly eyes –

(Laughter)

and ice cream cones, especially the ones with the sprinkles. These things seemed to cut across lines of age and gender and ethnicity. I mean, if you think about it, we all stop and turn our heads to the sky when the multicolored arc of a rainbow streaks across it. And fireworks – we don’t even need to know what they’re for, and we feel like we’re celebrating, too. These things aren’t joyful for just a few people; they’re joyful for nearly everyone. They’re universally joyful. And seeing them all together, it gave me this indescribably hopeful feeling.

The sharply divided, politically polarized world we live in sometimes has the effect of making our differences feel so vast as to be insurmountable. And yet underneath it all, there’s a part of each of us that finds joy in the same things. And though we’re often told that these are just passing pleasures, in fact, they’re really important, because they remind us of the shared humanity we find in our common experience of the physical world.

But I still needed to know: What is it about these things that makes them so joyful? I had pictures of them up on my studio wall, and every day, I would come in and try to make sense of it. And then one day, something just clicked. I saw all these patterns: round things … pops of bright color … symmetrical shapes … a sense of abundance and multiplicity … a feeling of lightness or elevation. When I saw it this way, I realized that though the feeling of joy is mysterious and elusive, we can access it through tangible, physical attributes, or what designers call aesthetics, a word that comes from the same root as the Greek word “aísthomai,” which means, “I feel,” “I sense,” “I perceive.”

And since these patterns were telling me that joy begins with the senses, I began calling them “Aesthetics of Joy”; the sensations of joy. And in the wake of this discovery, I noticed something that as I walked around, I began spotting little moments of joy everywhere I went – a vintage yellow car or a clever piece of street art. It was like I had a pair of rose-colored glasses, and now that I knew what to look for, I was seeing it everywhere. It was like these little moments of joy were hidden in plain sight.

And at the same time, I had another realization, that if these are the things that bring us joy, then why does so much of the world look like this?

(Laughter)

Why do we go to work here? Why do we send our kids to schools that look like this? Why do our cities look like this? And this is most acute for the places that house the people that are most vulnerable among us: nursing homes, hospitals, homeless shelters, housing projects. How did we end up in a world that looks like this?

We all start out joyful, but as we get older, being colorful or exuberant opens us up to judgment. Adults who exhibit genuine joy are often dismissed as childish or unserious or self-indulgent, and so we hold ourselves back from joy, and we end up in a world that looks like this.

But if the aesthetics of joy can be used to help us find more joy in the world around us, then couldn’t they also be used to create more joy? I spent that last two years scouring the planet, looking for different ways that people have answered this question.

And this led me to the work of the artist Arakawa and the poet Madeline Gins, who believed that these kinds of environments are literally killing us. And so they set out the create an apartment building that they believed would reverse aging. And this is it.

(Laughter)

(Applause)

It’s a real place, just outside Tokyo. I spent a night there, and it’s a lot.

(Laughter)

The floors undulate, so you don’t end up walking around so much as kind of bouncing around the apartment, and there are bright colors in every direction. I’m not sure I left any younger, but it’s as if, by trying to create an apartment that would make us feel youthful, they ended up creating one that was joyful. And yes, this is a bit much for everyday life, but it made me wonder: What about the rest of us? How do we bring these ideas back into the real world?

So I started finding people who were doing just that. For example, this hospital, designed by the Danish artist Poul Gernes. Or these schools, transformed by the non-profit Publicolor. What’s interesting is that Publicolor has heard from school administrators who say that attendance improves, graffiti disappears and kids actually say they feel safer in these painted schools. And this aligns with research conducted in four countries, which shows that people working in more colorful offices are actually more alert, more confident and friendlier than those working in drab spaces.

Why would this be the case? Well, as I started to trace back our love of color, I found that some researchers see a connection to our evolution. Color, in a very primal way, is a sign of life, a sign of energy. And the same is true of abundance. We evolved in a world where scarcity is dangerous, and abundance meant survival. So, one confetto – which happens to be the singular of confetti, in case you were wondering –

(Laughter)

isn’t very joyful, but multiply it, and you have a handful of one of the most joyful substances on the planet. The architect Emmanuelle Moureaux uses this idea in her work a lot. This is a nursing home she designed, where she uses these multicolored spheres to create a feeling of abundance. And what about all those round things I noticed? Well, it turns out neuroscientists have studied this, too.

They put people into fMRI machines, and they showed them pictures of angular objects and round ones. And what they found is that the amygdala, a part of the brain associated in part with fear and anxiety, lit up when people looked at angular objects, but not when they looked at the round ones. They speculate that because angles in nature are often associated with objects that might be dangerous to us, that we evolved an unconscious sense of caution around these shapes, whereas curves set us at ease.

You can see this in action in the new Sandy Hook Elementary School. After the mass shooting there in 2012, the architects Svigals + Partners knew that they needed to create a building that was secure, but they wanted to create one that was joyful, and so they filled it with curves. There are waves running along the side of the building, and these squiggly canopies over the entryway, and the whole building bends toward the entrance in a welcoming gesture.

Each moment of joy is small, but over time, they add up to more than the sum of their parts. And so maybe instead of chasing after happiness, what we should be doing is embracing Joy and finding ways to put ourselves in the path of it more often. Deep within us, we all have this impulse to seek out joy in our surroundings. And we have it for a reason. Joy isn’t some superfluous extra. It’s directly connected to our fundamental instinct for survival. On the most basic level, the drive toward joy is the drive toward life.

The River of Life / Supplements for Diabetes / WEDNESDAY trip: Modern Art Museum

The River of Life
swiftly flows and evermore
down a slope
that is steep
and seldom yielding
to our desires.
But Blessings deep
are carved into the marrow
of tomorrow.

Thus
we are molded
into that which
survives
and Time will keep.

Carved into the marrow of tomorrow.

As we borrow Today
from our children,
beautiful moments are forged
into Wonder,
and then
we sleep.

And when
you are wide awake
in the middle of a Dream,
when the Spirit emerges
from the physical Being,
to freely roam
Ethereal space,
the rhythm of Life
is locked in place
with Cosmic Time
that leaves no
trace.

Yes,
when we are
far, far away
in Dreams
that tell us who we really are,
we see
not just the the poetic imagination,
but the Spiritual,
not only the day
in night,
but what may be,
second sight.

The cycle of Dreams
night after night,
like the breathing

the swelling of the

is much like
our emotions,

Herbs and Supplements for Diabetes

Using Supplements for Diabetes Treatment
It is always best to let the foods you eat provide your vitamins and minerals. However, more and more people are turning to alternative medicines and supplements. In fact, according to the American Diabetes Association, diabetics are more likely to use supplements than those without the disease.

Supplements should not be used to replace standard diabetes treatment. Doing so can put your health at risk.

It is important to talk to your doctor before using any supplements. Some of these products can interfere with other treatments and medications. Just because a product is natural does not mean it is safe to use.

A number of supplements have shown promise as diabetes treatments. These include the following:
Cinnamon
Chinese medicine has been using cinnamon for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. It has been the subject of numerous studies to determine its effect on blood glucose levels. A 2011 study has shown that cinnamon, in whole form or extract, helps lower fasting blood glucose levels. More studies are being done, but cinnamon is showing promise for helping to treat diabetes.

Chromium
Chromium is an essential trace element. It is used in the metabolism of carbohydrates. However, research on the use of chromium for diabetes treatment is mixed. Low doses are safe for most people, but there is a risk that chromium could make blood sugar go too low. High doses also have the potential to cause kidney damage.

Vitamin B-1
Vitamin B-1 is also known as thiamine. Many people with diabetes are thiamine deficient. This may contribute to some diabetes complications. Low thiamine has been linked to heart disease and blood vessel damage.

Thiamine is water-soluble. It has difficulty getting into the cells where it’s needed. However, benfotiamine, a supplemental form of thiamine, is lipid-soluble. It more easily penetrates cell membranes. Some research suggests that benfotiamine can prevent diabetic complications. However, other studies have not shown any positive effects.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid
Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant.
Some studies suggest it may:
• reduce oxidative stress
• lower fasting blood sugar levels
• decrease insulin resistance
However, more research is needed. Furthermore, ALA needs to be taken with caution, as it has the potential to lower
blood sugar levels to dangerous levels.

Bitter Melon
Bitter melon is used to treat diabetes-related conditions in countries like Asia, South America, and others. There is a lot of data on its effectiveness as a treatment for diabetes in animal and lab studies.
However, there is limited human data on bitter melon. There are not enough clinical studies on human. The human studies currently available are not of high quality.

Green Tea
Green tea contains polyphenols, which are antioxidants.
The main antioxidant in green tea is known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Laboratory studies have suggested that EGCG may have numerous health benefits including:
• lower cardiovascular disease risk
• prevention of type 2 diabetes
• improved glucose control
better insulin activity
Studies on diabetic patients have not shown health benefits. However, green tea is generally considered safe.

Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a chemical found in wine and grapes. In animal models, it helps prevent high blood sugar. Animal studies have also shown that it can reduce oxidative stress. However, human data is limited. It is too soon to know if supplementation helps with diabetes.

Magnesium
Magnesium is an essential nutrient. It helps regulate blood pressure. It also regulates insulin sensitivity. Supplemental magnesium may improve insulin sensitivity in diabetics.
A high magnesium diet may also reduce the risk of diabetes. Researchers have found a link between higher magnesium intake, lower rates of insulin resistance, and diabetes.

OUR Children Are Dying From ADHD Drugs! WAKE UP! / Coffee May Stave Off Depression / Good Friday and Easter Monday are Holidays

                       Come on Folks!  Wake UP!

OUR Children are dying
from ADHD Drugs!

Sadly,
the deaths of many children
has remained suppressed
for so long because there is
a tremendous amount of
money and profit at $take.

Between 1990 and 2000 there were 186 deaths
from methylphenidate (Ritalin)
reported to the FDA MedWatch program,
a voluntary reporting scheme,
the numbers of which represent
no more than 10 to 20%
of the actual incidence.

We need to expose
the health risks, dangers, deaths
and suicides
that are a direct result
of administering Ritalin
and other psychiatric drugs to children.

Does Ritalin Increase Cancer Risk in Children?

Research is raising concerns about the drug Ritalin,
suggesting that children who take it
may have an increased risk of
cancer
.

Ten year old Harry Hucknall’s death resulted from two ‘mind-altering’ drugs that had been prescribed  by a psychiatrist. read  more

ALL of the children
included in a University of Texas study experienced
an increase in chromosome abnormalities
just three months after starting Ritalin.

Chromosome damage has been linked
to heightened cancer risk
and to other health problems.

Lead researcher Randa A. El-Zein, MD, PhD, and colleagues
found a THREEFOLD increase
in the level of chromosomal damage
in the samples taken after the children
were started on Ritalin.

Several animal studies have also suggested
a link between Ritalin use
and cancer.

Chemicals for ADD and ADHD?

Something is wrong,
but not with your precious child.

God, in His Wisdom,
has never created a child
He did not deeply Love.
The concern you express for your child
is part of that abiding Love.

Matthew was a teenager
who had been on Ritalin for seven years.
His death certificate reads:
“Death caused from long-term use
of methylphenidate (Ritalin).”

Please consult with your physician
and ask him or her to remove your child
from all the harmful chemicals
that will create more and more issues
as time passes.
The research that is readily available
has led to the conclusion
that no child should be subjected
to the long term effects

of these substances.
And very few longitudinal studies
have been conducted.

I do NOT wonder
Why $ $ $ $.

Another boy named Matthew had been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. And like an estimated 2.5 million other children in the United States, he was taking medication for the condition.

Matthew took his pill that morning with a glass of water. He was later found after he had collapsed on the bathroom floor.  read more

Yes,
you will be horrified.

The Drug Enforcement Administration
had classified Methylphenidate (Ritalin)
as a Schedule II drug,
comparable to Cocaine.

Methylphenidate is also one of the top ten
abused prescription drugs.
Ritalin causes constriction of veins and arteries,
causing the heart to work overtime
and inevitably leading to damage
to the organ itself.

It is a violation of parent’s rights
when they are not told of the unscientific nature
of so-called disorders such as ADHD
or the risks of the treatments
involving drugs like Ritalin.

Did you know that by labeling your child
with ADHD,
you are actually labeling them
with a mental illness?

Did you know that a child
taking psycho-tropic, psycho-stimulant drugs
like Ritalin after the age of 12
is ineligible for military service?

   Why?
   What do they know
that we do not know?

Did you know that the subjective checklists
that are being used as criteria for diagnosis
are very similar to the checklists used to determine
Gifted and Talented Children?

These two checklists are almost
identical.

Ten year-old Shaina Dunkle was diagnosed with ADHD by her school psychologist. Her death was caused from Desipramine used to treat ADHD.

My Dear Friends,
bright children are not passive players
in the game of Life.
They are active.
Such activity is a NATURAL by-product
of high intelligence.

Get on your knees
and Thank God
you have NORMAL, intelligent
and yes, ACTIVE children.
What a Blessing!

Did you know that there are studies
such as the Berkeley Study
that contend that Ritalin and other stimulants
further raise the risk of drug abuse?
Ritalin makes the brain more susceptible
to the addictive power of cocaine
and doubles the risk of abuse.

         Come on Folks!
        Wake UP!

What needs to change
is the academic environment.
It needs to allow for normal active children.

Hyperactive children simply
do not exist.

Most boys are highly active
and for a good reason.
It relates to the survival of the species.
Think about it!

And common LOGIC dictates what is so apparent:
WE ARE A PART OF NATURE
NOT APART FROM NATURE.

Your child is acting normal!
Put him or her outside in the fresh air
with God’s bountiful sunshine
and allow for activity.

Take advantage of the high activity level
and enroll your child in a great sports program.
Wear him or her out on the soccer field
or playing a ball game like baseball
or camping out with a Scout Troop, etc., etc. etc.
Instead of drugging up your kid,
set him up for recognition for his athletic ability.
Take advantage of the GIFT
of being a healthy active HUMAN being.

Don’t bury your loved one in an early grave
because you lack the courage
to say NO!

Don’t just say it,
shout  NO”

There is Beauty in Courage.
There is no need to water the flowers
you place on the grave of your precious child
with your tears.
Tears should be shed only for
joy.

INVITE the uninformed person
who insisted your child become a lab rat
to take the drug instead.
Yes, insist they go on the drug first.
Look into their horrified eyes when they scream,
“What?”

If YOU are not a strong advocate for your child, NO ONE WILL BE. That is why God gave you HIS Child – to shelter the deeply loved from the storms of Life, to protect, to Honor, to serve, and LOVE above all things on this Earth.

And
Love my Friend,
is Courage.

Please take the time to research these substances and have your precious son or daughter removed from them. I would also change my physician. If he or she has taken the convenient and profitable way to medically treat your family, then he or she needs to be removed from service.

Obviously,
the good Doctor has not researched the topic
to the degree enough to reach a compassionate,
reliably informed and reasonable conclusion.

The qualifications of physicians also follow,
like everything else in life,
the bell-shaped curve of probability.
Some are at the lower end of expectations
relative to the awareness of what they do.
Some will write a prescription for anything.
Just be sure to pay the bill
on your way out.

Motor vehicle accidents
claimed 40,100 deaths in 2017,
almost the same as in 2016 when 40,327
were reported.
But, in recent years,
there has been an annual average
of about 400,000 drug related deaths
and serious injuries in a hospital
that could have been prevented (those we know about).

Research estimates up to 440,000 Americans
are dying annually from preventable hospital errors.
This puts medical errors as the
third leading cause of death
in the United States.

Which leads me to conclude
that the most dangerous place in this country
is not on America’s highways,
but in the doctor’s waiting room.

Like Jesus said,
“Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Some truly do not know.

Your
instinctive and abiding Love for your child
allows for insight into what is happening.
Please follow your instincts.
God has given them to you for a reason.
And that reason always points
to His abundant Love for you
and your child.

Your child is perfection,
as are all of God’s children.

Please remove your children from all substances
that tarnish the Will of God.
What is truly needed
is the abundant Love of our Lord
that flows through you.

That is all your children
will ever need.

Goodnight.

Drinking coffee
may stave off depression.

A study of some 50,000 female nurses in the US
over a period of ten years suggests that women
who drank 2 or 3 cups of coffee a day
reduced their risk of depression by 15%
compared with those who drank one cup or less.
And those who drank four cups or more
had a 20% risk reduction.
