William's Weblog – Anderson Private School for the Gifted, Talented and Creative

One Heartbeat Away / Rear-View Mirror Thinking / No School The Week

Dedicated
with my deep admiration
and sincere appreciation to
Richard Fletcher.
While in Boy Scout Troop 17
many years ago,
Richard gave countless hours
of patient counseling and friendship
to this very lost young man
at the time in Life
when it was most needed.
.
He encouraged, guided and enabled me to
continue the struggle with Life
and later
enter broadcasting.
.
I become host of the
Bill Anderson Music Show at KSTB radio
and later, Announcer and News Director at KWKC radio,
Co-Host of the Curtis Stone Soul Show,
(I will share more on this eye opening/awakening chapter later)
and Staff Announcer and Host of the
On The Line” talk show simulcast over
KFMN-FM, KACC and KBLE in Abilene.
These positions in broadcasting
enabled me to work my way through College.

How well I remember
listening to Richard report on the
assassination of President John Kennedy
while tearfully sitting in the High School Library.
His compassionate reporting
inspired me enter the broadcasting profession.

And
when the precious Mother of Don and Billy Graves
asked that I become the Scoutmaster of Troop 57 in Abilene,
since no one was available,
I requested my friend Richard to serve in that capacity until
I became old enough to qualify.
Richard, with me as his Assistant, gladly did so.
Don and Billy continued their Scouting experience
along with many, many others.

And today,
I am very proud of Rev. Donald Graves,
of the Center for Spiritual Living in Tucson,
who delivers powerful messages in dynamic ways:
.

“God is all there is,
so we are by Nature a part of God,
filled with and surrounded by God.”

Thank You
Richard!

May God always
abide with you.
.
Your Life
is truly
a Blessing.

Love,
my friends,
ripples through
time.
It never dies.

You
are one Heartbeat away
from the next moment
in someone’s
Life.

And
the Violin
of your Heart
can play
for an Eternity,
if only
you let it be.

My Dear Friends,
the clutter, noise and superficial busyness
of our Life today
can rob us of enjoyment and the Wonder
of the Beautiful World around us.

Please
take the time
to simplify Living
and reconnect with each other.

Each one of us
possesses the innate desire
to see the Beauty
that surrounds us
more clearly

.A telephone call
to an old friend,
to someone in need
of hearing a caring voice,
offers you a brief vacation.
It offers a new perspective
on what is truly important.

It can unplug you
from the illusions of the moment
and recharge your Heart
in a Beautiful way.

Our way of Life,
our values,
and the Gifts we have been given,
can only be sustained
and passed on to countless
generations,
if we are
giving.

The atmosphere
we create around us
brings out the Beauty of our Being,
with genuine smiles and Loving experience.
Each moment we are gifted
is a precious Pearl
that can be made
truly memorable.

Goodnight.

“It’s not the daily increase
but daily decrease.
Hack away at the unessential”
Bruce Lee
.

My name is Carl Phillips.

After a period of reflection several years ago, I realized I was accumulating more in my life.

More things that didn’t matter.

More commitments I wasn’t truly passionate about keeping.

More friction!

So, I started to take some action.  That action has meant:

In short, the quality of my Life has improved.

I have concerned myself a whole lot less with the need to keep up.  I march (or relax) to my own drum.  I feel happier and like I am on a path of my own setting.

Many of us spend a large part of our lives looking back.

Thinking about how things once were. How fewer lines we had on our faces yesterday.

What we could do, that we no longer can. What we could have done differently, if given time over again.

Choices made, we would like to unmake. How we could have dealt with a situation better. How we could have changed an outcome.

Whilst time for reflection, learning our lessons and trying not to repeat our mistakes are all to be applauded, too much time spent looking to the past means we start to miss where we are now. This rear-view mirror bias will eventually catch up to us.

Regret is never likely to fuel our best selves but can become a constant companion, if we always look back. And all too often, when we look back, we do so with a rose tinted view. Glorifying the past at the expense of today.

The inconvenient truth, yesterday is gone. Last week and last year are even further gone. We’ll never get them back. Moments in time that have now passed.

We can make peace with that or we can fight it. What we cannot do is alter the fact.

Making Peace with Time
What if we focused our energy on the now instead? What if we committed to learn our lessons but worked on making today the best it can be?

What if we let go of the shackles of the past and concentrated on the present? Investing ourselves fully in this moment.

What if we made peace with time?

What if we let go of our rear-view mirror bias?

Let Love Be YOU / Cancer IS Preventable / No School for the next two weeks

Climb the Mountain.
To the high land
reside.
And take someone with you,
someone in need,
to
be
by your side.

My Dear Friends,
the Light of a Star
shines down upon us.
And when darkness falls,
with God by our side,
we will find
our way.
.
A Promise lives
within the Heart
that beats for
everyone
that night has
overcome.
For when we
rise,
we will find
the Sun.

When shadows fall,
the Journey has just begun
to the Light of Day,
to the Time
when night is overcome,
and you rise to see
the Light
of our Beautiful Sun.

“May it be the shadow’s call
Will fly away.
May it be you journey on
To Light the day.
When the night is overcome
You rise to find the Sun.”
Ni B. Eith, Ryan Roma Shane

Love
may pretend to die
in the winter
of discontent.

In blizzards
of emotions
lost,
fragile Hearts may feel
a killing frost.

The shadow’s call will fly away.

But tears of
Joy and of pain
can
become like falling rain
,
to fill an
Ocean
you sail
across,
to bring Love
Home again.

Each breathless word
whispered
by the Sacred Song
of your Life
to help someone,
becomes Music
in each moment
you
are truly alive.

Gently close
your tired eyes
and Dream of Peace
and Pray,
for we
to live as
“One”.

“We danced amongst the Stars that night,
When Joy had fallen far from sight.
We danced under the Sun so bright
And when all seemed lost,
we held on tight.
.
We danced to the music of Hummingbirds.
And we danced in the silence
when there were no words.
We danced in the shadows of fear and doubt.
And we danced when we questioned
what Life’s about.
.
We danced amongst the evergreens
That posed for painters Winter scenes.
We danced in the Winters bitter chill.
And when we danced
our World
stood still.

.
For that’s what Love was meant to be,
To find the dance when we cannot see.
To write a new song when the music stops,
With lyrics that caress every tear that drops.
For when the rhythm changes and tempo slowed,
We’re called to dance with the seeds we sowed.
.
For Life is hard,
there is no doubt.
But Dancing through it,
is what Life’s about.

 – Ernesto Cortazar

Your Immortal Love Song
always remains
in our World.
Absolutely Beautiful
and meaningful.

Yes,
the gentle wind
of words whispered
in the Light of Love,
will be heard
from Above.
Even
on a cold night
in the fragile Life
of someone in need.
.
“For the Beauty of the Earth,
For the Beauty of the skies
For the Love which from our Birth
Over and around us lies.
.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful Hymn of Praise.
For the Beauty of the hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of Light.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful Hymn of Praise.
.
For the joy of Human Love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on Earth and friends Above.
For all gentle thoughts and mild.
  .

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of Praise
For each perfect Gift of Thine.
To our race so freely given
Graces Human and Divine,
Flowers of Earth and Buds of Heaven.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn,
our joyful hymn of Praise
.

According to the American Cancer Society, 41% of ALL adults will develop cancer in their lifetimes… That’s 4 out of 10…or 2 out of 5 people. Read more:

Professor Rosalie David, at the Faculty of Life Sciences, said:
There is nothing in the NATURAL environment that can cause cancer…so it has to be a man-made disease.

A study by University of Manchester scientists has strongly suggested that…cancer is a modern, man-made disease caused by environmental factors such as pollution and diet.

In the extensive study conducted at the University’s KNH Centre for Biomedical Egyptology, scientists examined hundreds of mummies and found…no signs of cancer – with one exception.

The 17th Century Ushers Cancer In

It wasn’t until the 17th century that the first reports of cancer appeared in scientific literature—such as cancer of the scrotum (found in chimney sweeps in 1775, caused by soot particles); and nasal cancer found in users of snuff (finely ground tobacco) in 1761.

The University of Manchester study indicates that cancer – causing factors exist only in modern, industrialized societies – and cancer is fueled by the excesses of modern life.

  1. The food you eat…
    2. the air you breathe…
    3. the clothes you wear…
    4. the water you drink…
    5. personal care products you use…
    6. medications you take…
    7. the water you bathe in…
    8. virtually everything you consume, and
    9. everything you do – or are exposed to –
    causes cancer these days!

Here are Just a Few Factors Present in
Modern Life That Cause Cancer:

  • Tobacco (including second-hand and third-hand smoke)
  • Genetically modified food
  • Most laundry detergents
  • Commercial hair dyes
  • Air pollution (including carbon monoxide, methylene
chloride, and acrolein) Hey, get an all electric car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Granite counter-tops (which emit radon) Yes, My Friend! Get rid of the granite counter tops.
  • Rancid peanuts and seeds
  • Canola oil
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Food laced with pesticides
  • Chemicals from aerosol cans
  • Mammograms
  • X-Rays
  • Food microwaved in plastic containers (including plastic wrap, the plastic trays that come with frozen TV dinners, and even plastic baby bottles)
  • Environmental pollutants (such as asbestos, benzene, and formaldehyde)

There is evidence that cancer is curable. I now believe that what prevents us from ending so much unnecessary suffering and death has less to do with science than with economics. We have research studies, medical reports and inspiring real-life healing success stories to prove it!

  • Unbelievably, what has been exposed is the corruption of the cancer industry and the extreme measures they will undertake to discredit, imprison, and professionally destroy any physician who treats cancer patients naturally.
  • One million Americans are diagnosed with cancer every year, and one person of every three will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes; two of every three will die from their cancer within five years.
  • The average cancer patient spends $50,000 fighting the disease, making the cancer industry a 50 billion dollar per year industry; the medical monopoly is not motivated to find a cure when treatment it is so lucrative.      $   $   $   $   $   $   $   $
  • Many natural treatments have been used successfully with cancer, but the treatments are hushed, buried, and kept out of public view with smear campaigns funded by the medical cartel.
  • Cancer prevention strategies include specific tips for eating, sleeping, exercising and managing stress. To reduce breast cancer risks from light pollution, Prevention magazine recommends nine hours of sleep nightly in a dark room devoid of both interior (computer screens) and exterior (street lamps) light sources. A study of 12,000 Finnish women found that those who slept nine hours nightly had less than one-third the risk of developing a breast tumor than those who slept only seven or eight hours. Even bright light from a trip to the bathroom can have an affect, so dim nightlights are recommended for night lighting.

My friends, until we start electing people to represent US, we the people, and not corporate and financial interests, our deeply Loved ones will continue to suffer indescribably horrible deaths. We must recruit courageous, independent thinking and, most importantly, deeply sensitive, caring and Loving people to represent us. Frankly, these individuals need to Love us more than they Love themselves.

We MUST recruit good people to run for office.

These Loving people exist. I have met a few of them. And you have met them too. At one time in our history we called them patriots. Reach deeply into their Hearts and ask them to make a sacrifice to this Nation, to you and me, to our precious Children. If we do not tap into the vibrant and courageous Heart of this Nation, there is no hope.

Yes, there is another cancer that dwells among us. And it is horrendously sad to recognize, but it resides within our body politic – within the fiber of our society.

And yes, it is a cancer of the Heart, our Heart. My friends, our collective being is slowly being eaten alive by the evil that dwells within.

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil
is that good men do nothing.”
Edmund Burke

The Essence of Love / Things You Can Do For Depression / Friday: No School Today

The essence of Love is awareness.

There are no words
to describe
the Beauty I discovered
in God’s Glorious and Magnificent
World of Nature,
while camping under
the Stars at night,
and hiking through the woods
in the bright, beautiful Sunlight
of God’s Love.

The Beautiful reflections
of the very Blessed past
bring back a tidal wave
of Treasured memories.

To keep Beautiful thoughts
and reflections
in our minds,
is one of the Noblest of pursuits.
Close your eyes
and Pray.
Feel
your Heavenly Father’s Arms
around you.

How Blessed we are.

We all Live
in the Creation of God’s Wonder
and Beauty and Mystery.

Let us
give Him Praise
and Thanksgiving.

Love
is the only reality,

and it is not
a mere sentiment.
It is the Ultimate Truth
that lies at the
Heart of Creation.”
Mohandas Gandhi

The essence
of Love,
is awareness.
.
Love lies in wait,
within
the deeper Power
of our
unconscious state.

The Sacred Tabernacle
of the Human Heart
is capable of
deep intuition.

As it shows us
its own way,
it measures the abyss
which separates us
from the illusions
of Life.

My Dear Friends,
our fragile Heart
is seeking the pathway
of deep
Joy.

Let it be.

Let it be.

Goodnight.

is not something
outside to be discovered,
it is something inside
to be realized.”

From our friends at WEBMD:

Depression

An estimated 19 million American adults are living with major depression. At WebMD you’ll find in-depth depression information including symptoms, medications, and therapy.

Here are some of the things you can do:

Reach Out

Meet a close friend for a walk if you have one nearby. If they’re all too far away, make a call. Talking with someone you care about can help you feel supported and less stressed. Along with lifting your mood, research shows it can strengthen your immune system so your body is better at fighting illness, and it’s good for your heart, too.

Have a Little Dark Chocolate

It has chemicals called flavanols that can make more blood flow to your brain and may help you think more clearly. But don’t overdo it. Chocolate also has fat and calories and lots of caffeine, too. Just a small square of the dark stuff – 70% cocoa or more – 2 or 3 times a week may be all you need.

Play Some Tunes

Music can affect your brain in the same way chocolate does. And when you sing along – it doesn’t matter how well – your brain makes natural painkillers that can give your mood a boost.

Laugh

This can help ease tension in your muscles, and when you breathe in quickly, your heart and lungs get a boost, too. Laughing also makes your brain release chemicals that help your body fight pain and infection. So hunt down some funny clips of your favorite TV show. It’s not goofing off – it’s good for you.

Do a Good Deed

When you do something nice for someone, your body makes hormones called endorphins. These are natural painkillers linked to trust, pleasure, and a connection with other people. Helping others also has been shown to raise your self-esteem.

Hug Your Dog

Just being around your pet can make you feel better. Your body releases a hormone called oxytocin that lifts your mood and bonds you to other living things.
.
On a personal note:
A Dog
is the greatest
Therapist
on Earth!
Wm. C. Anderson

Drink Water

When your body needs water, you can feel tired, cranky, or a little blah. It may even affect your mental sharpness. If you’re not excited about drinking a glass of water, you can get it from food: Fruits and vegetables are good sources.

Go Outside

Not only can it lift your mood, but it also can be good for your blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and stress level. You’ll get even more out of it if you take your dog with you and add in some exercise. At the office, a plant on your desk or a picture of the woods can make you feel less anxious or irritable.

Exercise

You don’t have to sweat it out at the gym. A 10-minute walk seems to lift your spirits just as well as a 45-minute workout. And people who exercise often deal with stress better overall. Invite a friend and do something outside to boost the benefit.

Eat Something (Healthy)

If you don’t eat enough to fuel your day, you can get tired, hungry, and maybe even a little snippy – “hangry.” Just make sure to eat the good stuff: Whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and lean meats have nutrients to feed your brain and perk you up. They also take longer to digest, so you have energy throughout the day instead of all at once. Things like junk food may give you a boost, but a crash may follow.

Meditate

Focus on your breath and try to keep your mind free of thoughts. When a worry enters your mind, try to let it go. It’s OK if you get distracted – the point of meditation is to continue to try. It can calm you down and lift your mood, especially if you
make it a regular part of your day.

Rest

Sleep can ease anxiety and boost your mood and focus – try for 7 to 9 hours a night. If you have trouble going to sleep, keep your room cool, dark, and quiet and don’t watch TV or use the computer right before you turn in. It also helps to go to bed and get up at the same times every day.

Take a Vacation

If you just can’t shake out of it, you may need time to recharge, relax, and take stock. This can help you see all the good things in your life that get lost in the rush of daily routine. It also gets you away from the stress of work or home life and can help you bond with family and friends.

The Years Passed Away Earlier Today / Surprising Benefits of Clean Eating / Spring Break This Week

The Holy Bible
speaks directly to our Human
Hearts,

as it helps us to
understand
the enigmas of Life
and Living.

“Watch over your
Heart

with all diligence,
for from it flow
the Springs of Life.”
Proverbs 4: 23
.
The Holy Word of God
reminds us
of the Songs of our Lives.
How exquisitely Music embraces
the Beauty of Life.
The sounds of violins
and the piano and gentle flute
remind us of the Beauty of rivers and streams,
with grass so green,
and the flowers of Spring
reaching ever upwards
toward our Hearts.
.
The Beauty of God’s Blessings
brought forth
through His Precious Word
and our poignant music,
bring back so many fond
memories,
some made
and others
to be made.

Every Breath
you take
is a Song
you sing.
The Songs
of our Lives
provide the Music
that heals the Soul.
.

They emanate from
Perfection
expressive of the Love
of God.

My Friend,
you are very special.
.
The years
passed away earlier
Today.
And here

you are.
Precious
beyond Belief.
Eternal
in God’s Love
for you.

God never tires
of hearing you
sing the Song
of your Life.

Sensational are both
you
and the singing Angels.

From the beginning
of your precious Being,
the World has changed.
We have changed.
But,

in the air
the Birds are still singing.
.
By the Will of God,
generations
of mathematically impossible odds
conspired to bring
the Masterpiece that is
YOU
to Being.

And into the Setting Sun
will play the Music
of your Life,
as the precious Memory of you
is carried on
to the distant shores
of all the others
who will carry on.

Under
the Shadow
of your healing Smiles,
others will
find shelter
from the storms
of Life.
.
When you Dream
of Heaven,
the Lord is
there.
.
“For God speaks again and again,
though people do not recognize it.
He speaks in Dreams, in Visions of the night,
when deep sleep falls on people
as they lie in their beds.
He whispers in their ears.”
Job 33:14-16

The Journeys of our
brief Lives
travel from our thoughts
and our Dreams,

to the lessons of Life.
They abide
within the uncertainties
that are a part
of imperfect reality.
.
But let us remember
all the Beautiful Love
that God surrounds us with.
Not a day,
nary a night goes by
that you cannot feel Him
in your Heart,
in your Soul.

Venture
into the Beautiful Cathedral
of God,
into the woods,
into His Home,
into your Home.
Go
where the Trees
uplift every Spirit.
.
Slowly
close your eyes,

feel the wind blowing gentle in the breeze,
and imagine Him
wrapping His Arms
around YOU.
.
He is.
.
Whatever is truly Real
is projected
from
your Heart and Mind
and out into the vast and Beautiful
Universe

around us.

Reality
is centered
within.
And there is
a reason –
so is
God.

“Just beyond the thinking mind
is an unending field of Love
and quiet Beauty.
One can lie down there,
and live in Eternity.
This field cannot be seen by the mind,
it cannot be known
by the mind;
it can only be
felt
and found with the Heart.”

Robert Rabbin

Tomorrow
is written by the Prayers
we Pray
today.

“The diversity in the Human Family
should be the cause of
Love and Harmony,

as it is in Music
where many different notes
blend together

in the making of a perfect chord.”
‘Abdu’l-Bahá

YOU
are an incredible work of Art
with a whole World
of your awareness,
created by the essence
of your Eternal
Being.

You
are among the most Beautiful
expressions of Life and Love

ever created in the history of Creation.
.
You
possess the innate ability
to express the highest of ideals
in the Eternal quest for LOVE
in its purest form.
.
You
are an awesome Creation,
a Beautiful epic
in an adventure
of God’s Creation
that is privileged to experience
your Lifetime
in the Beautiful World
He Created
for you.
.
Goodnight.
.
“Feel the Magic
and the wonders of this Beautiful World,

so perfect in every way
of this Creation by the Creator
our Lord God.

We really are lucky to be here
on this Earth,
and be part of this Beautiful World.
We must take care our planet.
It is the Heart of our Soul.”

The Surprising Benefits of Clean Eating

Eating unprocessed food is a great way to improve your overall diet, but proponents say it can also do great things for your mental health.

By Matthew Solan

Erica learned the hard way how food affects her physical and mental health. Ten years ago, she worked in the high-pressure, go-go-go TV industry. Meals were devoured in minutes. Drinking two cans of Coke a day was the norm.

The work stress became overwhelming, and she soon left. But it wasn’t until later that she made the connection between what she ate and how it made her feel.

“I was not happy and my job at that time was no longer rewarding,” she says, “but I came to understand how my eating habits and choices had contributed to that.”

Erica realized that her food choices had aggravated her episodes of stress – and, conversely, that her stress had contributed to poor food choices.

“When I adopted a clean eating diet, where I cut out the processed and comfort foods, I immediately noticed a change not only in my mood, but how I reacted when things went wrong,” Erica says.

“No longer was my instinct to reach for the chips, soda, or ice cream.”

Less packaged, more whole

The term “clean eating” is trendy nowadays.

An entire magazine is devoted to the subject. From TV chef Curtis Stone and Whole Foods co-founder John Mackey to actresses Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba, a slew of personalities and celebrities swear by clean eating.

But what does it mean exactly?

“Without all the excess sugar from processed foods and dairy, I had much less of the mental ups and downs that can happen when faced with daily stress.

“There are a lot of different interpretations, and no one fixed definition,” says

Pamela Fergusson, RD, PhD, a registered dietitian and consultant with Fresh Start Nutrition in Toronto.

“But generally, it refers to eating less processed foods and more whole foods.”

That means food in its natural or near-natural state, with minimal or no added chemicals, additives, or refined sugar. Ideally, what you eat should not be processed, or minimally processed, allowing it to retain high amounts of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients.

One way to approach clean eating is to skip anything that comes in a box, can, or similar packaging.

But there are exceptions.

“For instance, beans come in cans that may add a little extra salt for flavor and preservation, but they are still beans, which are a nutritious whole food,” Fergusson notes.

You can ID processed foods as those that undergo changes from their natural state: think instant oatmeal instead of steel-cut oats, or French fries instead of whole potatoes.

Sound simple?

For the most part, it is.

“Clean eating encourages eating more of the right kind of foods without thinking about low-fat, low-calorie, or low-carb,” says Fergusson.

If you follow a particular eating plan – including a vegetarian, vegan or Paleo diet – you can still incorporate clean eating into your regimen. Just make a point to avoid processed staples.

For instance, vegetarians may enjoy frozen veggie burgers, but they don’t meet the guidelines of clean eating. Vegans may opt for soy cheese, but that’s often made with additives and preservatives.

Food-mood connection

Clean eating can have a positive impact on your mood. Indeed, research is beginning to demonstrate how our food choices—not just what we eat, but what we don’t eat—can influence how we think and feel.

The scientific connection between our brain and food is an intertwining path, but here’s an abbreviated version:

When you get stressed, the body goes into fight-or-flight mode, releasing the hormones adrenal and cortisol to combat the stressful event. This reaction typically suppresses our appetite.

If stress persists, however, and you find yourself in a constant state of worry, anxiety, or prolonged exposure to stressful situations, these hormones overload the body and cause heightened inflammation and negative emotions.

“The worse someone feels, the more likely they will seek comfort,” explains Eva Selhub, MD, author of the books Your Health Destiny, The Love Response and Your Brain on Nature.

“Food can act as that comfort, which is why we call foods high in fat and sugar ‘comfort foods.’”

While it can make people feel better in the short term, comfort food serves only as a temporary fix, Selhub warns.

“You find yourself craving more feel-good foods to help fight the stress,” she says. “High amounts of these trans fats and high-sugar foods can further flame inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain, which creates more mental fog and depression.”

Healthy diet, enhanced mood

While your diet can contribute to stress, it may also control how your brain responds to them.

That’s why the goal of clean eating is to eliminate unhealthy “feel-good” food and replace it with natural choices that can actually promote greater brain health.

Studies have found that people who follow the Mediterranean diet, for example – which includes plenty of whole vegetables and fruits, unprocessed grains, fish, and other seafood – have a 25%-35% lower risk of depression compared with those who follow a typical “Western” diet high in processed and refined foods.

One reason that a diet abundant in natural-state foods benefits your brain and mood is that these foods contain high amounts of antioxidants, which have been shown to not only soothe inflammation and oxidative stress but help prevent it in the first place.

A “sweeter” outlook, naturally

If you battle unhealthy cravings as part of your stress, clean eating is a way to break free from your dependence.

Taylor, co-owner of St. Pete Strength and Conditioning in Florida, turned to clean eating when he became more dedicated to his weight-training regimen.

His approach: stick with foods close to their natural state, which helped eliminate high amounts of refined sugar in his diet.

Taylor says he noticed an almost instant change for the better.

“I’m detailed-oriented, I sweat the small stuff, and I get stressed easily. But the clean eating helps me stay more focused and not get sidetracked with distractions.”

Taylor pointed to cutting out sugar, a feeder of inflammation, as the main factor for his improved outlook.

“Without all the excess sugar from processed foods and dairy, I have much less of the mental ups and downs that can happen when faced with daily stress. I’m much better able to go with the flow,” he says.

Another advantage to clean eating is that it can expand your palate, so you’re not always stuck in a food rut.

“Clean eating encourages eating more of the right kind of foods without thinking about low-fat, low-calorie, or low-carb.”

“Clean eating is more about what you can have rather than what you can’t have,” says Rebecca Katz, MS, author of The Healthy Mind Cookbook.

“You’ll discover that when you eliminate a lot of processed ingredients, you’ll add more fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats that can turn into Technicolor meals full of bright greens, reds, and yellows.”

For her part, Erica discovered the many wonders of kale through clean eating.

“I learned that it was such a nutrient-rich food, and there were many ways to use it,” she says. “I use it in my breakfast smoothie, on lunchtime sandwiches, and as a side dish for dinner.”

Keep in mind that clean eating is designed to be flexible, so your healthy efforts will not collapse if you take a day off. If anything, the mental benefits of clean eating make it easier to rebound without guilt or stress.

“Now if I slip up, even over a few days, I’m aware of it and can more easily get back on track,” says Erica. “I don’t stress about it. That’s what’s so great about making positive change – it stays with you.”

Tips to Get Started

Here are some tips for making the move into clean eating:

Begin with breakfast. It’s a smaller meal and easier to prepare. Replace processed cereal with oatmeal, or a smoothie made with almond milk, greens, and frozen fruit.

Plan your meals. Organize and prep your meals for the week over the weekend. Have your fruits and vegetables chopped and stored in a container ready to go. It’s easier to reach into the fridge and grab what you need than to feel overwhelmed trying to prepare an entire meal from scratch.

Make a sweep of your kitchen. Get rid of processed foods lurking in your cupboards, refrigerator, and freezer. “This frees up space for you to add healthier alternatives that make cooking much more efficient,” says Katz.

Examples of “Clean Eating” Foods

The focus of clean eating is to consume more whole foods in their natural state and to avoid heavily processed foods.

When in doubt, read the label. “The ingredient list should be short and recognizable,” says Katz. “If you can’t say them, don’t eat them.”

Avoid anything with chemical-sounding names or phrases like “artificial coloring” and “flavors.” Here are a few examples of food staples that make up clean eating, according to Katz:

  • Healthy fats such as olive oil, grass-fed butter, and coconut oil
  • Fresh fruitsor canned, frozen, or dried fruit with no added sugar
  • Fresh vegetables—or canned or frozen vegetables with no added sauces or salt
  • Nuts like almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, and walnuts
  • Organic or vegetarian eggs
  • Unrefined grains, like whole-grain wheat bread and pasta, non-microwave popcorn, steel-cut oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice, and whole-wheat flour
  • Canned beans and legumes with little or no added salt (rinsing can reduce sodium by 35%)
  • Plain yogurt
  • Plain nut butters
  • Unsweetened almond or cashew milk
  • Organic or grass-fed meat, including beef and chicken
  • Fresh or frozen fish, including Pacific cod, salmon, and tilapia
  • Herbs and spices such as turmeric, basil, rosemary, cinnamon, and ginger

Cooking Tip

How you prepare your food can also help you eat clean. Stick with flash-cook methods like stir-frying and steaming, which lock in more vitamins and minerals. Avoid high-fat cooking techniques, like deep frying or stewing your food in animal or vegetable fats.

God pours out His Love into my Heart by the Holy Spirit.             – Romans 5:5

Your Life
is a Love Story.

Yes.
The Love of God
dwells within us,
and fills our Human Hearts
with Hope
for Tomorrow,
and
ever after.

Even death
has no dominion
over those who Love,
and are Loved
by God.

“The last enemy
that shall be destroyed
is death.”
1 Corinthians 15:26

My Dear Friends,
because of the Miracle
of your Birth,
and the Birth of God’s Love
deep in your Heart,
you are close
to the Lord,
even when afar.
God
will Love you
and Forgive
no matter where,
or who you are.

“Therefore I tell you,
whatever
you ask in Prayer,
believe that you have received it,
and
it will be
yours
.

–
Mark 11:24

Yes.
Ask
and you shall
receive.

The Bible is filled with ‘Words of Affirmation’ where God verbalizes His love to us.

Whispered
in the Still, Silent Voice
that hovers near
the surface of your Being,
is the Language
of God’s Love.
.
It speaks
from the Divine.
Pure
and Felt,
It reverberates
throughout Time,
immeasurable,
except
by the beat
of your Heart.

The Nobility
of your Spirit
is the Miracle
of the way you are.
It is
Infinite and Everlasting,
for God’s Love
resides in
you.

Such is
the Love of God,
that you could never
embrace it all,
never
comprehend it.

For all of Eternity
we shall wonder
about the Love of God,
and never be able
to fully comprehend it,
for His love is
Infinite.

 “For his steadfast Love
endures forever.”
Psalm 136:1-2

I do not fear death because it’s my doorway to Heaven.                   – 1 Corinthians 15:55

The Sun
rises in your eyes,
and sets
in your Heart.
.
Truth
blossoms in the
whispering wind.
It expresses
the Beautiful vibrancy
that defines Life
and Love.

Leave
what you think
is your home.
Return
to the Nature
from which you came.
Slowly walk among
the Trees
and their leaves.
Listen
to the secrets
whispered
in the wind.

I guard my Heart because it determines the course of my Life.    – Proverbs 4:23

It is nearly
Spring.

A Flower
as fragile
and delicate
as are
we,
will wait patiently
for you.

We are both
deeply Loved
and very, very
Beautiful.

How
do you spell
Love?

It is not
a four letter
word.

Goodnight.

If I don’t stand firmly in my faith, I won’t stand at all.                – Isaiah 7:9

17 Worst Foods For Depression, Stress And Anxiety

As mentioned earlier, simple food choices could make the difference between feeling stable and feeling worse. In this part of the article “Best and worst foods for depression, stress and anxiety”, we will expose some bad foods to avoid when you feel depressed. Check them out below!

  1. Refined Sugar

The first mentioned one among many bad foods for depression is refined sugar. In general, sugar is thought to be linked to an increased likelihood of depression. The reason why refined sugar mat wreck your mood is that it causes the blood sugar level to plummet, causing a sugar hangover which disrupts the mood, depletes the energy. Also, refined sugar is also associated with sleep disorders.

A diet high in refined sugar may increase the levels of inflammation in the body as well as brain. And, inflammation is linked to a higher risk of depression.

  1. Artificial Sweeteners

Actually, aspartame is a not good at all, particularly if you are prone to anxiety and depression. It may block the production of neurotransmitter serotonin – the “happy” hormone within the brain and leads to headaches, mood dips, and insomnia.

  1. Foods With High Pesticides

Those foods grown with heavy pesticide can be bad for your mood as well as well-being. These foods include peaches, strawberries, celery, blueberries, apples, sweet bell peppers, cherries, potatoes, and grapes. It is suggested that if you keep buying these foods, you had better choose organic ones for getting the most of nutritional benefits and least of negative pesticides.

  1. Agave Nectar

Agave is thought as a natural, healthy sweetener, yet that is a myth. According to some experts, agave is not a healthful food because the excess fructose in this food may increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, thereby triggering brain shrinkage and instability of mood as well.

  1. Soda

It is estimated that an average American takes a whopping 600 sodas per year. Those beverages will turn into fat within the body, thereby sending the mood plummeting after an initial rush of glucose.

For a healthy replacement, you could add a little bit of organic fruit juice to the soda water.

  1. Margarine

For many decades, a lot of scientists debated how to define what was better for human beings, butter or margarine. Up to now, the science makes it clear that margarines promote inflammation, which is linked to symptoms of depression. Thus, stay clear from margarine if you want to avoid bad foods for depression.

  1. Processed Pumpkin Seeds

Despite raw pumpkin seeds are healthy, processed ones are not the same. The modern food industry usually coats seeds with the preservative named potassium bromated, blocking iodine from properly being absorbed by the thyroid. In fact, while the thyroid is very important to maintaining positivity and good moods, without appropriate levels of iodine, it could not function properly. According to doctors, the thyroid is considered one of the initial things that psychiatrists check upon assessing an individual with depression.

  1. Caffeine

Stimulants should be avoided if you are looking for the best foods for depression. Caffeine is an underappreciated trigger which may impair your sleep. Sleep deprivation is closely linked to bipolar mood swings as well as mania.

Caffeine may increase anxiety and irritability, not mention to impacting sleeping. It is recommended to avoid caffeine when you are going to bed. Those OTC medications containing pseudoephedrine have noticeable stimulant properties which are similar to caffeine and may trigger the condition of bad mood.

  1. Alcohol

Those people having bipolar disorder and depression should stay away from alcohol, one of worst foods for depression, because it can negatively impact the human mood and interact negatively with some medications like lithium.

  1. Fat

Nutrition experts suggest depressed people limiting their intake of saturated fat as well as trans fat.  It means that they should opt for low-fat dairy products and lean protein upon choosing animal products.

  1. Non-Dairy Creamer

Non-dairy creamer contains partially hydrogenated oils, also known as trans fat, lurking in other ultra-processed foods such as cookies, French fries, mozzarella sticks, and doughnuts. These fats are associated with the impaired blood flow. Reduced blood flow, particularly to the brain is linked to anxiety, depression and other mental health problems. It is reported that those people eating fried foods, high-fat dairy, processed meats and sweetened desserts seem to have a 58% higher risk of anxiety and depression than those following whole food-rich diet.

  1. Pasta

The refined carbohydrates such as white pasta, doughnuts, candy, white bread, and sugary beverages may wreck your own mood by triggering quick spikes in the blood glucose levels. A study conducted by researchers in Columbia University reported that the blood sugar level of a female participant rose after consuming refine grains and sugar, meaning the higher risk of depression.

  1. Tofu

Despite soy is filled of lean protein, it is still a source of trypsin along with protease inhibitors – the enzymes making the digestion of protein difficult. Also, soy is rich in copper, the mineral associated to anxious behaviors and packed with oligosaccharides , which are thought to cause flatulence. That is why eating tofu will make you more anxious, which is not good for depression at all.

  1. Wheat Bran

We all know that wheat bran is rich in fiber, but unfortunately it is considered one of the worst foods for depression due to its notoriously high content of phytic acid. This chemical binds to important mood minerals such as zinc and reduces their absorption. For those anxious people, adequate amount of zinc are particularly important because the deficiency have been shown to induce depression and anxious behavior. To reduce this anti-nutrient in wheat bran, you can soak it before cooking.

  1. Red Wine

Though a glass of beer or vino might temporarily calm anxious mind, it is shown that these happy hours will backfire in the long term. Those people having anxiety disorders who treat themselves with drugs and alcohol seemed to be 5 times more likely to suffer from a dependency issue than those who did not self-medicate.

In the short term, just several drinks of red wine could lead to sleep problems, dehydration and blood sugar swings – all of which you want to avoid when being anxious.

  1. Ketchup

The condiments such as salad dressing or ketchup could be a bad source of high-fructose corn syrup, which, similar to doughnuts and pasta, could lead to anxiety-inducing ups and downs in the blood sugar level. Thus, you should choose low-sugar condiments which do not contain high fructose corn syrup such as hot sauce and barbecue sauce.

  1. Potato Chips

Those potato chips are a favorite snack for many people, especially between winter holidays and football season, indulging in it is not a good option for those with depression. The reason is that these taters are fried up in oils, so they are filled with omega-6 fatty acids which block the brain-building, mood-enhancing omega-3 fatty acids. So, you had better save money as well as your health by making some homemade snacks like microwavable popcorn. In order to have an occasional healthier fix, bake smaller spuds with blue or red skin – the colored skin is jam packed with phytonutrients which benefit your body and mind.

Do these best and worst foods for depression, stress and anxiety surprise you? The connection between diet and depression is very close, but there is no specific diet which has been proven to relieve anxiety and depression. Whilst certain foods or eating plans might not ease your depression symptoms or put you instantly in a happier state, a healthy diet might still help as a part of your treatment. To eat your way to being happier and healthier, you should choose epigenetic foods which promote your wellness, elevate your mood and improve sleep. However, whilst there are good-mood foods, there is still more of that you could do. Create the habit of taking part regularly in physical activities because exercises could enhance your metabolism, boost moods and alleviate tension.
