The Lighter Side of Life / We Are ALL a Modern Work of Art / Sept. 1 We Begin Again

Dedicated to my Wonderful Friend
Rev. Donald Graves
Tucson Center for Spiritual Living

Don and I grew up together
and had so very many
wonderful adventures in
Boy Scout Troop 17.
What
a Truly Wonderful
Friend.

Thank You
for the Beautiful memories.
You are deeply admired
and Loved.

.

“You are the Beloved.
Be sure to treat yourself that way.”
– Rev. Donald Graves

I was recently joking around
with one of our very young students,
something I am wont to do,
(do frequently)
saying:
“Well, you know,
because I”m lazy, fat and ugly.”
At which point he looked intently into my eyes
and quietly said,
“Your not fat.”

I laughed so hard
I lost two pounds.

My Dear Friends,
we need to laugh
at the confusion that prevails
in Life
and in living.
.
It is hilarious!

“Eventually all things fall into place.
Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment,
and know everything happens for a reason.”

Albert Schweitzer

The illogical, superficial,
and unbelievable things we do,
collectively and as individuals
of unbelievable perfunctory indifference
toward the nature of our reality,
can be truly funny.
.

So why not enjoy it?

“Do not take Life too seriously.
You will never get out of it alive.”
Elbert Hubbard

According to Alison Bonds Shapiro,
one kind of humor is based on Love
celebrating the general Joy and goofiness
that comes with being Human.
This is laughing with someone.

.Patrick Allmond tells us
that Children laugh on average 200 times a day
and adults only 26 times a day.
And he states, “How many times a day
do you experience the rich joy of laughter?
If we want to be happier, healthier, and more productive
we seriously need to make time to laugh.”

“Unless you change
and become like little children,
you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
(Matthew 18:3)

                       Where is the average person?

If we can laugh at our mistakes,
and I do mean,
out loud,
we can, in a more positive manner,
effectively take some credit for them,
(here is where you take a bow)
and allow for them to become acceptable
lessons learned on this all too difficult
path of Life.

And you get three guesses
as to who made it so difficult,
and the first two
don’t count!

We are so perfectly and Beautifully
imperfect,
that the result is:
there is simply no one
we can call normal
or average.
(Thank God!)

“Normal
is a setting
on a washing machine.”
author obviously not normal and unknown

silhouette photography of person

I counsel with others,
especially children,
to make at least one mistake
on purpose,
daily.

This creates a highly controlled
learning opportunity.
It admits to our Humanity.
It opens the window
of our awareness.

Children, of all ages,
view it as time for a
great practical joke.

It causes one to
pause to reflect upon
what is really going on.
And ultimately
we learn over the years,
not to take Life so seriously.
Supercilious serious attitudes
lead to stress, strokes,
and striking out.

The lighter side of Life
is also a great adventure
and a broad avenue of opportunity
that may lead to
being on Comedy Central,
finding a new friend,
falling deeply in Love,
or stumbling up to the Altar
and muttering, “I did”
instead of, “I do”.

Creating us
proves to some of us
that God
has a sense of humor.

Perhaps the best indication
is that He created man in His image (Genesis 1:27),
and people are able to perceive
and express humor.

When you think of someone
who has a great sense of humor,
you will usually find this person laughs a lot.
Laughter and a good sense of humor go hand in hand.
And our ability to laugh
comes from God.
It is a great
Gift
.

Abraham Lincoln
used to quip that God had to have a sense of humor
to make us all as we are.

Our God has an absolutely delightful
sense of humor.

“He who sits in the Heavens laughs;
He holds them in derision.”
(Psalm 2:4).

My Dear Friends,
we almost always act like
we are going to survive
this very brief existence.
And the Truth is:
we are precariously
and very briefly perched
upon this Beautiful planet.

.

It opens the window of our awareness.

Live in the moment.

One of my very favorite expressions is:

“Now remember,
We are just a nice normal family”.

You know,
I am always wondering,
where is this normal family?
Where is the average person?

“Normal”
Is Also a Dryer Setting.

We go through Life thinking
I am too short,
Too tall,
Too fat? Too whatever?
Ever get stuck
in a comparison cycle,
pursuing the
unattainable?

Yes we have!

My Friends,
I have news for you:
A NORMAL child
simply does not exist.
That is an illusion.
If not,
please introduce to me to one.
One will be sufficient!
(Now, don’t drag your child up here!
He or she will embarrass you
in a highly abnormal manner.)

“Only ONE person in 6,500
could be credited with achieving true
averageness in every measurable respect.
That person having molded himself into
the nicest, dullest and most proper
freak of normalcy”
for miles around.”

Guy Murchie

Our exceptionality is but one
of one of the things
that make us,
and our lives,
so very interesting
and very, very Beautiful.

We are all a
Modern work of art,
you know,
expensive,
different,
museum quality
and something
no one understands.

.

But can you imagine how dull,
how terminally boring
would Life be
surrounded by a plethora
of normal, average Human beings.
What would we ever talk about?

My Dear Friends,
stop worrying, wondering, and doubting.
Have Faith
that things will work out.
And if they don’t,
well, my fellow Humanoid,
celebrate!
You now have something to talk about,
something to laugh at
and something to think about.
.

“No one knows enough
to be a pessimist.”
Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

.

                                 We all live for Love.

“A hundred years from now
it will not matter
what my bank account was,

the sort of house I lived in,
or the kind of car I drove,
but the world may be different
because I was important
in the Life of a child.”
Forest E. Witcraft

The past,
if left undenied,
can become a thief.
Don’t let the past steal Today.
Today is your property,
your beautiful Gift from God.

You’ve got to Love this life.
If not,
you are probably
going to hate it.

And how do you Love it?

Well,
it’s actually quite simple:
quit thinking so much about it.
And stop thinking about yourself.
Think about someone else!
That’s called Love.
And when you Love others,
they Love you back.
And Life, my friend,
is good to Live
again.

We all live
for Love.

And if you think deeply about it,
Love is the only thing
worth living for.

Yes,
it is that simple.

Now,
go to bed
in a really dark bedroom.
Your body needs to produce
melatonin
to fight cancer!

And tomorrow,
wake up and do more good
than you ever thought possible
for someone else.
And tomorrow night,
you will sleep well,
and wake up the next day
deeply Loved
by someone else,
and
Happy.

“We know
that for those who Love God
all things work together for good,
for those who are called
according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28

Remember,
turn out all the lights,
It needs to totally dark
when you are asleep
to prevent cancer.

Sleeping while exposed to light at night
causes a dramatic drop
in blood melatonin levels,
setting the stage
for growth and proliferation
of breast cancer cells
and other cancer cells.

I Love You.

Goodnight.

To Whom Do We Belong? / What Really Causes Heart Disease / Friday: T. B. A.

Do not
conform to the pattern of this World,

but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind.

– Romans 12:2

I will spread God’s Love to all I know and serve.

To whom
do we belong?

In our Creator’s Love for us
were we made,

longing for belonging,
seeking after the one
to whom we truly belong.

God
breathed Life into Humankind.
Yes,
Adam and Eve’s lungs were filled
with God’s own Being,
His very Breath.

My Dear Friends,
knowing

to whom we belong
goes a long way

in helping us figure out
who we are.

There is a central question
of Life.

Do we belong to
this World,
filled with vain promises,
illusions of grandeur,
and inescapable loss of Life
and everything material
that accompanies it?

Or
do we belong
to God?

“All the lonely people,
where do they all come from?
All the lonely people,
where do they all
belong?”

The Beatles

The Spiritual Awareness
that we
do not belong to others,
or even to ourselves,
but that in Life,
or in death,
we belong to God,
can lead to

a truly authentic and fulfilling
Life,
a Life worth Living.

To see myself as I truly am,
becomes a vision
into the very Heart of Being.
It enables us
to find belonging,
and to discover
Truth and Joy.

“It is the condition of Love,
that as soon as one sees oneself
as Loved,
one starts Loving.”
– St Catherine of Siena

We have to belong
somewhere,
or to someone.
And,
if we really belong
to God,
then we are truly fashioned
in God’s Image.

As we absorb
the Beautiful Knowledge
of our relationship with our Creator,
we outgrow the small things
that clutter our Lives,
and we begin the Blessed Journey
toward the greater,

magnificent, wider World.

Psalm 100:3
reminds us that we belong to God.
The English Bible states:
“Know that the LORD is God –
He made us; we belong to Him.”
The Hebrew original of the last phrase
can be literally translated,
“we are His.”

My Dear Friends,
it is vital to know

the Spirit of God
dwells in
you.

“What gives meaning to Life?”

With a new understanding
of
to whom we belong,
meaning can be made
manifest.

We must know
to whom we belong.
Until we know,
we can never discover
inner Peace.

Understanding ourselves
and our relation to God,
will lead us to
a fulfilling Life.
Belonging to God
is the most we could ever ask
in Life.

Life
is a Beautiful demonstration
of God’s Wisdom and Knowledge,
a very vivid reflection
of His Art and Love.
And when
we serve and keep this
wonderfully diverse and Beautiful world,
we Honor the Creator
to whom it all belongs.

“We belong to God
by surrender and dedication.”
Rom 12:1

To God We Belong
and
To Him We Return.

Goodnight.

“Living in this world with change all around
But with the prophets’ words,
I’ll stand on solid ground.
Even though it’s still hard,
with questions that arise,
Every day I will say:
‘ll have Faith like brother Joseph
and the strength of the pioneers.
I’ll be brave as a strippling warrior
and like Nephi persevere.
I will spread God’s Love to all I know and serve.
I will plead with my Father on my knees:
I will be
what I Believe.”
– Blake Gillette

What Really Causes Heart Disease

The Cure for Heart Disease and The Great Cholesterol Lie.

The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have per-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated – it is quite simply your body’s natural defense to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body?  Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

“Heaven and God are not high above us,
far away;
they are deep within us.
Heaven is not a distant country
where there are trees and houses and other objects;
it is a plane of consciousness within us.
Seekers of the eternal Truth
will realize their eternal Heaven
within their aspiring Hearts.”

The River is WIDE / Common Sense Solutions To Beat Depression / Friday Trip: Museum of Science & History and Omni Theater

“There’s a new World somewhere
They call the Promised Land.
And I’ll be there someday
If
you will hold my hand.”

Tom Springfield

              A new world somewhere.

Stargazers,
are the very
few,

those walking hand in hand.
But they are the ones
who come to understand,
just how wide
the River of Life
truly is,
that the Water of Life
is Love.

This precious River
can overflow

the banks of time
and nourish Life,
as the tide
subsides.

And the Beautiful Melody
of its flow,
can open your Heart
and touch your very
Soul.

If you will hold my hand.

“The river is wide.
I cannot see.

Nor do I have light wings to fly.
There’ll be a boat that can carry TWO,
and both shall row,
my Love and I.”
James Taylor

Only
someone who Loves

discovers real Freedom,
and knows
it is born only in the eyes

of another.
When
you liberate feelings
of Compassion and Love
in the precious Life
of someone near you,
your Sight
no longer turns inside yourself,
to see only the lonely,
and how empty
Life can be.

                      To see only the lonely.

My Friends,
our road leads
to nowhere,
or
we glimpse

Eternity.

One path
lies through the closed
and very narrow
vexations of the mind,
the other,
through a Loving
Heart,
an open door.

What a Beautiful Journey
Life
can be,
when we take it
together,
hand in hand.

Yes,
you can live
in night forever,
never even knowing
you do not
see.

“A Life
without Love
is worse than
death.”
Padre Pio

.
How soon Life

flies,
and all is
gone,
as the Seasons drift by
one by one,

and Life
is quickly done.
But the Human Heart,
YOUR Heart,

is always
young.

If you build
your World
around someone
other,
YOU
come to discover
that you truly
exist.
YOU
finally know
the meaning of
Life.

Love
must be shared,
or it and you,
simply

do not exist.

Goodnight.

“Holding your hand
And standing by to catch you
when you fall,

Seeing you through
In everything you do.

Let me be there in your Morning.
Let me be there in your night.
Let me change whatever is wrong,
and make it right.

Let me take you through
that Wonderland

that only
TWO can share.

All I ask you
is let me be there.”

Low-cost, common sense solutions
to beat depression at its own game.
by

 1. Get a General Health Check
“A true diagnosis is half the cure”
– wise saying.

In some cases, depressive symptoms can be caused by an illness, vitamin defenciency, drug side effect or withdrawal. Common medical causes include underactive thyroid, heart disease, cancer, certain blood pressure medications and even birth control pills.

By getting to the root cause of your depression, you can figure out the best way to treat it and beat it.

Common Sense Tip: Get a general medical checkup and if you are taking any prescription drugs, investigate if depression is a possible side affect.

 2. Eating Right
“Let food be thy medicine
and medicine be thy food”
Hippocrates

Let us not underestimate the power of food to affect mood. Medical studies have linked vitamin deficiencies, such as in Vitamin D and B12, to depression. And that’s just for starters.

Many sufferers of bio-chemical/biological depression may find they also suffer from sugar sensitivities or allergies. In that case, diet can play a vital role in beating depression.

Common Sense Tip: Take notice of how you feel after eating certain foods. Keep a food diary.

 3. Getting Enough Sleep
“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man
healthy wealthy and wise.”
– Benjamin Franklin

A successful psychologist once said that post-partum depression may in fact be another label for sleep deprivation. While it may not be that simple, sleep and depression are closely related.

Lack of sleep has been shown to precipitate psychotic episodes, for example. But does lack of sleep cause depression or does depression cause the inability to sleep? Whatever it is, by getting more sleep, you can start making inroads to improvement.

Common Sense Tip: Go to bed early. If you suffer from insomnia, explore gentle methods of promoting rest like meditation, yoga and massage.

 4. Get your Blood Pumping
Exercise, exercise, exercise.

It took me 3 years after having my youngest child and suffering a bad spout of post-partum depression to make an exercise move. That was the most liberating step I took in all those 3 years, literally. And I saw the results immediately.

Exercise gets your heart rate up, serotonin kicking in and blood sugar cravings, which cause mood swings, down. Oh and I recommend doing it in fresh air with some deep breathing. There’s nothing like nature and some life-energy pulsating through your veins.

Common Sense Tip: Put on your jogging shoes right now and take a walk or run outside. Make a realistic exercise schedule that you can keep up weekly.

 5. The Right Support
“I get by with a little help from my friends
The Beatles

Because depression sufferers tend to socially withdraw or hide their true feelings, it can be a bit of a catch twenty two.

Finding the right person to talk to about how you’re really feeling is a great start to fighting those blue feelings. Whether it’s a trusted friend, psychologist or life-coach – a little step in the right direction can do wonders. Getting out the house, when you’re about to sink into another lazy, self affair episode, is another way to beat depression at its own game.

Common Sense Tip: Even if you don’t feel like it, go out and socialize with your friends on the weekend.

Open your Heart and touch your very Soul.

streams

Listen easy. You can hear God calling, walking barefoot by a stream.                           – Neil Diamond

Love can conquer all,
including the most dangerous psychiatric disorder
in the world and the third most common
chronic disorder among adolescents:
anorexia.

According to Abigail Natenshon, MA, LCSW, GCFP,
There are 11 million victims of anorexia and bulimia
just in American today,
87 percent of whom
are below the age of twenty.

Children as young as age five
are now reported to suffer from anorexia.

My dear parents,
the ONLY way to truly
prevent and heal chronic disease
is to get to the ROOT of the problem.
And Love is a prevention,
and Love is a cure,
and the LACK of Love
is often the cause.

You choose the pathway of life.

You choose the path of life.

 Research has now proven that
Love can cure this serious disorder.
The Beatles, like so many other insightful artists,
were beautifully conveying an Eternal Truth
when they sang,
“Love is all we need”.

Love is a missing factor
in the treatment of many diseases,
according to Walter Last, author of The Love Cure
for Cancer and other Diseases.
With cancer psychological therapy has been shown
to have a far greater success rate
than any other properly evaluated therapy.

Everything in Nature is a Celebration of Life.

Everything in Nature is a Celebration of Life. You are part of Nature. Are you celebrating?

Love is the opposite of fear.

Fear has a major negative impact on cancer patients.
There is also a close relationship between fears
. . . and breathing problems as well as heart disease.

Walter’s insights posit that
the most important factors
in restoring health and well being
are the twins of Love and Joy.

To see the Light in your Life, Look UP.

To see the Light in your Life, Look UP!

Breathing into the Heart

He recommends that whenever you meet someone,
or think of someone, smile and silently say:
“God bless you” while feeling a wave
of love or compassion radiating
from your heart center.

Another source of inspired spiritual insights
are the teachings of Abraham-Hicks.
Here are a few to share with you:
(Interestingly, these insights are
con-substantial with recent discoveries
in the field of particle physics.)

Your Love can spread like a dandelion gone to seed.

Your Love can spread like a dandelion gone to seed.

·        You are a Physical Extension of that which is Non-physical.
The basis of your life is Freedom;
the purpose of your life is Joy.
You
are a creator; you create with your every thought.
Anything that you can imagine is yours to be or do or have.
You are choosing your creations as you are choosing your thoughts.
You are a creator of thought ways on your unique path of joy.
You cannot die; you are Everlasting Life.

Fast food is like WAR:

millions of people suffer and die
because it is very profitable.
We are just collateral damage
on the way to someone’s wealth.

Fresh-Veggies

Miracles can happen.
I happen to know this
because I am a Miracle.
And so are you.
So let’s stop destroying
the Miraculous Blessing
that is Life.

Elanor“It takes courage to love,
but pain through love is the purifying fire
which those who love generously know.
We all know people who are so much afraid of pain
that they shut themselves up like clams in a shell
and, giving out nothing, receive nothing
and therefore shrink
until life is a mere living death.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt

anorexic-3

“A pale dead moon In a sky streaked with gray. Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles with frozen smiles to chase love away.”    – Neil Diamond

According to Mark Hyman, M.D., author of,
“The One Diet That Can Cure Most Disease”
If you are putting in your body toxic, sick, and fat,
processed industrial junk food,
sugar, flour, chemicals, additives, MSG,
high fructose corn syrup, trans fats,
artificial sweeteners, inflammatory foods,
these anti-nutrients act like poison in the body.
They inflame your gastrointestinal system
and your cells
leading to inflammation that you experience
as pain, allergies, headaches, fatigue,
and depression and weight gain, diabetes,
and heart disease.

Getting rid of industrial food, alcohol
(which is the excrement of bacteria – WAKE UP!),
and sugar (the FAVORITE food of CANCER)
and adding whole, real foods will get rid of
most common food allergens and sensitivities.

             There is Beauty all around.

Yes,
the ONLY way to truly heal chronic disease
is to get to the ROOT of the problem.

And to tackle the toughest diseases
is a simple change in diet.

I admit that I am so PROUD
of our students.
I admonish them daily
to stop drinking sugary drinks
and eating poisonous fast foods.
And to my great delight
they are listening
and proudly show me the healthy
lunches they are bringing to school
and ordering delivered.

The Miraculous Blessing that is Life.

Parents,
THANK YOU for your support!
Keep pouring those soft drinks
down the drain.
And when you see a fast food so called restaurant,
the solution is simple,
as Alex so pointedly mentioned –
STEP on the ACCELERATOR
Not the brake!

The moment we're living is now.

The moment we’re living is now.

It seems that the great truths are simple.

My dear friends,
our children listen to us
because they know
we LOVE them.
Love
is the only reason
they
should listen to us.

Listening,
or pretending to listen,
out of fear or intimidation,
will only lead to rebellion
and, for the politically bent,
revolution.

Thoughts of Love flow into the Eternal Sea.

Yes,
you can lead a horse to water.
But you cannot make him drink!

Turmeric
is highly recommended to help
reduce occasional inflammation

stemming from over-use of joints.

Turmeric is on the list
from our friends at Natural News
of top-recommended supplements of all time.
Some of the essential vitamins and nutrients
naturally found in turmeric include:
Vitamin C, Vitamins B-1, B-2, B-3, Calcium,
Manganese, Phosphorous, Potassium, Zinc
and other nutrients.

The antioxidants in turmeric, such as vitamin C and others,
come from active compounds within the spice
called curcumin.
Amazingly, curcumin may deliver antioxidants
which are up to 8 times stronger than vitamin E and vitamin C,
and 3 times more potent
than grape seed or pine bark extract!*
