Worst Cancer-Causing Foods

Over the last several decades, certain foods have been vilified as being potentially carcinogenic, or capable of causing cancer. So which ones are the biggest culprits? And how can you eat to prevent cancer or reduce the chances of a recurrence if you’ve been diagnosed?

The list of potentially cancer-causing foods includes:

Red and processed meat.

— Sugar.

— Alcohol.

— Processed and packaged foods.

Red and Processed Meat

For the carnivores among us, it’s probably tough to hear the news that red meat and processed meat are associated with a higher risk of certain types of cancer. “Red meat is defined as beef, veal, pork, lamb and goat,” says Cathy Leman, a dietitian, personal trainer, nutrition therapist, speaker, writer and breast cancer survivor based in Chicago.

“Processed meat refers to meat that has been salted, cured, fermented, smoked or other processes that enhance flavor or improve preservation,” she adds. Examples include hot dogs, luncheon meats, ham and bacon.

Jeannette Schenk, senior staff scientist in the cancer prevention program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, says “There have been many epidemiological studies that have reported an association with high intakes of processed meat and red meat with an increase in cancer incidence and mortality.”

According to the American Institute for Cancer Research, a high intake of red meat is defined as more than three servings per week. A single serving of red meat is about 3 to 4 ounces — or one small hamburger, steak or a medium-sized pork chop. Your total weekly consumption, the AICR reports, should be under 350 to 500 grams (about 12 to 18 ounces cooked) each week.

The cancer risk associated with processed meat products is even higher. The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a branch of the World Health Organization, classifies processed meat as a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning that like other Group 1 carcinogens — tobacco, UV radiation and alcohol — research has proven that processed meat can cause cancer in humans. Eating just 50 grams of processed meat each day, the IARC reports, can elevate cancer risk by 18%. Four strips of bacon or one hot dog contains about 50 grams of processed meat.

[50+] Landscape Screensavers and Wallpaper on WallpaperSafari

Kailey Proctor, an oncology dietitian with the Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California, emphasizes, though, that the observed connection between meat and cancer “is an association, not a causation,” meaning that we don’t know for sure whether consumption of red meat is causing the cancer directly. Nevertheless, she notes that processed meat products “are processed foods” that should be consumed in moderation, aiming for one serving per week or less.

Why these meats appear to elevate cancer risk, particularly colorectal cancer, is believed to be because red meats and processed meats contain mutagens and carcinogens. Mutagens change genetic information by altering DNA, and carcinogens are cancer-causing agents.

When meat is cooked at high temperatures or grilled, amino acids in the meat interact with the heat to form carcinogenic compounds called heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. “Those have been linked with cancer risk,” Schenk says.

With processed meats, the cancer risk appears to be related to the way the meat is preserved and cooked. Specifically, the addition of preservatives called nitrates and nitrites may elevate cancer risk. Similarly, smoking meats can also create carcinogenic compounds, Schenk says.

Sugar

Sugar is also implicated in the development and progression of certain kinds of cancer. In the early 20th century, a German biochemist named Otto Warburg observed that cancer cells often rely on sugar to fuel their prolific growth. Called the Warburg effect, this process suggests that starving the body of sugar and carbohydrates that can be converted to sugar could theoretically starve cancer cells.

As a result, the ketogenic diet, which reduces carbohydrate intake to 10% or less of calories consumed and increases fat consumption to 70% or more, has been suggested as a way to slow the spread of cancer.

The effectiveness of the keto diet to prevent or slow cancer hasn’t been fully proven, but an association between sugar and cancer has been established. For this reason, “any food which has a very high glycemic index” can increase your risk of cancer and should be consumed in moderation, says Dr. Adil Akhtar, associate professor in the department of medical oncology and hematology at Oakland University-William Beaumont School of Medicine and director of Inpatient Clinical Operations at Karmanos-McLaren Oakland Cancer Center in Michigan.

43 Stunning Landscape Photos

A food’s glycemic index is “defined by the rate at which a food when it’s digested will raise the level of sugar in the blood,” Akhtar explains. Sugary foods, such as soda and candy, have a high glycemic index.

Some experts say that if you’re concerned about cancer, you should eliminate all refined sugar from your diet because many types of cancer cells use sugar as their primary fuel. In fact, some diagnostic tests for cancer use radioactive glucose to pinpoint tumors on PET scans because most cancer cells have such an affinity for sugar that they suck up glucose molecules faster than noncancerous cells can, thus showing themselves on the scan.

Alcohol

Alcohol is actually a type of sugar, so it’s also on the list of foods that can increase your risk of cancer. “Alcohol is an established risk factor for mouth, pharynx, esophageal, liver, colorectal, breast and pancreatic cancer,” Schenk says.

Exactly how alcohol increases risk is not clearly understood, but “it’s possibly related to DNA damage” incurred by the cells after exposure to alcohol, Schenk says.

“In addition, it could be an indirect contributor because calories from alcohol contribute to weight gain.” Alcoholic beverages contribute a lot of excess calories that offer no nutritional benefits, so “it’s one of those added foods that we need to be limiting,” she says.

The federal government’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2020-2025 states that if you don’t drink, don’t start. It also recommends that moderating intake is an important way to curb cancer risk in people who do choose to consume alcoholic beverages.

Moderate alcoholic drinking is defined as one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. A drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 8 to 9 ounces of malt liquor, 5 ounces of wine and 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits.

In her opinion, Leman says that “for cancer prevention, it’s best not to drink alcohol.

Processed and Packaged Foods

Akhtar says certain processed foods can also raise your risk of developing cancer. “Things like microwaved popcorn have compounds that are linked with cancer.” The environmental organization Environmental Working Group raised the alarm about a chemical called PFOA that was used to coat the inside of popcorn bags as a likely carcinogen, prompting the FDA to ban its use in food packaging in 2006.

However, a subsequent EWG investigation suggested that the replacement chemicals (needed to prevent oils in the bag from soaking through the paper) are also potentially carcinogenic and likely contain perfluorinated chemicals. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reports that these chemicals, known as PFCs, may increase the risk of cancer.

Other ultra-processed foods, such as packaged baked goods and snacks, fizzy drinks, sugary cereals, ready meals and reconstituted meat products, have also been linked with an increased risk of certain types of cancer, according to a 2018 study in the British Medical Journal.

The study, which included 104,980 healthy French adults, found that a 10% increase in the proportion of ultra-processed foods in the diet was associated with increases of 12% in the risk of overall cancer and 11% in the risk of breast cancer. No significant association was found for prostate and colorectal cancers.

Ultra-processed food products also tend to be higher in calories, salt, sugar and saturated fats, all of which may contribute to obesity, which is a known risk factor for cancer.

Even seemingly healthy foods, such as farmed salmon, may contain chemicals that might increase cancer risk. The Environmental Protection Agency has classified polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs as probably carcinogenic in humans. This class of chemicals were manufactured from 1929 until they were banned in 1979, but they linger still in the environment. Whether the levels of these chemicals, which enter the food chain from industrial and hazardous waste sites and become concentrated in the feed given to farmed fish, are high enough to cause cancer is still being debated.

If you’re concerned about this risk, Harvard Health suggests removing the skin of the salmon and the fat directly underneath it before cooking, as that’s where the chemicals are most concentrated. Allowing the fat to drain off by grilling, baking or broiling can also reduce risk. Studies have also suggested that lower levels of these chemicals have been identified in fish farmed in Chile and Washington State, so check where your fish is coming from.

How Should I Eat to Avoid Cancer?

While some foods have been associated with an increased risk of certain kinds of cancer, other foods are believed to help reduce your risk. This is where Yael Vodovotz, director of the center for advanced functional foods and entrepreneurship at the Ohio State University in Columbus, is focusing her research efforts.

“Our lab is focusing on foods for prevention,” she says, and they’re investigating the bioactive compounds in food that “potentially can work together for cancer prevention.” (Bioactive means the compound has an effect on cells or a living organism and is used to describe vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other components of food.) In addition, they’re looking to formulate foods or food combinations that can offer a bioactive effect.

In that work, berries have been one brightly colored bright spot in terms of the benefits they can provide. “We’ve studied black raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. A lot of berries have combinations of bioactive properties.”

Soy is another food they’re studying, and while there has been some concern that soy might elevate risk of breast cancer in some people, some studies have shown it could be protective against other kinds of cancer. Look for soy to remain part of the food-and-cancer conversation for some time to come.

Vodovotz also says that green tea, tomatoes, grapefruit and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli have bioactive compounds that are under investigation for their cancer-fighting properties too.

“The idea is to incorporate the whole foods,” she says, instead of extracting a single compound. And finding the optimal combination of foods that give the full balance of cancer-fighting phytochemicals and nutrients is still a work in progress.

Vodovotz also notes that eating too much of any food can have negative consequences. “Foods are all made of chemicals, and if you take in way, way, way too much for a prolonged time, it’s going to be a problem.”

Eat a Balanced Diet

While her work continues determining which compounds can help and which may hurt in the quest to remain cancer-free, Vodovotz says, you can get a jump start by eating a balanced diet. “I’m very big on the USDA’s (U.S. Department of Agriculture) MyPlate plan,” which advocates incorporating lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fiber and lean and plant-based proteins. “I do believe there’s an intimate link between cancer prevention and diet.”

Akhtar agrees, adding that there’s not one specific diet that will solve the cancer question, but he likes the Mediterranean diet for its balance of nutrients, low levels of sugar and focus on whole foods.

beautiful nature photos - Beautiful Nature

“Eat a balanced diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and limits carbohydrates and sugars, he says. “Eat smaller portions of lean meat and healthy fats included in fish, nuts and olives. If you look at the list of different diets, all the healthy diets will have these basic components with a little bit of modifications.”

The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends a mostly plant-based diet for cancer prevention, Proctor says. “Their ‘New American Plate’ model suggests having two-thirds of your plate plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes. The remaining one-third of the plate should be a lean source of protein, such as chicken, turkey and seafood.”

To help curb cancer risk, seek to eat a whole, balanced diet that includes:

— Vegetables and fruits.

— Anti-inflammatory spices.

— Plant-based proteins.

— Fiber.

Vegetables and Fruits

These fresh, whole foods contain antioxidants and a host of other helpful nutrients that keep the body working the way it’s supposed to. In addition to the vitamins, minerals, fiber and “other bioactive components that may directly impact cancer risk,” vegetables and fruits may also “potentially have an indirect impact” on cancer risk, Schenk says. Plus, the more veggies and fruits you eat, the less you tend to weigh, which can also impact your risk of developing cancer given the connection between obesity and cancer.

Adding more plants to the diet is believed to confer some protective benefits against cancer, but it’s also important to note that cancer is about more than just diet. Your genetic make-up, environmental exposures, lifestyle and other risk factors can greatly influence your chances of developing the disease. “It’s important to stress that we don’t yet have 100% cancer prevention through diet,” Leman says. “But we do have strong evidence to use in developing dietary guidelines for reducing risk.”

Leman recommends eating at least five servings (2.5 to 3 cups total) of non-starchy vegetables and fruit daily.

Anti-Inflammatory Spices

Adding turmeric — a bright orange spice found in many Indian dishes — to your diet may help reduce inflammation in the body. Cinnamon and ginger have also been shown to offer anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is a hallmark feature of cancer and other chronic diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, and many doctors and researchers believe that decreasing inflammation can reduce the risk of cancer.

Plant-Based Proteins

Instead of relying heavily on animal products for protein intake, look to plants for protein. Legumes and beans are excellent sources of protein that also contain lots of fiber.

“While it’s not necessary to eat a vegetarian or vegan diet, it’s wise to limit intake of red meat to 18 ounces per week, and enjoy processed meats like ham, bacon and sausage on occasion,” Leman says.

Fiber

Increasing your intake of fiber might also help reduce your risk of cancer, specifically colorectal and gastric cancers, Proctor says. “Fiber also gives us a sense of fullness so we’re less likely to snack between meals, which helps maintain a healthy body weight.”

Leman recommends striving to consume at least 30 grams of fiber daily.

Maintaining a healthy body weight is an important part of controlling cancer risk. “We do know maintaining a healthy body weight is one of the best ways to reduce your risk for cancer. A healthy body weight is considered to be a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m2.” BMI, or body mass index, is a metabolic assessment based on height and weight.

You can calculate your own BMI using the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s online BMI calculator. Aim to stay in the healthy BMI range between 18.5 and 24.9 — being underweight can pose health risks, Proctor says.

Seek Individualized Advice and Support

For people who’ve been recently diagnosed with cancer or who are in survivorship, Leman urges you to seek out individualized nutritional guidance to support treatment outcomes and help manage side-effects of cancer treatments.

“While undergoing active treatment, people often have special nutritional requirements,” she says. “Working with an oncology dietitian for individualized nutritional care and guidance can help patients manage side-effects like nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue and changes in bowel habits.”

And while there’s no one “best diet” for cancer, think about everything you eat in context. Emphasize whole foods, and reduce intake of processed foods and sugars. “We have to consider the diet as a whole. We’re shifting at looking more at dietary patterns versus individual foods with respect to impact on cancer risk and cancer prevention,” Schenk says.

sugar

According to Dr. Edward Group, founder if the Global Healing Center, sugar consumption has steadily risen in recent years and the USDA now reports that the average American consumes around 150 pounds of sugar per year.

Sodas are a major source of refined sugars in the American diet. Energy drinks are close behind, and even fruit juices are working against us. Don’t let the word “fruit” fool you. Some of these fruit drinks are stripped of all nutrients and have more additives and sugar (as much as 90%+) than soda.

                           Sugar Has Many HIDDEN Sources
Around ¼ of the American diet is comprised of refined sugars, and when you take a look at the foods available at most supermarkets, this fact is hardly surprising.

Grocery store shelves are littered with junk foods – some of which are disguised as being healthy – that contain massive amounts of sugar. In fact, some prepackaged sports foods, like energy bars, contain more sugar than a candy bar! What’s more, many foods contain hidden sugar, or sugar that is masked by other names such as high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, and sucanat. read more

High fructose corn syrup was not introduced into the food industry to improve health. In reality, high fructose corn syrup costs less than actual sugar because it is much sweeter than sugar. Food manufacturers use less and earn more. It really is all about the money.

Studies have consistently shown that the consumption of high fructose corn syrup seriously damages the health of vital organs, including the brain. One of the most shocking health effects of high fructose corn syrup is its possible link to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders. The sweetener is often laced with mercury.

The corn industry is spending millions of dollars to keep the science hidden from public view, spreading half truths to protect their hidden agenda: profits. The bottom line is that the bottom line trumps health in the food industry.

Yes,
we are at war
with ourselves.

Medical researchers from all over the world gathered in Madrid late last year at the 11th annual European Nutrition Conference in order to discuss the final results of the five year-long Identification and prevention of lifestyle and Diet induced health Effects In Children and infants (IDEFICS) study.

What was their overall conclusion? Increased physical activity, reduced time in front of television and computer screens, and getting a better night’s sleep, were the most important steps parents could take to ensure their children maintained a normal healthy body weight.  read more

Heart of Pure Gold / The Truth About Sugar / Fall Break This Week

It can be good to be TALL.

Heart of Pure Gold

Eyes give away
What we never say,
That a heart
Can yearn to stay
Like a ship provisioned
And in the harbor,
Rigged and ready
To journey into tomorrow.

But she quits her moorings
And spreads her beautiful white sails
T
o dance with ease
In the morning breeze
And departs for the ocean blue.
Majestic, my Dear Friends,
With her swelling sails,
And waves thrashing
Upon her hull,
Like the beating Heart

In you,
Pounding to get out
The see the world
Too.

To show the way back to the Love.

“Someone at my side says,
“There! She’s gone!” “Gone where?”
“Gone from my sight, that’s all.”
She is just as large in mast and spar
and hull as ever she was . . .
Her diminished size is in me,
not in her.”
And just at that moment . . .
there are other eyes watching her coming
and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout,

“Here she comes!”
– David Marcus

Where you are
May never seem
The place your heart
Longs to be,
And tomorrow
May appear
The last hope
Of today.

“I want to live,
I want to give.
I’ve been a miner
for a heart of gold.
It’s these expressions
I never give,
That keep me searching
for a heart of gold.”
Neil Young

So profound
Can life be,
That our remembrance
Of such deep hunger,
Of our search for meaning,
Our longing to be,
Can in our hard earned empathy,
In our learned generosity,
Enable the heart
To truly see those in need,
And lead me to be
So very, very far beyond
Me.

The place to be happy is here.
The time to be happy is now.
The way to be happy

– Robert Green Ingersoll

There is a Light
In the harbor of our dreams.
It is shinning
For you
And for me,
To show the Way
Back to the Love
That always was,
Always will be,
To the time
When we will meet again,
In the dawn of a beautiful tomorrow
In our Prayers,
In our Dreams.

Love remembers only tomorrow.

In our time of plenty,
More becomes
Less and less,
Until more and more
Leave less than less,
And too much
Of so much more
Becomes nothingness.
And life and living
Become dying and death,
Lost in a haze,
The fog of a war,
So far from won,
That one and one
Is none.

Our children
Do not really need much.
They need Love,
And they need you.
They need you
To walk into a room
And turn on the lights
With a smile.
They need the quiet
Of the night
To be broken
By the whisper of your voice.

They need to laugh.
And yes,
They need to cry,
Tears of joy.
And they need you
To be near
If ever they find
They really need you.

The strength of beginning,
Starting again,
Lies in the forgiveness
Of ending,
Of what brought us
To this.

I know not
if I sink or swim.”

Love seeks not
A knowing
In which it may be,
It remembers
Only tomorrow,
Endures what is
Today,
Is creation of a moment
To be.
Love is all about
Tomorrow,
The beauty of hope
Which shelters us
From the tragic storms
Of today.

It sees as it seeks,
Never truly dying,
Never knowing death,
Never seeing
What had no beginning,
Never ending.

Transparent are we,
And this I am told:
“Look for God
In the eyes
Of one you Love,
To seek a
Heart of Pure Gold.”

The Truth About Sugar
New Science Documentary

I ask you, and your children,
to watch this highly informative documentary.
It can save your life and the life of your precious children.

It can prevent much suffering.

Not that many of us know quite how to quit consuming so much SUGAR or, in fact, what the downsides to a sugary diet actually are.

The Truth About Sugar documentary, aired on BBC One aimed to demystify some of the myths about sugar – namely, what food products secretly contain it – and demonstrate the impact it can make on your health if you reduce the amount you eat.

It charted the lives of four people, who consumed nearly 119 teaspoons of sugar between them a day.

Journalist Fiona Phillips is on a mission to find out the truth behind the recent headlines on sugar. She discovers why some of us have more of a sweet tooth than others, which sugars you can enjoy guilt-free, why there is so much sugar hidden in food you would think was purely savoury and what effect sugary drinks have on the appetite. Fiona also helps four Brits, whose sugar-heavy diets could be putting their health at risk, to change their ways.

From coming up with low-sugar recipes to finding ways to beat the sweet cravings, they will see whether cutting back to the levels suggested by health authorities is really achievable and what the benefits actually are. As the dieters progress on their journey, it soon becomes clear that the transformations will be dramatic.

Thanksgiving is a time of celebration, but for 45 million turkeys across the United States, it is no laughing matter. Turkeys raised for food are bred to grow so quickly that they develop multiple health problems, including heart disease and leg disorders.

They are raised in overcrowded, poorly ventilated ammonia-filled facilities where they endure painful debeaking and detoeing procedures.

Since 1986,
Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project

The Legacy of a Deeply Loved Little Dog / God Answers Prayer / See you next Tuesday

My deeply Loved "Rosie"

My deeply Loved “Rosie”

My precious Rosie passed away on Feb. 1 of this year, at the all too young age of 18 years and one month, the equivalent of 126 human years, so I am told. Our new R.J., or Rosie Junior, is named after Rosie. He was given his name by my friend Ian. We both missed our little Rosie so much, that our hearts cried out for her precious, healing Spirit to live again. So our students traveled to the Fort Worth Animal Shelter to find another precious puppy to save and to love. They selected, with Ian’s approval, our wonderful new friend, “R.J.”

The first photo of little "R.J." taken at the animal shelter.

The first photo of little “R.J.” taken at the animal shelter. Ian, pictured left, is giving very careful consideration to his choice.

The tragedy of our unbearable loss was turned into the realization of salvation for a beautiful new love and a truly great joy.

And now, I wish to share with you another story that possesses a hidden dimension of deep and abiding Love and affection, together with the power of prayer to save life. This story is not about a pharmaceutical. It is a story about the Love of God. And it emanates from the small heart of little dog, rescued literally, on the road of life so very long ago – my little Rosie. read more

Sharing this takes some courage. But I know, within the heart of every creature created by our Lord, there dwells enough Love to light a dark night in the life of someone. And so, in honor of Rosie’s abiding Love, I share with you the following story of her salvation, and mine. There is, my friends, another reason, unknown to you until now, that Rosie lived for so very many years. And I feel that you need to know.

Rosie had cancer. I cannot express to you how heartbroken I was. And so I prayed for guidance. I prayed for anything that would help my deeply Loved little friend. Yes, I still needed her Love. And, I felt that it was not time for her to depart from me. And so I prayed. Yes, I tearfully prayed for a great love in my life, my little dog, my precious Rosie.

My last photo of precious Rosie.

The next day it was time for my annual physical examination. And during this, my wonderful physician of many years, whom I deeply admire, gave me a new prescription for a per-diabetic condition.

My cautionary statements in previous weblogs about Sugar, a type of carbohydrate, and other carbohydrates that come in a variety of forms including, complex carbohydrates and fiber, come from personal experience. If you monitor the amounts of carbohydrates you have throughout the day, optimal blood sugar levels can be achieved in part by controlling carbohydrate portions. read more

Upon leaving the examining room, my Doctor said something quite intriguing. After shutting the door, he cracked it opened again and softly said: “This drug has a beneficial side effect.” And then, he quietly closed the door and left, again. It was almost as if he was sharing a secret!

14-1-1 006

Rosie chaired the counseling department. She was a great listener and always agreeable. Well, maybe not always.

From all the commercials I have survived, I thought prescription drugs only had detrimental side effects! You know, the ads that leave you feeling so good you change the channel, and then forget what channel the movie was on – you take this product and your face falls off, you die but not before suffering and wondering about your ability to use sound judgement, you lose functionality of essentially all biological systems, nausea (always pleasant), vomiting, stomach upset, weakness, dizziness, seizures,  etc, etc. But, hey, your skin looks great!

How about the one for “slow stream” that causes cancer. Or the arthritis drug Vioxx, that may have led to more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before it was pulled from the market. The list just goes on and on and on.

Well, back to my story. I really did not think much about what my Doctor said, or the manner of opening the door again just to give me this message, until I arrived home. It was an intriguing comment, so I placed the name of the new prescription, Metformin, into a search engine. And the Doctor was so right. But more importantly to me, in that instant, I was jolted to an awareness that, perhaps, God was answering prayer, again.

So, then I typed in, “Metformin and Cancer”. So that you may become better informed, I suggest you do the same.

Well, you guessed it, it does not cause cancer, but on the contrary prevents and treats cancer. This is the beneficial side effect my Doctor was referring to. What a truly sad commentary that in this country, it is prescribed only for diabetic and per-diabetic conditions, although it has been well known to treat and prevent cancer.

Perhaps, there is just too much money to be made from the suffering of our fellow Americans. Perhaps, we are witness to one of the greatest sins against mankind. Perhaps. I, too, wonder if money is the root of all evil. And what are we witnessing?

Let me allow the miracle of Rosie’s life to shed a little light in a darkened corner of our recent history.

Rosie

Rosie came into my life at the very moment I needed her – on the way to the funeral of my dear friend, John Hammons.

Metformin belongs to Biguanide class of anti-diabetic drugs and originates from the French lilac (Galega officinalis), a plant used in folk medicine for several centuries.

One of the oldest, cheapest, and most widely used diabetes drugs may be a promising new cancer treatment. In new research from the Mayo Clinic, ovarian cancer patients who took the drug metformin survived longer than patients who did not take it.

The study is just one of dozens under way worldwide examining the drug – which costs just pennies a pill (editorial comment: “and may explain why is not widely known for cancer”) – as a treatment for breast, colon, prostate, pancreatic, and ovarian cancers. read more

So, yes, I decided to share my prescription with my Rosie. (I would have gladly given my little friend the rest of my time on this earth. Perhaps, that is another definition of Love.) And after two weeks, the large tumor on her shoulder simply fell off. My mouth fell open and I had to sit down. And, all of the other small tumors disappeared within another two weeks. I quietly said a prayer of Thanksgiving.

My Rosie continued her life on this earth for several more years. Then, one day, I just knew she was cured. She looked and acted really good. (The photo at the top, when Rosie was about 18 years of age, was taken about the time of this decision.) So I stopped sharing my Metformin. And, after a couple of months, she passed away.

Job noticeI do deeply regret not following my early instincts and continuing the medication. But, in looking back, I now realize just how old she was. She had lived over eighteen years and I was truly privileged to share her Love for a long, long time. But most important, I believe through the Love and Compassion of God, I was given a long time to say goodbye.

By the way, on a follow up visit, and shortly after my decision to share my medication, I told my physician that I was sharing this miracle drug with my dog. He just stared at me for a long time (kind of goes with territory of knowing me), and then, recognizing the fact that she was near death, approved with a nod and knowing look. He acknowledged that he was not a veterinarian, but after much discussion, recognized the anti-cancer properties. He parted with, “Do what you think is in your heart”.  I did.

Marie Anderson

Marie Anderson

The miracle of extending Rosie’s life brought back the memory of being with my Mother, Marie. She was rushed to Baylor hospital when I discovered her near death in 1981. She was admitted, on an emergency basis, for surgery and the surgeon told me just prior to the exploratory operation, “Son, you need to know that it is a 100% probability that she has cancer and that it is terminal”. Such were her symptoms. Her condition was that bad.

I have never prayed like I did on that dark night. During the surgery, I went before God on my knees in the small hospital Chapel. I begged Almighty God for more time to say goodbye. I still needed my precious Mother. I needed more time. And I begged for more. It was a very tearful two hours.

Following the operation, the surgeon looked stunned. As he approached me, I felt as though he should not have the look on his face that I saw. He smiled and then shared with me his astonishment that he could find absolutely no evidence of cancer or anything else. And once again, I felt the Loving Compassion of God in my life.

My Mother lived for another ten years. And I had the time I needed to say thank you and goodbye. And for that, I am to this day, tearfully grateful.

Rosie 2

Yes, Love has been good to me.

I share these stories, and others, so that you may see there is more to this world than we will ever be capable of knowing. Throughout the world, in every walk of life, every faith, every religion, there are similar stories – very, very, many similar stories.

My friends, beneficial properties of this French flower, which possesses a beauty far beyond what we can see, need to be made readily available for the prevention and treatment of Cancer. Please visit with your own physician to discuss this. But prior to your visit, please do the research necessary for your discussion. Print copies of the information you wish to share.

Your Doctor is only human, and a very busy person. Believe it or not, he or she will love the personal interaction with you and the interest you take in such topics. He or she may very well not be that informed on this topic. The Physicians I have met in my life are truly dedicated to what they do. They have all proven to be caring and loving and have my deep admiration and sincere appreciation. And, by the way, they love to talk.

n y times infoAnd I know you do too. (And so do your children.) So here is some basic information about a life saving, and beautiful flower:

Metformin originates from compounds derived from the French lilac (Galega officinalis). The plant has been used since the Middle Ages to relieve the symptoms of diabetes. Upon analysis, it turned out to contain compounds related to guanidine, a substance that decreases blood sugar by mechanisms including a decrease in insulin resistance.

According to the language of flowers, the lilac is often given as an expression of new love or young love. It is an emblem of the springtime of life. Perhaps, the meaning is deeper than we can see.

Metformin and cancer

The potential for application of metformin in oncology was first recognized in retrospective epidemiological studies of diabetic patients with cancer. Numerous observational studies reported decreased cancer incidence and cancer-related mortality in diabetics receiving standard doses of metformin. For example, Evans and colleagues reported a reduced risk of subsequent cancer diagnosis in diabetics receiving metformin (vs those patients not receiving the drug), with the protective effect increasing with greater metformin exposure. Additional studies examining all forms of cancer have reported reduced cancer risk in diabetics on metformin. Computer info

Currently, a number of clinical trials examining the use of metformin as a cancer therapy are underway including studies in prostate, breast, endometrial and pancreatic cancer patients. In fact, the National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group has initiated a large phase III clinical trial examining the effect of metformin versus placebo in over 3,500 women with early stage breast cancer. Coupled with the implementation of new preclinical models, these clinical trials will be integral to the development and effective use of metformin as a potential anticancer therapy. Read more.

Mechanism of action in cancer

The anticancer effects of metformin are associated with both direct (insulin- independent) and indirect (insulin-dependent) actions of the drug. The indirect, insulin-dependent effects of metformin are mediated by the ability of AMPK to inhibit the transcription of key gluconeogenesis genes in the liver and stimulate glucose uptake in muscle, thus reducing fasting blood glucose and insulin.

SIGN stock show 054The insulin-lowering effects of metformin may play a major role in anticancer activity since insulin has mitogenic and prosurvival effects and tumor cells often express high levels of the insulin receptor, indicating a potential sensitivity to the growth promoting effects of the hormone. Further, obesity and high insulin levels are adverse prognostic factors for a number of cancers particularly those of the breast, prostate and colon.

Consequently, metformin may diminish the negative effects of insulin on tumor development and growth. Metformin suppressed the stimulatory effects of obesity and hyperinsulinemia on lung tumor growth in mice by improving insulin sensitivity and lowering circulating insulin. In addition, metformin reduced circulating insulin levels by 22% and improved insulin sensitivity by 25% in non-diabetic women with breast cancer, highlighting the insulin-lowering effects of metformin as a potential mechanism of action in the treatment of breast cancer.

Conclusions and future work with
metformin in cancer

The clinical safety, well characterized pharmacodynamic profile, and low cost of metformin make it an ideal candidate for development as an anticancer agent. The recent convergence of epidemiologic, clinical and preclinical evidence supporting a potential anticancer effect of metformin has led to an explosion of interest in evaluating this agent in human cancer.

My friends, these stories
are not really about a pharmaceutical.

They are about answers to Prayer.
They are about something far more powerful –
the precious Love of God.

And my prayer for you is to go to our Father in Prayer.

Thy Love
Is more than Blessings be,
As I come to know
All hearts are one.
Flowers bloom
From Sacred Seed,
Warmed by the Sun’s Love,
When there is need.

May the Love of God
Abide with you
Always.

The Midst of an Epidemic / Indian Festival and Market

If I create from the heart, nearly everything works,
if from the head, almost nothing.
– Marc Chagall

12-9-20 SUNSET with TREE

Another beautiful sunset viewed from the Anderson School.

An epidemic has washed upon our shores. This epidemic stems from the highly polluted food chain that now exists in America. And profit driven pollution of our food results in the debilitating and deadly disease of Diabetes.

It is, however, preventable and treatable. From CommonSenseHealth.Com we find out “How to Avoid Diabetes and Reverse Diabetes Type 2”  – How do you reverse diabetes naturally? Click here to read article.

The problem is no one’s allowed to tell you that you can usually avoid diabetes and sometimes even reverse diabetes naturally.

Many studies clearly show that avoiding diabetes and actually even reversing early type 2 diabetes is possible. And learning how to avoid diabetes and reverse diabetes naturally is vitally important.

We’re clearly in the midst of a serious type 2 diabetes epidemic.

Dr. Harold Lawrence

Dr. Harold Lawrence spoke with students prior to our trip to the Texas Indian Festival on Friday.

Over 24 million Americans and 300 million people worldwide have type 2 diabetes. And the complications of diabetes are down right scary.

Blindness,

Kidney failure,

Damaged nerves,

Circulation problems,

Leg and foot amputations,

And a high heart disease risk.

Avoiding Diabetes or Reversing Diabetes in Seven Steps

What was once called adult-onset diabetes is now showing up in many more adults and an ever-growing number of teens and children.

But the great news is that learning how to avoid diabetes type 2 and even reverse diabetes is simple. But it takes strong commitment and persistence to make the lifestyle changes that reduce the risk for diabetes.

With the seven simple steps below, you can reduce your chance, and that of your child, of diabetes complications, heart disease and some cancers.

1. Make exercise a priority. Working your muscles with regular physical activity greatly improves circulation and your ability to use insulin and absorb glucose. Studies show that just taking a brisk half-hour walk every day reduces your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 30%. And adding more physical activity during the day reduces your diabetes risk even more.

2. Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight is the major cause of type 2 diabetes. It increases your risk by seven times. Obesity makes you 20 to 40 times more likely to develop diabetes than someone at a healthy weight. But, if you’re overweight, losing just 7% to 10% of your current weight can cut your chance of developing diabetes in half. Healthy permanent weight loss is the best thing you can do to decrease your diabetes risk.

3. Eliminate refined carbohydrates. Sugar, sugary soft drinks, fruit drinks and fruit juice, white bread, white rice, white pasta and other refined carbohydrates cause a fast and furious rise in blood sugar. Eating these high glycemic foods greatly increases your risk of developing diabetes.

4. Focus on plant foods. A diet high in fiber foods, such as colorful vegetables, beans, fresh fruits and 100% whole grains lowers your risk of diabetes and helps keep your appetite and calories under control.

5. Choose healthy fats. The fats you eat affect your diabetes risk one way or another, so it’s important to learn bad fat good fat differences. Fats found in omega 3 fish, such as salmon and tuna, raw nuts, seeds, whole grains and olive oil help to lower your risk of diabetes and heart disease. Whereas trans fats do just the opposite by contributing to diabetes.

6. If you smoke, quit. Diabetes is just one of the many smoking health risks on the long list of health problems caused by tobacco use. Smokers are at least 50% more likely to develop diabetes than nonsmokers.

7. Manage blood pressure and cholesterol. Diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure all damage blood vessels. And when they team up together, they increase your risk for heart attack, stroke and other deadly conditions. But if you exercise regularly, eat for great health and manage your weight, you can lower blood pressure and cholesterol naturally.

And learn all the symptoms of diabetes type 2 and insulin resistance.

Although following these steps for avoiding diabetes type 2 and reversing diabetes naturally takes commitment, focus and persistence, type 2 diabetes and the complications of diabetes are highly preventable.

Reverse type 1 diabetes with a RAW FOOD diet

(NaturalNews) click here for article. Is it possible to reverse type 1 diabetes (T1D, previously known as insulin-dependent diabetes or IDDM) simply by enjoying a raw food diet? According to Dr. Kirt Tyson, a naturopathic doctor who practices in Arizona, eating a diet that primarily consists of raw foods can dramatically reduce blood sugar levels in type 1 diabetics, perhaps even stopping their insulin dependency.

How one doctor stopped his insulin dependence

Dr. Tyson speaks from experience. A former self-proclaimed fast food junkie and a type 1 diabetic himself, he now believes in the amazing power of eating raw.

During an interview with Robyn Openshaw, also known as Green Smoothie Girl and author of “12 Steps to Whole Foods,” he revealed that, prior to starting a raw food diet, his blood sugar level was extremely high (diabetic ketoacidosis) at around 300 mg/dL. Anything above 240 mg/dL is cause for concern.

However, within 2-3 weeks of eating raw foods – nuts, seeds and vegetables with no dairy, meat or fruits – he checked his blood sugar again. The unbelievable result? His blood sugar level dropped to an acceptable, safe range: 76 mg/dL. Today, he says he only needs insulin if he becomes sick (which causes blood sugar levels to rise).

Raw foods: what’s best for diabetics?

The American Diabetes Association’s website lists top super foods for diabetics. Among them are nuts and seeds such as walnuts and flax, as well as vegetables – the darker and leafier, the better. These suggestions align with the raw food diet lifestyle that worked for Dr. Tyson.

Other diabetics following a raw food diet often share their food suggestions in forums. Some of their preferences include:

– Chia Seeds
– Hemp Seeds
– Almonds
– Pecans
– Fenugreek leaves
– Dandelion leaves

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 20 million people worldwide have T1D.

You Can See Forever / Butterflies in the Garden Exhibit

Every thoughtful parent begins life with their newborn child by looking inward, by examining the life they have lived. They want for their son or daughter the things in life that were denied them.

But only by taking time to thoughtfully examine our own attitude toward the real purpose of one’s being, by questioning the reason we are alive and why we exist, can we know what to do for those we love more than life.

We enjoyed our visit to the Military Museum of Fort Worth.

We enjoyed our visit to the Military Museum of Fort Worth.

There are those who think it is not possible to understand our life on this earth. They assume that this existence is, perhaps, unreal. They just exist. They barely survive, and day by day. But this level of awareness is deceptive and illusory and dangerous.

It leads us to believe that life is something to just endure and that death is inevitable – that we are all doomed – that we are controlled by outside forces we do not understand and can never really know – that we have no free will. These forces we attract based on unconscious programming, attracted due to what one fears, not our conscious thoughts.

But I do not accept this blindness. For I can no longer fail to believe in the one thing that gives us sight – and that is the transcendent power of Love.

Alden found many items of interest.

Somerset Maugham said, “Great truths are too important to be new.” And one cherished truth that has been revealed over many years is this: the real purpose of love is to escape death, to perpetuate life. Through the love of one man and one woman, life goes on. For love and life are entwined and beautifully blended together in a Sacred Act of creation, with a beauty far beyond what we can ever comprehend. Love and life are the same. They are one and the same. And knowing this can bring a kind of peace to your heart, that makes life on this earth worth living.

My friends, you can become nothing without love.

But please remember, you too are a child – a Child of God. And His Love is always within you. You know, there is no substitute for love. And the love that resides within your heart is as infinite as the love God feels for you.

If you look deeply into your own heart, you will discover an infinite capacity for compassion and for love for everyone and every living thing. Look long enough, and clearly enough, and you can see forever.

The insightful philosophy of existentialism, which stipulates that since we are all ultimately alone, isolated islands of subjectivity in an objective world, we have absolute freedom over our internal nature – that individual human beings have full responsibility for creating the meanings of their own lives. It postulates that our existence precedes our essence – that the miracle of our being, “outshines every star”. A good example of existentialism in “The Book Thief” is when the story starts with Liesel’s journey to her new foster parents, who live in a suburb of Munich, just around the corner from the Dachau concentration camp. I recommend you view the movie – and take your children with you. Our students truly enjoyed it. The tragic ending reveals another great truth – that hatred will destroy the most beautiful Gift that God will ever bestow.

My friends, you are more beautiful, more miraculous and much more than you shall ever fully realize. Our minds simply cannot comprehend the Divinity that sparked us into being. We can never fully know the depth of Pure Love that formed us into the Transcendent Spiritual Miracles that are you and I. But we can pray for the wisdom to cherish all that we have been given, all that we are, and share our bountiful Blessings of Love with others.

The lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner and music of Burton Lane may help us to clarify the paradoxes that life and love expose. The magic of this musical moment has proven to be a salvation for many seekers of wisdom. My prayer is that it opens up your mind to the hidden country of your heart. click here for song.

“On a clear day
Rise and look around you
And you’ll see who you are.
On a clear day
How it will astound you
That the glow of your being
Outshines every star.
You’ll feel part of
Every mountain, sea and shore
You can hear
From far and near
A world you’ve never heard before.
And on a clear day
On a clear day
You can see forever
And ever
And ever
And ever more.”

UPDATE  ON  SUGAR

People will be advised to halve the amount of sugar in their diet, under new World Health Organization guidance. The recommended sugar intake will be below 5% of total caloric intake. The suggested limits apply to all sugars added to food, as well as sugar naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit concentrates. click here for more

Campaigners say it is a “tragedy” that the W.H.O. has taken 10 years to think about changing its advice. The recommendation that sugar should account for no more than 10% of the calories in the diet, was passed in 2002. It works out at about 50g a day for an adult of normal weight, said the WHO. Now the recommendation is 25g per day.

Have you read some of the latest research on disorders such as MS?

Mayo Clinic neurologist, Dr. Jerry W. Swanson, reports on studies conducted by researchers at the University of Oxford and the New Jersey Medical School. These studies tell us that maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D has a protective effect and lowers the risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS). Another study conducted in the Netherlands at Maastricht University, and other studies, indicate that for people who already have MS, vitamin D may lessen the frequency and severity of their symptoms.

The link between vitamin D and MS is strengthened by the association between sunlight and the risk of MS. The farther away from the equator a person lives, the higher the risk of MS. Sunlight is the body’s most efficient source for vitamin D — suggesting that exposure to sunlight may offer protection from MS.

Today, scientists have concluded that exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) radiation present in sunlight has both beneficial and deleterious effects on human health. The same UV radiation that causes skin diseases can also cure some.

Many diseases and mental disorders are actually caused by a lack of sunlight. In one study the University of Maine found teenage girls are not getting enough vitamin D and as a result, they are at risk for disorders and diseases caused by this nutritional deficiency, including osteoporosis and high blood pressure. Lack of sunlight during the winter months causes a form of depression called seasonal affective disorder or SAD.

Mary Alice can get a little emotional - in a wind tunnel

Mary Alice can get a little emotional – in a wind tunnel.

Lack of sunlight also leads to Rickets and Osteomalacia and an increased susceptibility to a whole spectrum of diseases, such as diabetes. It is known to be associated with various other diseases, ranging from the flu to heart disease and cardiovascular disease.

A lack of awareness about vitamin D deficiency, and the ‘plethora’ of disease it is linked to, is fueling a rise in preventable illnesses among children, according to experts at the Royal College of of Pediatrics and Child Health. The College warned that only one in ten people get enough vitamin D from food and sunlight so supplementation is necessary.

A lack of Vitamin D is associated with a host of autoimmune ailments such as Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroditis. Sunlight also provides resistance power to the skin, by avoiding skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne problems.

And some research finds that it causes 600,000 cancers each year. We now use satellite measurements of sun and cloud cover in various countries, which has led other researchers to point out that increasing levels of vitamin D3 could prevent diseases that claim nearly one million lives each year.

Uh, the uh, seeds were for the birds!

Uh, the uh, seeds were for the birds!

These studies lead me to believe that incarcerating our fellow human beings in prisons, where access to sunlight is denied, constitutes cruel and unusual punishment and is, therefore, unconstitutional. Our sins seem to go on and on in silence. The love and compassion of our society is not seemingly shared with those most in need. And we, the members of this society, ultimately pay an unconscionable price for our simple lack of compassion.

By the way, the Institute of Medicine recommends 600 international units (IUs) of vitamin D a day for adults ages 19 to 70. The recommendation increases to 800 IUs a day for those who are older.

Did you know that play shapes how the brain is wired. In his book, “Play: How It Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination and Invigorates the Soul”, Dr. Stuart Brown describes both the social and biological benefits of play. More play is associated with the kind of brain development that helps us grasp and make sense of information.

Dr. John Ratey’s work goes further, describing how regular physical activity helps aging adults keep their wits. It’s smart business for parents to join their kids in play.

Dr Ratey suggests that we skip the resolutions this year and just play.

Play will improve a kid’s life. Jill Vialet guarantees it. Vialet, who is emerging as America’s Play Laureate with her new young-adult novel “Recess Rules” has given the world a free guide to games. Vialet founded Playworks.

I read this blog to Saffy. She didn't even pretend to stay awake.

I read this blog to Saffy.          She didn’t even pretend             to stay awake.

My friends, so many of the increasing problems and complications our families face are promulgated by our inability to see past our inability to see. We think we know when, in truth, we really need to stop thinking so much.

I can give you many examples of what I am saying. One which surfaces quickly relates to the thought that has gone into the design of new schools, factories and offices. Have you noticed they are now designed to reduce or eliminate sunlight (or as some educators refer to it (are you sitting down?), distractions. You keep sitting while I get more coffee! Now, reflect upon the absolute necessity for adequate exposure to sunlight and you can envision the damage we are doing, unwittingly, to our beloved children and ourselves.

So stop thinking so much. At least long enough to engage your heart and your God given intuition. Parents, you know what your children need. And their needs are really simplistic. They need love, sunlight, play and to be left alone long enough for them to engage their imaginations and allow all that unnecessary and deadly stress to evaporate from their fragile bodies and minds.

In L.A. this hair cut would cost Michael $200.00.

In L.A. this hair cut would cost Michael at least $200.00. The sugary drink will cost a lot more later in life.

Believe it or not, they need your permission to love life and they need to be told, ever day, that you love them. These are the words they will hear over and over again when they close their eyes to rest their weary minds. They need to be held in your arms so they can feel the warm embrace of God. They need to see you laugh. And they need to see you cry.

Osho reminds us that, “Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.” Yes, your children need to see you cry. They need to share in what has been your joy.

Play, sunshine, in moderation, and love, without moderation.

Now there are truly great new year’s resolutions.

Happy New Year!

Please allow me to share some of the Latest Cancer Research in a Release By A. J. Morgan  (2-24-2013)

Did You Know?

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AN ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY

Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells, because they have not reached a detectable size.

Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.

Many gifts in life, like this magnificent sunset, are free!

Many gifts in life, like this magnificent sunset, are free! Take the time to enjoy them, reduce stress and live longer.

When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system. To read the entire research release article from the source, click here.

a. SUGAR is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Note: Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc. are made with Aspartame (just read the label) and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. A better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.

b.MILK causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soymilk, cancer cells will starve.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic. It is best to eat fish and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruit help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells drink fresh vegetable juice and eat raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day.

Wisdom of the Ages

Wisdom of the Ages

e. Avoid caffeine. Green tea is a great alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Drink Water. It is best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires many digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines will become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.

Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

Some supplements build up the immune system:

IP6 (Inositol Hexaphosphate), according to the American Cancer Society, is a chemical found in beans, brown rice, corn, sesame seeds, wheat bran, and other high-fiber foods. Learn how the B vitamin inositol and its derivative IP6 prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis; protect against radiation; lower cholesterol and boosts immunity at ip-6.net.

Pioneering experiments done in Professor A. M. Shamsuddin’s laboratory at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, have shown that not only IP6 extremely safe, but that it and its parent molecule Inositol have anti-cancer and immune-boosting function. Dr. Shamsuddin and his associates’ findings have been validated and expanded by other scientists around the world discovering many more health benefits of IP6 & Inositol.

Excess iron in the body can cause all sorts of problems such as cancer & degenerative brain diseases. IP6 Inositol is unique as it will only remove excess iron & not iron from within your blood cells that is protected by hemoglobin. IP6 will also remove excess calcium & other metallic minerals that our bodies have accumulated down through the years.

Also recommended are Antioxidants – a group of several organic substances, including selenium, vitamins C, E, and A, and a group known as carotenoids. Antioxidants are abundant in fruits, vegetables, grain, and coffee (to avoid caffeine, purchase coffee without caffeine). Coffee, even caffeine free coffee, has 60 antioxidants. Yes, that steaming cup of java is also the number one source of antioxidants in the U.S. diet, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Scranton. Steve Connor, Science Editor, has stated that coffee might soon be considered a health drink, following a study showing it is a surprisingly rich source of anti-cancer agents. (Excuse me, while I pour another cup.)

Antioxidants are compounds in foods that neutralize chemicals called free radicals (unstable molecules), produced by oxidation in the human body. These chemicals have been linked to diseases such as heart and liver disease and cancer.

Oxidant chemicals called free radicals are produced during normal cell respiration. They can also occur when phagocytes, the cells that fight infections, destroy cells infected with bacteria or viruses, with bursts of nitric oxide, superoxide, and hypochlorite; when fatty acids are digested; and when certain enzymes are activated to fight toxins.

Free radicals damage the DNA that makes up our genes, those parts of the cell that control its reproduction. Lesions in DNA give rise to mutations when the cell divides, and these mutations can lead to tumors. (Other causes of DNA lesions and cell mutations include radiation from the sun, exposure to chemicals and the worst of these is tobacco smoke).

Also recommended are vitamins, minerals and EFAs – Essential Fatty Acids are essential because the human body cannot manufacture them but needs them for many important functions to enable the body’s own cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements, like vitamin E, are known to cause apoptosis – programmed cell death – which is the body’s natural method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.

Anger, unforgiving and bitterness put the body
into a stressful and acidic environment.
Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit.
Learn to relax and enjoy life.

Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

My friends, every time you say NO to your child when they want something unhealthy to eat or drink, you say NO to pain and suffering and an incomprehensibly miserable death. Our food chain is so polluted, that it is now almost impossible to eat a healthy meal, especially if you eat out.

Folks, if we are to protect our children we MUST become informed. And we MUST become as tough as nails. The next time you see your beloved child with a toxic so-called soft drink in his or her hands, quickly remove it from their hands, pour it down the drain and give him or her a big hug. Tell that beautiful child of yours that you truly love them and let them know what is in that toxic, cancer causing, diabetes inducing mix of chemicals. Corporations have paid a fortune to find out what they can legally concoct to get your child addicted. And trust me, none of the board members will attend the funeral!

Better yet, visit with your children in-tow, the Children’s Hospital. Volunteer to help and, while you are there performing a truly valued and appreciated service, talk to the children who are patients and visit with their parents. Do this WITH your children present. The impact of seeing the results of nutritional deficiencies and exposure to carcinogens will last a lifetime. No, you will never have to say another word! Truly effective teaching does not involve speaking and preaching. It does require thoughtful and meaningful exposure to the consequences of poor decision making.

There are a very (and I mean, very) FEW restaurants that care about you and your health. May I recommend The Spiral Diners (817.3.EatVeg) (817-332-8834). They are vegan restaurants located in Near Southside Fort Worth, with a second location in Dallas. The Fort Worth location is currently the city’s only vegan restaurant  (visit: spiraldiner.com). The owners of this precious resource have very graciously and knowledgeably presented lessons to our students in the past.

I also highly recommend Greenwood’s Restaurant, located at the end of University Drive, 3522 Bluebonnet Circle, Fort Worth (817.921.6777).  Take the time to get to know Peter & Vlatka Gruenewald and let them know you want a healthy meal. Cooking is a passion to Chef Peter, who began his cooking apprenticeship in 1972 in Offenbach, Germany, culminating in his “Meisterschaft” (master craftsman) chef’s diploma in Frankfurt in 1988.

We have known Peter and Vlatka for many years and I can assure you that cooking truly is a lifetime passion for them, which is why every dish and every ingredient at Greenwood’s is handpicked and made fresh daily. And try Peter’s Hand-Crafted Bread with100% Organic Ingredients!

Most importantly, this charming couple will care about you. Talk to them and let them know you are concerned about your health. They will listen and you will be truly delighted with your meal. This restaurant is one of the most valuable resources you will discover in the Fort Worth area.

Please remember, that every dollar you spend is like casting a vote. When you purchase something toxic, you provide the funding for uncaring corporations to continue their abuse and grow financially at our expense. The dollar you possess is a very powerful weapon in the arsenal of life. Please, for the sake of you and your child, spend it wisely or keep in your pocket!

SHAKESPEARE PRODUCTION SELECTED
BY STUDENTS

Coinciding with the momentous 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, which has been estimated as 26th April 1564, our very own Anderson School Shakespeare Players have voted to perform “As You Like It” at the end of next April.

Students, under the guidance of noted actor and director, George Rodriguez, reviewed other plays including Henry VI, Part Three and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Following vigorous campaigning by Natalie and her counterparts, “As You Like It” won hands down by placing hands up.

Is Sugar Toxic? Does It Cause Cancer?

This news could save the life of your child! And, importantly, eliminate unfathomable suffering.

Allow me to direct you to an article entitled, “Is Sugar Toxic?” that appeared in the New York Times Magazine on Sunday, April 17.

There is now very strong evidence that indicates sugar is not just another food. It is toxic and poisonous. Sugar does very strange and horrible things in the human body.

We have known for decades that sugar feeds cancer. Now we know that sugar actually causes cancer — as well as obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. And sugar is, as you know from observing your children, highly addictive.

In Cancer Defeated, Ty Bollinger has clearly stated the fact that all these problems are really one problem. Ty states that we didn’t know the exact mechanism, but now the picture is coming clear.

Folks, your children should eat fresh, raw foods — but those foods should be vegetables. Fruit consumption should be low to moderate.

It has long been understood that alcohol (one step chemically removed from sugar) is toxic, it immediately affects the brain. It is acutely toxic.” When you drink alcohol, you feel it within a very few minutes. And the real danger with alcohol is that it is subtly addictive – so slight over time as to be difficult to detect. You simply don’t realize the problem until you have it. By then your brain chemistry has been physically altered and you have a disease that kills millions of people each year, many of them innocent victims on our highways.

Excessive, long-term use of alcohol damages your liver. But that’s not the reason it’s heavily regulated. Various levels of government regulate alcohol because of what it does to you within a few minutes, not years.

Dr. Robert Lustig thinks America needs rehabilitation for sugar addiction. According to brain scans, sugar is as addictive as cocaine, the California-based endocrinologist told CBS News’ “60 Minutes.”

It causes a euphoric effect that triggers dopamine, the chemical that controls pleasure in the brain. The average America eats a third of a pound of sugar every day. To read more, click here.

Dr. Lustig tells us that a can of Coke is as bad for your liver as a can of beer. The stress this drink puts on this organ is severe. Soda belly, he says, equals beer belly. You will find 45 grams of sugar, that’s 8 teaspoons, in just one Coke. Want to view a wake-up video? Click here and watch this.

In a related and interesting side-note, the scientist who discovered sucralose (Splenda) was originally trying to create an insecticide. An assistant thought he had been instructed to “taste” a compound he had only been asked to “test”. The prospective bug killer was very sweet!

Drinking one Coke a day for a year results in the consumption of 32 pounds of sugar. Drinking one Coke a day, instead of an equivalent amount of water for a full year would cause your child to gain 18 pounds.

We have been destroying our health for as long as we have been alive, starting with baby formulas.

To quote a recent New York Times article: “One of the diseases that increases in incidence with obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome is cancer. . .The connection was first reported in 2004 in large population studies by researchers from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer. It is not controversial.”

The N.Y. Times quotes Craig Thompson, President of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center:  “I have eliminated refined sugar from my diet and eat as little as I possibly can, because I believe that ultimately it’s something I can do to decrease my risk of cancer.”

Parents, please eliminate refined sugar from the diets of your children. It is something you can do to decrease their risk of cancer and other serious problems. It is not just death that you are dealing with, it is immense suffering.

In ten years Ty Bollinger suspects that most people will think of sugar about the same way they think of smoking. The day is coming. But that day may be too late for your loved ones.

Dangers of Red Bull Drink

The news agency Reuters reports that the popular energy drink Red Bull poses a danger to those who drink it. One can of this stimulant can raise person’s risk of stroke or heart attack. This is seen in young people too.

Red Bull makes the blood sticky; this is a precursor to a range of cardiovascular problems.

Red Bull is banned in Norway, Uruguay, and Denmark.

Last year, 3.5 billion cans of Red Bull were sold globally. Its primary ingredients are caffeine and sugar.
