“I’m here to share a secret;
I am not who I’ve always been.
The World that lies outstretched before me
Is not the only one I’ve seen,
I’ve traveled on the trails of comets,
I’ve burned up in the Hearts of Stars,
I’ve been spat out of Supernovas,
That left me scattered near and far.
I have died in distant Galaxies,
And taught the planets to sing.
I’ve danced for a whole Lifetime
Upon Saturn’s dusty rings.
I’ve been here long enough To learn
what makes the willow weep.
I’ve sung celestial lullabies
That sent the Moon to sleep.
I’ve been both the flowing water
And the stone that blocks its way.
I’ve been frozen, I’ve been molten.
And I’ll be again someday.
Though I’ve been a billion things,
This is the first one that can smile.
I’m pieces of a Universe,
Living as Human for a while.”

30 Craziest Scientific Discoveries
of Our Lifetime

We’ve discovered some wild things in the recent past.

We usually think of scientific discoveries as breakthroughs of the distant past—Isaac Newton’s law of universal gravitation, or Charles Darwin striking on the concept of natural selection. But scientific discoveries are happening all the time, with the world as we understand it being reconsidered and revised every day, often without our even realizing it happened.

That has certainly been true the last couple decades, in which scientists have struck on some surprising findings and changed our view of the world in ways large and small. Here are 30 of them. And for more awe-inspiring facts, check out these 30 Astonishing Facts Guaranteed to Give You Child-like Wonder.

1

A Pluto-Sized Planet

Eris Planet Scientific Discoveries

In 2005, scientists discovered the second-largest dwarf planet in the solar system. With a mass about 27% larger than Pluto (though a diameter slightly smaller), and about three times farther from the Sun than Pluto, it was spotted during routine observations at California’s Palomar Observatory which also found that it had one moon. It was named “Eris” after the Greek goddess. And for more unreal facts about our solar system, check out these 30 Astonishing Facts That Will Make You Doubt Everything.

2

A Super Earth
Planet Earth Scientific Discoveries
Shutterstock

If a dwarf planet doesn’t seem that impressive, how about a “super Earth?” That was a finding by scientists who reported finding a planet about 1.6 times the size of earth, about 200 light-years from Earth that may be able to sustain life. Named K2-155d (not the catchiest title), it revolves around a superhot dwarf star and the researchers believe it may contain liquid water on its surface.

3

Fast Radio Burst

Faraday's Rotation Scientific Discoveries

No, this isn’t a term for short, loud radio commercials. First discovered in 2007, these are quick signals from space, which may be signals coming from collapsing black holes, energy from something called cosmic strings, or even alien messages. As Smithsonian explains, researchers now believe “that the bursts likely pass through a field of magnetized plasma, altering the signal.”

That process, called Faraday rotation, “twists” the polarization of certain radio frequencies in a certain way. Researchers found that the twist on FRB 121102 is 500 times greater than that found on any other FRB, which means the signals had to pass through an incredibly powerful, highly magnetic dense plasma field.

4

Memory Manipulation
Mouse Memory Manipulation Scientific Discoveries
Shutterstock

It seems like a sci-fi movie, but neuroscientists in 2014 figured out how to implant false memories. The duo manipulated a mouse’s brain cells, encoding the memory of receiving a shock when placed in a small metal box. Though it never actually received a shock, when placed in the box, the mouse with the implanted memory reacted in fear. And for more facts to change your perspective, check out these 30 Amazing Facts That Will Change the Way You View the World.

5

Grid Cells
doctor holding a brain Scientific Discoveries
Shutterstock

In 2005, researchers Edvard Moser and May-Britt Moser discovered grid cells in the brain—a kind of neuron that allows us to map out space. The New York Times helpfully explains the significance of these: “Imagine that you are watching a rat running around on a floor completely covered with hexagonal tiles, all the same size. Every time the rat passes the point of one of the 60-degree angles, you press a button to send out an electrical signal. You, in essence, are a grid cell, except that you can see the tiled floor, while the grid cell has no eyes, is buried in the middle of the brain and functions wherever the rat goes, no matter what the floor looks like.” And if you’re on the quest for more knowledge, check out these 50 Amazing Facts for People Who Can’t Get Enough Amazing Facts.

A Computer Chip That Imitates the Human Brain

SyNAPSE Computer Chip Scientific Discoveries

As we move ever closer to The Singularity, IBM helped us take a significant step forward in 2014, with the release of the SyNAPSE computer chip, which simulates the firing of synapses done by a person’s brain (the chip contained 5.4 billion transistors while consuming 10,000 times less power than a more conventional computer chip, all the size of a postage stamp).

“There is the potential here to really open up a spree of tremendous innovation,” Dharmendra Modha, chief scientist of brain-inspired computing at IBM, told The Guardian. He gave the example of a phone that could understand where it is, who is speaking and what are doing.

The Ability to Control A Mechanical Hand With Thoughts

Biomechanical Hand Scientific Discoveries

Like something out of a Marvel movie, Italian amputee Pierpaolo Petruzziello was outfitted in 2009 with a biomechanical hand that connected to his arm nerves with wires and electrodes—and which he was able to control by thinking about it. It was the first time a patient was able to make such complex movements with nothing but their mind.

8

Termite-Inspired Robots
Termites Scientific Discoveries
Shutterstock

Termites usually bring to mind disaster for homebuilding, but a team of Harvard researchers used the cooperative interactions of termites (which build complex soil structures by taking cures from one another and the surrounding environment) as the inspiration for designing robots, equipping them with sensors that allowed them to respond to their surroundings and other robots, without the need for human supervision.

As LiveScience explains, “This type of collective intelligence also means the same instructions can be carried out by a small team of five robots, or a much larger crew of 500, the researchers said. In the future, similar robotic systems could be used for construction projects deemed too dangerous for humans, or for simple construction tasks on Mars, the researchers said.”

9

Strong Evidence of Liquid on Mars

Dark streaks on the planet Mars, disappearing and reappearing depending on the season, were spotted first in 2010 by a University of Arizona undergraduate and is now believed to be the result of flowing, liquid saltwater.

“A big question swirls around the origin of that water: Where is it coming from?” asks National Geographic. “One possibility is that the seeps are fueled by an aquifer or melting subsurface ice. These scenarios would have Mars essentially sweating, with saltwater seeping from its pores and trickling down slopes as the planet warms.”

10

Turning Regular Cells Into Stem Cells

Stem cells are important for health and biological research since they can turn into any other type of cell in your body—white blood cells, nerve cells, you name it. But it was not until 2006 that we learned that any cell can be reprogrammed into a stem cell. That discovery, by Shinya Yamanaka, was a major breakthrough for regenerative medicine.

11

Human Genome Project

Mapping and identifying every gene in the human genome was a massive project with major implications for medicine, biology, and genetics, formally begun in 1990 and completed in 2003, but stretching long before and after.

12

TRAPPIST-1

NASA researchers recently identified a system of seven Earth-sized planets orbiting a single star—three of which were located in the “habitable zone” where a planet is most likely to have liquid water. It was called TRAPPIST-1, named for The Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope.

“This discovery could be a significant piece in the puzzle of finding habitable environments, places that are conducive to life,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the agency’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington, at the time. “Answering the question ‘are we alone’ is a top science priority and finding so many planets like these for the first time in the habitable zone is a remarkable step forward toward that goal.”

13

Gravitational Waves

Albert Einstein predicted in his Theory of General Relativity that mass actually curves space-time, but it wasn’t until 2016 that scientists were able to confirm it, when CalTech researchers observed these ripples—created during what the researchers called a “cataclysmic event in the distant universe”—likely during the “merger of two black holes to produce a single, more massive spinning black hole.” It marked the first observation of gravitational waves and a confirmation of Einstein’s theory a century after he suggested it.

14

The Oldest Art in the World

Through radiocarbon dating, scientists in 2014 determined that cave paintings in the Maros district of Sulawesi, Indonesia were older than previously believed—dating back about 40,000 years. That made its depiction of an ancient “pig-deer” or babirusa the oldest figurative art in the world.

15

Reusable Rockets

That mad genius Elon Musk has found a way to reuse and recycle rockets after sending them into space, landing them safely on a barge in the ocean—saving the billions of dollars it costs to fully replace such technology and taking us a step closer to affordable space travel.

16

Genome Sequencer 20 System

While the Human Genome Project gets much of the attention, the work of Jonathan Rothberg and his 454 Life Sciences biotech company is also plenty important—the effort to make human genome sequencing affordable enough that doctors could use it as a diagnostic tool. It was able to sequence vastly more DNA data for a fraction of the price compared to the previous methods and it helped pave the way for more widespread gathering and use of genetics data.

17

Higgs Boson

Also known as the “God Particle,” its importance is summed up well by Stephen Reucroft of Northeastern University: “Over the past few decades, particle physicists have developed an elegant theoretical model (the Standard Model) that gives a framework for our current understanding of the fundamental particles and forces of nature. One major ingredient in this model is a hypothetical, ubiquitous quantum field that is supposed to be responsible for giving particles their masses (this field would answer the basic question of why particles have the masses they do–or indeed, why they have any mass at all). This field is called the Higgs field. As a consequence of wave-particle duality, all quantum fields have a fundamental particle associated with them. The particle associated with the Higgs field is called the Higgs boson.”

And, to a certainty of 99.999%, it was discovered in 2012.

18

Large Hadron Collider

The reason physicists and engineers were able to find the Higgs boson was that they were using the Large Hadron Collider, the most powerful particle collider in the world, as well as the largest, first tested in 2008 and it has since been upgraded with better detectors and pre-accelerators.

19

Protease Inhibitors

The drug that turned the tide on HIV was first approved in 1996. Protease inhibitors prevent the virus from multiplying by getting in the way of the enzyme that otherwise permits the cells to replicate. These were a major breakthrough at the time and continue to be an important component of managing HIV/AIDS.

20

Cloned Mammal

It was just a little over two decades ago that we first heard of “Dolly the Sheep,” the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell, using nuclear transfer. The woolly creature came from three mothers—one that provided an egg, one that provided DNA, and one that carried the embryo to term—and her birth kicked up plenty of controversy when it was first announced. But she lived a long, by all accounts happy life and produced six lambs of her own.

21

A Black Hole That’s 12 Billion Times as Big as the Sun

The Sun is pretty massive, but it’s got nothing on SDSS J0100+2802. That catchy-named “hyperluminous quasar” that holds one of the most massive black holes in the universe—about 12 billion times the mass of the Sun with a diameter of 70.9 billion kilometers.

“By comparison, our own Milky Way Galaxy has a black hole with a mass of only 4 million solar masses at its center; the black hole that powers this new quasar is 3,000 times heavier,” co-author Dr Xiaohui Fan from the University of Arizona, explained in 2015 when the discovery was announced.

22

Toumai Skull

In 2002, researchers found the oldest hominid fossil yet discovered, in central Africa. The 7 million-year-old Sahelanthropus tchadensis was primitive, but with hominid traits such as a flat face and worn-down canine teeth. It provided insight into a possible common ancestor between apes and humans and fueled the idea that evolution had been occurring throughout Africa, rather than being localized to specific regions, as had been initially thought.

23

RNA Gene Switches

Researchers discovered small RNAs that serve as a kind of genetic switch, bonding to a small molecule and changing its production of proteins. It’s been a major discovery in the fields of genetics and scientists have since developed their own synthetic versions of them.

24

Earth’s Older Cousin

In July 2015, NASA reported that it had spotted Earth’s bigger, older cousin.” Dubbed Kepler 452b, it is 60% larger in diameter than Earth with a temperature similar to our planet’s. NASA described the discovery of the planet and 11 other small planets as a “milestone in the journey to finding another ‘Earth.'”

25

A New Class of Antibiotic

As developments in antibiotics have stagnated and deaths due to antibiotic resistance have risen (to as many as 700,000 globally), the discovery of teixobactin was welcome news when announced in 2015. Through a new method, extracting drugs from dirt-dwelling bacteria, the antibiotic was found to overcome infections that other antibiotics would be unable to.

26

A New Species of Monkey

Who doesn’t love playful monkeys? And who wouldn’t be delighted to learn that there is a new species of monkey in the world? In June 2007, researchers found the species Cercopithecus lomamiensis, more commonly known locally as “lesula,” in central Democratic Republic of Congo—only the second new species of African monkey to be discovered in the past 30 years.

27

Artificial Life

One of the men behind the Human Genome Project, Craig Venter, was also involved in the creation of the first artificial organism—the genome of a bacteria that they created from scratch and is considered the first synthetic life form.”

28

Artificial Womb

Up there with a fully invented life form, is the bag of fluids that imitated a womb and successfully grew a baby sheep last year. The breakthrough eliminates the health risk of pregnancy and presents a more natural environment in which premature infants can continue to develop.

29

Hybrid Vehicles

Electric cars had been plugging along for years, without getting much of a hold in the market—in large part due to their reputation as slow-moving and constantly in need of recharging. The launch of the Toyota Prius early in the 21st century changed the math on this, by leveraging electricity without sacrificing the speed or comfort of gas. The world has since become much more comfortable with electric.

30

Human-Pig Hybrid

This isn’t some kind of Dr. Moreau situation—the human-pig hybrid was developed with a goal of one day allowing us to grow our own organs inside of an animal instead of relying on a donor. Human stem cells were implanted into a pig embryo and removed several weeks later for analysis.                       Mary Hopkin “For All My Days”

“For all my days in many ways
I’ll think of all I’ve lived to see
The mountains high, clouds in the sky
I thank the Lord for sharing them with me.
The summer’s glow, the winter’s snow
Are not to me just scenery
When tree tops sway I long to say
Oh thank you Lord for sharing them with me.
Life I believe, Love we receive
We shouldn’t take too casually.
For all my days in many ways.
I’ll thank the Lord for sharing them with me.”

The Fountain of God’s Truth
is revealed by Love
in all its Glory.
Your Human Heart
can drink at this Fountain
of Joy and Eternal Beauty.

The answers
we seek
are not separate
from the problems.

 The solutions
lie in the understanding
of God’s Love for
you.

The answers are not
outside the problem.
They lie in wait
inside
your Human Heart.

From innumerable complexities
we must grow
 in simplicity.
We must become simple
in our inward Life
and in our outward need.

The end is the beginning of all things.
The answers to our needs
are suppressed and hidden,
awaiting to be released
through the rhythm of
Prayer,
and Communion
with God.

Happiness
comes when we are doing something
because we really
Love to do it

not because it rewards us
with the illusion
of something material.

God is Love,
and Love is God.

Love
cannot be defined or described

by the Human mind.
Love is Eternal,
it is what is truly real,
immeasurable,
and
the answer.

Peace
is of the Heart,
not of the mind.
To know inner Peace,
we must find inner Beauty,
for in understanding Beauty,
we know Love.

Through a narrow window
we can see only part of the sky,
not the whole vastness and magnificence
of God’s Beautiful Blessing.

Look
into all
that your Heart
can be.

And,
the last farewell,
will be a Greeting.
Just wait
and see.

Goodnight.

“Please don’t wake me up too late.
Tomorrow comes and I will not be late.
Late, today when it becomes tomorrow
I will leave to go away.”

Maintaining a Sense of Humor to Cope

Man Laughing With Father During Family BBQ
Hinterhaus Productions / Getty Images

A sense of humor can be an amazing line of defense when it comes to coping with stress. Unfortunately, stress is inevitable and you can’t eliminate it, despite your best efforts. You can, however, better prepare yourself for stress with several coping techniques.

Developing a sense of humor about life’s challenges is a great place to start. A sense of humor will help you to build resilience to stress as well as improve your overall physical and emotional health. It will also enable you to:

  • Bond with others
  • Look at things in a different way
  • Normalize your experience
  • Keep your relationships strong

Luckily, it’s not too hard to develop a healthy sense of humor — but it does require a bit of practice. Here are a few ways to find the funny in Life and better cope with stress.

Start With a Smile

Even if you fake a smile (making the physical shape with your mouth), it can lead to increased happiness (not just looking happier). This is because the act of smiling (real or fake) causes your body to release feel-good endorphins. Plus, a fake smile tends to lead to a genuine one — and this means that laughter will come more easily, and the stress will melt more readily.

Take a Step Back

When you’re in the middle of a difficult situation, it can seem overwhelming. Taking a step back, however, and viewing your situation as an observer can help you see your situation with a new lens. This is called reframing — and it works.

Value the Extremes

If your situation seems ridiculously frustrating, recognize the potential humor in just how ridiculously frustrating and annoying it is. In your imagination, take the situation to an extreme that becomes even more ridiculous until you find yourself amused.

For example, if you are waiting in a long line at the store, imagine that hours pass, then days, visualizing loved ones visiting you in your new home or holding your child’s birthday party in aisle seven…you get the picture.

Recruit Funny Buddies

Social support is a crucial part of stress management.3 Find a friend or group of friends with whom you can share your frustrations and challenges, and laugh about them in the process. Even when your friends are not there, you can lighten your mood by thinking about the retelling that will come later.

Make It a Game

You can have a “most annoying boss” contest with your friends, or try to count how many times the same potentially frustrating event happens in a day. (“I was cut off in traffic seven times today — I’m almost up to 10.”) This works well for predictable or repetitive annoying situations that you can’t control; you can begin to view them in their own special way instead of letting them unnerve you.

Watch Funny Shows and Movies

One of the reasons that sitcoms are so popular is that many of them take somewhat universal situations that people find frustrating and push them a little further to show the silly side of it all.

Realizing that some universally annoying situations are actually funny, can help you endure them with a smile — even if it’s a wry or ironic smile.

Read Funny Books

Reading humorous interpretations of Life can help you maintain a light-hearted point-of-view and find your own style of seeing the world in a different light. Look for an author skilled at finding the humor in Life events, ranging from annoying to upsetting or even tragic. Some suggestions: Dave Barry, David Sedaris, or Jerry Seinfeld.

Practice Relaxation Techniques

Laughter yoga, which combines laughter and intentional yogic breathing (pranayama), is a great way to release stress and get some more giggles into your day.  If this type of class is not available to you, there are other types of yoga and relaxation strategies (meditation, tai chi, deep breathing) to minimize stress so you can build your resilience and your sense of humor.

with the Purpose
of Life.

             Love is a reflection.

In every precious Life
there is heartache
and pain.
But through the Clouds
and the rain,

we CAN see
Love shine
again.

My Dear Friends,
Love can NEVER hide
if you keep looking
for it.
For God’s Love

abides.
And
you may not be aware,
but His Love

is looking for
YOU.

It is here
and there,
and everywhere.
For God is
Love,
and His Love
is all around,
and to be found
in

YOU.

             A Beautiful Encounter.

“Love isn’t Love
‘Til you give it away.”
Oscar Hammerstein

The Love you
share,
you give
to you.
Love
always becomes

a reflection.
And you are
a reflection
of God’s Love.
Your Love
is reflected
in the eyes
of everyone you
come to
Love.

“And, in the end
The Love you take
is equal to the Love
you make.”
Paul McCartney

 You are
so amazingly beautiful!
So Divine.

YOU
are a Heavenly Masterpiece
of Creation.
Angelic,
Glorious
and Divine.

The Heart of the Universe
is Love Divine.
The Mind of the Universe
is God Divine.
And you,

YOU are
Heart, Soul and Spirit

a Treasure
to cherish
and be Loved by God
above all things on
Earth.

           Lift back the curtain.

Surrender
your fragile Heart.
And to whom
do we surrender?

To God.
And
to everyone.

“Surrender your Heart to God,
turn to Him in Prayer,
and give up your sins – even those you do in secret.
Then you won’t be ashamed;
you will be confident and fearless.
Your troubles will go away
like water beneath a bridge,

and your darkest night
will be brighter than noon.”
Job 13-17

My Dear Friends,
Love
will find you.
It has been searching for you.
Look around.
You will see it
in the eyes of everyone,
and every Living thing
you meet.
This
is the Love you felt
on the day
of your Child’s birth,
and
on the day
your were born.
.
The Love of
God
is the only thing
that is real,
that truly
exists.

Lift back the curtain
on a secret World
most of us
have no idea exists.
Do so with patience.
A new perspective
will encourage you to engage
the enigma of Life with Love
in a profoundly personal way.

Be unwavering
in the unconventional task
of coming to know
thyself.

The pangs of insecurity,
the disappointments of Life,
that never truly existed,

will dissolve in your mind
and melt in your Heart,

with your Trust
in the Lord our God.

We are part
of an Infinite Whole,
a Chapter

in a Never Ending Story,
that advances us in Consciousness

and takes us from where we were
before we were Created
by God,
to a new place
in understanding
Love.

As Children of God,
we cannot be explained
in simple terms.
We are Infinitely multifaceted,
fascinating, uplifting,
and Loving.

At the Heart
of your Story
is Love.
And your Author
is our Creator
– God,
who is Love.

Share a moment one day
amidst the wonder
of the Beautiful grasses
and
Flowers of the field,

immersed in the Beauty
of your Nature and the trees,
and the birds and other
Beautiful Creations.
.
Talk with God about
everything
and nothing,
and you.

There comes a point
in every sincere conversation

when you feel a strong and delightful
connection

to something Life affirming,
when you realize
  you are on the wavelength
of True Reality.
At that moment
of realization about Life,
pause,
and let God
into your precious Heart.
Invite Him in.
Say a Prayer
of Thanksgiving
for Life,
for Love,
for THIS moment.

He is listening
to your every Prayer,
and He is Loving
every moment
you spend with
Him.

There is a Beauty
  in these moments
that defies any explanation.
Later,

  you will come to recognize
the synchronous intensity
of the moment,
a moment you granted
to God.

And the Stranger Within
Is No More.

Goodnight.

Essential Reasons to Eat Organic Food

Organic food was the only option for thousands of years.  Now, with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and genetically-modified foods, organic is still the best option.  Here are 17 reasons to eat organic food:

  1. Genetically-modified foods were unleashed on the environment and the public by corporations like Monsanto without prior testing to determine their safety.  In other words, eating genetically-modified foods (which most people in in large amounts) is participating in a long-term, uncontrolled experiment. Choose organic to avoid participating in this experiment.
    .
  2. More and more research is coming in about the health threat of genetically-modified food.  The results range from intestinal damage, allergies, liver or pancreatic problems, testicular cellular changes, tumors, and even death in the experimental animals. For more information, read the excellent books by Jeffrey M. Smith Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette. I’ll discuss more of the problems linked with GMOs in upcoming blogs. Eating third-party certified organic foods or those that are guaranteed to be grown from organic seed helps protect you from the health consequences of GMOs.

4 Potential Health Risks of Eating GMO Foods

  1.  Fruits and vegetables are real food, not pesticide factories. Eighteen percent of all genetically-modified seeds (and therefore foods that grow from them) are engineered to produce their own pesticides.  Research shows that these seeds continue producing pesticides inside your body once you’ve eaten the food grown from them! Foods that are actually pesticide factories…no thanks.
    .
  2. They’re free of neurotoxins – toxins that are damaging to brain and nerve cells. A commonly-used class of pesticides called organophosphates was originally developed as a toxic nerve agent during World War I. When there was no longer a need for them in warfare, industry adapted them to kill pests on foods. Many pesticides are still considered neurotoxins.  Learn more about pesticides in The 4-Week Ultimate Body Detox Plan.
    .
  3. They’re supportive of growing children’s brains and bodies.  Children’s growing brains and bodies are far more susceptible to toxins than adults.  Choosing organic helps feed their bodies without the exposure to pesticides and genetically-modified organisms, both of which have a relatively short history of use (and therefore safety).
    .
  4. In study after study, research from independent organizations
consistently shows organic food is higher in nutrients than traditional foods.  Research shows that organic produce is higher in vitamin C, antioxidants, and the minerals calcium, iron, chromium, and magnesium. (For more information, check out The Life Force Diet).
    .
  5. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that pesticides pollute the primary drinking source for half the American population. Organic farming is the best solution to the problem. Buying organic helps reduce pollution in our drinking water.
    .
  6. Organic food is earth-supportive (when big business keeps their hands out of it). Organic food production has been around for thousands of years and is the sustainable choice for the future.  Compare that to modern agricultural practices that are destructive of the environment through widespread use of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers and have resulted in drastic environmental damage in many parts of the world.
    .
  7. Organic food choices grown on small-scale organic farms help ensure independent family farmers can create a livelihood. Consider it the domestic version of fair trade.
    .
  8. Most organic food simply tastes better than the pesticide-grown counterparts.
    .
  9. Organic food is not exposed to gas-ripening like some non-organic fruits and vegetables (like bananas).
    .
  10. Organic farms are safer for farm workers. Research at the Harvard School of Public Health found a 70% increase in Parkinson’s disease among people exposed to pesticides. Choosing organic foods means that more people will be able to work on farms without incurring the higher potential health risk of Parkinson’s or other illnesses.
    .
  11. Organic food supports Wildlife Habitats. Even with commonly used amounts of pesticides, wildlife is being harmed by exposure to pesticides.
    .
  12. Eating organic may reduce your cancer risk.  The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60% of herbicides, 90% of fungicides, and 30% of insecticides potentially cancer-causing.  It is reasonable to think that the rapidly increasing rates of cancer are at least partly linked to the use of these carcinogenic pesticides.
    .
  13. Choosing organic meat lessens your exposure to antibiotics, synthetic hormones, and drugs that find their way into the animals and ultimately into you.
    .
  14. Organic food is tried and tested. By some estimates genetically-modified food makes up 80% of the average person’s food consumption. Genetic modification of food is still experimental. Avoid being part of this wide scale and uncontrolled experiment.
    .
  15. Organic food supports greater biodiversity.  Diversity is fundamental to life on this planet. Genetically-modified and non-organic food is focused on high yield monoculture and is destroying biodiversity.

Why is Coffee Good For You?
Here Are 7 Reasons
By Kris Gunnars, BSc
To read full article click here

In recent years and decades,
scientists have studied the effects of coffee
on various aspects of health
and their results have been nothing short of amazing.
Here are 7 reasons why coffee
may actually be one of the
healthiest
beverages on the planet.

1. Coffee Can Make You Smarter

The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, which is a stimulant and the most commonly consumed psychoactive substance in the world. Caffeine’s primary mechanism in the brain is blocking the effects of an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine.
By blocking the inhibitory effects of Adenosine,
caffeine actually increases neuronal firing in the brain
and the release of other neurotransmitters
like dopamine and norepinephrine.

Many controlled trials have examined
the effects of caffeine on the brain,
demonstrating that caffeine can improve mood, reaction time,
memory, vigilance and general cognitive function.

2. Coffee Can Help You Burn Fat
and Improves Physical Performance

There’s a good reason why you will find caffeine
in most commercial fat burning supplements.

Caffeine raises metabolism
and increases the oxidation of fatty acids.

3. Coffee May Drastically Lower
Your Risk of Type II Diabetes

Type II diabetes is a lifestyle-related disease
that has reached epidemic proportions,
having increased 10-fold in a few decades
and now afflicting about 300 million people.

In observational studies,
coffee has been repeatedly associated with a
lower risk of diabetes.
The reduction in risk ranges from 23%
all the way up to 67%.

A massive review article looked at 18 studies
with a total of 457,922 participants.
Each additional cup of coffee per day
lowered the risk of diabetes by 7%.
The more coffee people drank,
the lower their risk.

4. Coffee May Lower Your Risk
of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s

Not only can coffee make you smarter in the short term,
it may also protect your brain in old age.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common
neurodegenerative disorder in the world
and a leading cause of dementia.

In prospective studies,
coffee drinkers have up to a
60% lower risk
of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Parkinson’s
is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder,
characterized by death of dopamine-generating neurons in the brain.
Coffee may lower the risk of Parkinson’s by 32-60%.

5. Coffee May be Extremely Good
For Your Liver

The liver is a remarkable organ
that carries out hundreds of vital functions in the body.

It is very vulnerable to modern insults
such as excess consumption of alcohol and fructose.
Cirrhosis is the end stage of liver damage
caused by diseases like alcoholism and hepatitis,
where liver tissue has been largely replaced by scar tissue.

Multiple studies have shown
that coffee can lower the risk of cirrhosis
by as much as 80%,
the strongest effect for those
who drank 4 or more cups per day.

Coffee may also lower the risk of
liver cancer
by around 40%.

6. Coffee May Decrease
Your Risk of Dying

In two very large prospective epidemiological studies,
drinking coffee was associated with
a lower risk of death by all causes.

This effect is particularly profound in type II diabetics,
one study showing that coffee drinkers
had a 30% lower risk of death during a 20 year period.

7. Coffee is Loaded
With Nutrients and Antioxidants

Many of the nutrients in the coffee beans do make it into the final drink, which actually contains a decent amount of vitamins and minerals.

ONE cup of coffee contains:

6% of the RDA for Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5).
11% of the RDA for Riboflavin (Vitamin B2).
2% of the RDA for Niacin (B3) and Thiamine (B1).
3% of the RDA for Potassium and Manganese.

May not seem like much,
but if you drink several cups of coffee per day
then this quickly adds up.

But this isn’t all.
Coffee also contains a massive amount of
antioxidants.

In fact,
coffee is the biggest source of antioxidants
in the western diet,
outranking both fruits and vegetables combined.

Even though coffee in moderate amounts is good for you,
drinking way too much of it can still be harmful.

To make sure to preserve the health benefits,
don’t put sugar
or anything nasty in your coffee!
If it tends to affect your sleep,
then don’t drink it after 2 p.m.

If anything, coffee may literally be
the healthiest beverage
on the planet.

And so, My Friends,
instead of allowing your children
to drink deadly and addictive soft drinks,
why not introduce them to something healthy?
Yes,
like coffee.

Nothing is Separate from Anything Else / Truths About Living In an Illusion / Shakespeare – Thursday and Friday

To be In the warm embrace
of a Loving Heart,

and feel God’s Love
all around,
is as near
to Heaven
as one can be

on this Earth.

“When you live
from the Heart,

you begin to touch into
the Universal experience of Love.

LOVE is the source of everything
the fabric which makes up
our very existence.”
Dr. Gail Brenner

The existence of a
Universal Consciousness,
tells us
that nothing is separate
from anything else.

Universal Consciousness
is intelligent, Loving,
all knowing, all powerful, creative
and omnipresent across all dimensions
of space and time.
And so, it is also present
in you
– or more accurately,
it is YOU.

There is no separation between your mind
and the Universal Mind,
or the Unified Field, God, Source, Creator,
the One, Universal Consciousness
or the many names that Humans give
to things we are trying to understand.

Universal Consciousness
is an Infinite, Eternal
ocean of intelligent energy.
The nature of
Universal Consciousness
is your nature.

Truths About Living In an Illusion

                                           by Vernon Layne

Here are common truths
that you’re living in an
ILLUSION:

1. You see the present through your past. Your past plays an important role in your life.  It’s there to teach you what you could have done differently or what you need to continue doing. THAT’S ALL.  It’s not there for wallowing in or condemnation. We fall short of His Glory so it’s important you learn to give yourself a break.
Let go of your past and not become its prisoner then it will be easier for you to put things in its proper perspective.

2. You believe you can control things that are uncontrollable.  Stop trying to control people and situations. One of life’s most important lessons is learning to give up the illusion of control. You may wonder how you suppose to give that up, but the fact is you were never in control. The moment you think you’re in control is the moment you’re out of control.

3. You only see the bad in yourself and others. If you ask someone to list things about themselves most will list liabilities. People have a hard time seeing the good within themselves.  Not finding the good in you makes it impossible to see the good in others.

man living an illusion

4. You believe everything you feel and think. Imagine being judged inaccurately by two people who don’t know you. Believing everything you feel and think is just like listening to two people gossip. Your feelings aren’t facts. Don’t believe everything you think and feel because they can influence you to make unwise decisions. Learn to make decisions from facts and not feeling.

5. You search for fulfillment through things. The only person you can’t run away from is yourself. There’s nothing wrong with trying to get things in life but don’t lose yourself in the process by not understanding why you’re doing it. When the chase for things becomes more important than your family and your health, then it’s a destructive rush that’s causing harm. Most of the time you’re trying to fill a void or block a feeling when you’re searching for fulfillment in things.

6. Your self-worth comes from social media. All your life you wanted to belong and fit in, so you spend a lot of time on social media– yet never quite measuring up. The more likes you get the better you feel. The reality you need to hear and afraid to admit is when you’re not getting those likes you think you should be getting, you feel down almost depressed. Depending on social media to feel relevant is an illusion many people believe.

7. You think your happiness is your mate’s responsibility. It’s not fair to your mate when you expect them to be responsible for your happiness. They’re there to add to your happiness. It’s your responsibility to see that you’re happy. It’s not healthy and it doesn’t work when one partner isn’t responsible for his own feeling, thoughts and actions.  A healthy relationship is when a couple can grow in unity while at the same time growing as individuals, so take ownership of your own happiness.

8. You’re convinced everything supposed to go your way. Self-centeredness is at the core of self-deception. It can create an illusion that you’re right and the world is wrong base on a feeling or an idea. You began to see yourself as a victim. Understand that everyone experiences life challenges and that you’re not the only one. To see things clearly bring your attitude in line with reality.

9.  You think you don’t need help. Most people, myself included, believed at some point in their life that they could do it all by themselves. This kind of thinking doesn’t work very well. The only guarantee you will get is being frustrated and exhausted.

We are here to help and support one another. Your life will be enhanced when you’re able to see people as a gift from God. Take the time and get to know the gifts God have given you by learning to trust others, reaching out to others, and admitting your need for others.

10. You believe you can’t change. It’s important to examine this false belief because it may not be yours. You could have picked it up from your parents. I know this may sound a little harsh but some parents tell their children self-defeating things. Not all illusions come from you. Some are created by others.

11. You think your success is because of the work you’ve done. Don’t become a legend in your own mind. As you begin to experience success in life it’s important to give credit where credit is due. Selfishly claiming what belongs to God is the quickness way to lose it all. Pride usually comes before the fall so give the Glory to God.

12. You feel you’re alone. I call this the ultimate illusion. The next time you’re by yourself look around you. Feel the air. Go outside and watch the squirrels chase each other. Look up and see the clouds move gracefully. God’s presence is all around you. You are never alone.

“Foolish dreamers
live in a world of illusion;
