The Aspirin – Cancer Link

Taking a low-dose aspirin daily is a common prescription for those at high risk for heart attack and stroke. Research within the last few years is pointing to another possible benefit of aspirin.

When taken regularly, it may also help reduce your risk for certain cancers, particularly colon and gastrointestinal cancers. The benefits, however, may still not outweigh the risks. Check with your Doctor.

In 2012, world-renowned aspirin expert Professor Peter Rothwell of Oxford University and colleagues published three studies in The Lancet journal that suggested that if you are middle-aged, taking a low-dose aspirin every day could slash your risk for various cancers in as few as 2 to 3 years! According to Rothwell, taking an aspirin a day may also help to prevent an existing localized cancer from metastasizing (spreading to other parts of the body), a finding that holds promise for current cancer patients who may likewise receive some benefit from supplementing with aspirin.

A study published this year in JAMA Oncology showed that taking a low-dose aspirin every day may lower your risk for colon cancer by 19%, your risk for gastrointestinal cancer by 15% and your overall cancer risk by 3%. The benefits appeared after 6 years of supplementation.

Senior researcher Dr. Andrew Chan, from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston explained: “That makes sense, because cancers don’t typically develop overnight. They take years to develop, so you would have to take aspirin for a long time to prevent cancer.”

According to Chan, aspirin impacts particular biological pathways that can cause cancer. Aspirin also helps to lower inflammation and possibly limit the number of cancer-causing proteins in the body.

The study analyzed data from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, which followed 130,000 men and women over 30 years. While no link between aspirin and a lower risk for breast, prostate, or lung cancers was found, data did seem to suggest that when aspirin was taken 2 or more times a week it might prevent 17% of colon cancer diagnoses for those not screened with a colonoscopy, and 5-8% of colon cancer cases for those who are.

What lives within
can fill the endless yearning
of another Soul,
a Heart to mend,
to heal and console.

“To live a Life,

Neil Young

Our annual Shakespeare theatrical production is under way.
We are proud of George Rodriquez, Director,
as he works diligently with our students in the always difficult task of preparing them for a full evening
presenting the enduring work of
William Shakespeare.

Shakespeare is always challenging,
but we engage our scholars in the difficult study and presentation of his work for several reasons.

First, because it is difficult!
Children need to be challenged. And they need to meet scholarly challenges with guidance, patience and ultimate success. The pride they feel after a successful presentation on stage can be literally felt for the rest of their lives. And it is a pride that can be shared with family and friends. Our children share the pride of their accomplishment and rightfully so. And our pride is seeing them excited about learning and, more importantly, coming to love the beautiful and intoxicating language of Shakespeare is beyond what we can express.

Second, because it is so Beautiful.
The scope of Shakespeare’s work and the depth of his understanding of the human condition and perilous philosophical dilemmas faced by mankind is breathtaking.

Third, because it is necessary.
The difference between a highly educated person and one that is not well-educated is phenomenal. Anyone living in this country who is not familiar with Shakespeare, and other notable playwrights, is in sufferance of a significant disadvantage. Not only will he or she be remedial as a college bound student, but acutely deficient in social situations and professional endeavors.

Fourth, because an understanding of this absolute pillar of western civilization is essential in enabling and empowering our young children. They cannot be prepared to lead this country and their communities and families without an exposure to the essential and fundamental tenants of our history and literature. Where else are they going to gain the insightful wisdom and privileged introduction to ideas so fundamental to forming broad perspectives and balanced judgment. If we, as a civilization, do not allow our children to gain access to the wisdom of the ages, we shall doom the next generation to the narrow minded thinking and painful mistakes of the past. History will surely repeat itself if our historical tolerance of ignorance remains the same and our expectations are always low.

Cell Phones and Cancer

The World Health Organization
has classified cell phone radiation
as class B carcinogen.

Dr. David Carpenter,
Dean at the School of Public Health
State University of New York,
believes that up to 30% of all childhood cancers
are associated with
electromagnetic (EMF) radiation exposure.

Cell phones emit high levels
of electromagnetic radiation
directly into your head,
actually heating it up in the process.
There is increasing amounts of scientific evidence
linking this to brain cancers.

Multiple recent studies,
including international scientists,
are urging governments to place stricter regulations
on cellphone use,
particularly due to the latest outcome
of their investigations:
Young people who use cell phones
before the age of 20
are five times more likely
to be at risk for malignant brain tumors
than children who do not use mobile phones.

Researchers of the 2012 Bioinitiative Report
agree that approximately ten years of cell phone use
may lead to tumors.
There are significant studies that directly correlate
RF radiation from cell phones with brain tumors.

read more on cell phones and birth defects

Studies report that:

The chance of developing a brain tumor
goes up as much as 40%
after a decade of cell phone use.
Yes people are 5 times more likely
to develop a brain tumor
if they began using a cell phone before the age of 20.
People have twice the risk
of developing the cancer known as “Glioma”,
if they use their cell phones for half an hour a day
for more than a decade.

People using cell phones for 2000 hours
have 240% greater risk for malignant brain tumors.

A significant report was released in 2009
by the International EMF Collaborative,
a team of international EMF scientists and activists,
entitled “Cell Phones and Brain Tumors:
15 Reasons for Concern, Science, Spin
and the Truth Behind Interphone”.

read more on children and cell phones

Another study by an Israeli research group
found that there’s recently been a sharp 4-fold increase
in malignant tumors of the parotid gland
on the side of the face
the cell phone users generally hold the phone.
Parotid tumors have historically been very rare
and have shown up in people after the age of 50.
Most cases since 2001 have occurred
in people under the age of 20.

Cordless land line phones
emit high levels of EMF radiation
and can be even more dangerous than cell phones!
And usually we speak longer on cordless phones

More than 31 million children use cell phones daily –
close to four hours a day.
Cell phone radiation danger to children
is especially of concern,
as children absorb 50% more radiation than adults do,
because their skulls are thinner and smaller,
and EMFs penetrate much more deeply into their brains.
Their brains are more conducive to radiation
due to the higher water and ion concentration
in a developing brain.

Many health symptoms
due to cell phone radiation
show up early on and may precede
more serious disorders and diseases.

They include:

  • Chronic colds & flues
  • Headaches and “mind-fog”
  • Digestive disorders
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Memory Loss
  • Depression/anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • Dizziness

Brain cancer has now surpassed leukemia
as the number one cancer killing children,
and many scientists believe
this is directly linked to the exponential increases
in cell phone use
and other wireless devices.

One of the most comprehensive studies
testing the cell phone – cancer link on children
was conducted by Professor Lennart Hardell in Sweden.
The results of the study indicate that
children and teens
are 5 times more likely to get brain cancer
if they use cell phones.

A study conducted in 2009
by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt
on autistic children
and their mothers during pregnancy
shows significant results,
strongly suggesting that:

electromagnetic radiation
in the sleeping environment
of the mothers during pregnancy,
as well as electromagnetic radiation
in the sleeping environment of children,
may be a key contributing factor
if not a causative one –
in neurological impairments in children,
including autism.”

We stand on the edge of a deepening sea, widening sky.

Deep and abiding reflection

you may have never met,
someone
you thought
you really knew,
a person
you did not know
was you.

My Dear Friends,
we stand on the very edge
of a deepening sea, widening sky,
as our precious Hearts whisper,
longing to send
an Infinite message of Life and Love,
to paint a Rainbow
without any end.

The science fiction,

in ourselves and in each other,
in the future of Life
condemned to be brief.

we may cause blades of grass

grass ever green

names never made known.
And no one will ever knell

in proclamations of proclivities

The very edge of never asking why.

My Precious Friends,
I wish to share with you
an unbelievably LENGTHY list of
KNOWN and POSSIBLE
things that cause CANCER.
Please take the time to study this list!
We are at war with ourselves.
Yes,
the enemy is us.
Our lifestyle and
our society
and corporate greed
have caused this
horrendous condition.

We can look down
on the pathetic depths
to which corporate America
has led us in order to
make money.

But enough
is enough.

Millions of our Loved ones,
neighbors,
and fellow citizens
have perished in misery.

Please ARM yourself
with the knowledge
you and your precious children
NEED to survive.

Compare these two lists
with the labels on the products
you wear, drive with, eat,
sleep and sit on, breathe, live and work with,
allow into your home, on your yard or
in your car –
anywhere in your presence.

When you find items made with
these horrible products
THROW  THEM  AWAY!

There is NO need to die a
miserable and painful death.

To avoid a future far worse
than you can imagine,
get smart, get educated, get busy, get involved and
read ALL the labels.
You have the strength and wisdom
to get rid of the garbage
polluting your life
and the very precious
life of your child.

With every moment you take
to read every line below
you are saying:
I LOVE YOU.

You cannot Love someone more
than when you save that person’s
Life.

From Danica Collins with the Underground Health Reporter:  read more
The 17th Century Ushered in Cancer. It wasn’t until the 17th century that the first reports of cancer appeared in scientific literature – such as cancer of the scrotum (found in chimney sweeps in 1775, caused by soot particles); and nasal cancer found in users of snuff (finely ground tobacco) in 1761.

The University of Manchester study indicates that cancer-causing factors exist only in modern, industrialized societies—and cancer is fueled by the excesses of modern life.

The food you eat … the air you breathe … the clothes you wear … the water you drink … the personal care products you use … the medications you take … the water you bathe in … virtually everything you consume, and everything you do – or are exposed to – causes cancer these days!
Here are Just a Few Factors Present in  Modern Life That Cause Cancer:

Tobacco (including second-hand and third-hand smoke)
Genetically modified food
Most laundry detergents
Commercial hair dyes
Air pollution (including carbon monoxide, methylene
chloride, and acrolein)
Granite countertops (which emit radon)
Rancid peanuts and seeds
Canola oil
Canned tomatoes
Food laced with pesticides
Chemicals from aerosol cans
Mammograms
X-Rays
Food microwaved in plastic containers (including
plastic wrap, the plastic trays that come with frozen
TV dinners, and even plastic baby bottles)
Environmental pollutants (such as asbestos, benzene, and
formaldehyde)

Professor Rosalie David, at the Faculty of Life Sciences, said:
“There is Nothing in the Natural Environment That Can Cause Cancer … So It Has to Be a Man-Made Disease.”

National Toxicology Program (NTP) is formed from parts of several different US government agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The NTP updates its Report on Carcinogens (RoC) every few years.

The Report on Carcinogens identifies 2 groups of agents:

  1. Known to be human carcinogens”
    2. “Reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens”
The current version of the RoC lists about 240 substances and exposures:Known human carcinogens

Our Dreams Have Wings / Thank You Richard Fletcher / Important Dates

Dedicated
with my deep admiration
and sincere appreciation to
Richard Fletcher.
While in Boy Scout Troop 17
many years ago,
Richard gave countless hours
of patient counseling and friendship
to this very lost young man
at the time in life
when it was most needed.
He encouraged, guided and enabled me to
enter broadcasting and I become host of the
Bill Anderson Music Show at KSTB radio
and Announcer and News Director at KWKC radio,
Co-Host of the Curtis Stone Soul Show,
(I will share more on this eye opening/awakening chapter later)
and Announcer and Host of the
On The Line” talk show simulcast over
KFMN-FM, KACC and KBLE in Abilene.
These positions in broadcasting
enabled me to work my way through College.

How well I remember
listening to Richard report on the
assassination of President John Kennedy
while tearfully sitting in the High School Library.
His compassionate reporting
inspired me enter the broadcasting profession.

And
when the precious Mother of Don and Billy Graves
asked that I become the Scoutmaster of Troop 57 in Abilene,
since no one was available,
I requested my friend Richard to serve in that capacity until
I became old enough to qualify.
Richard, with me as his Assistant, gladly did so.
Don and Billy continued their Scouting experience
along with many, many others.

And today,
I am very proud of the Rev. Donald Graves,
of the Center for Spiritual Living in Tucson,
who delivers powerful messages in dynamic ways:
“God is all there is,
so we are by nature a part of God,
filled with and surrounded by God.”

In one beat

and give Love
a home,
and no one you know
will be lonely

My Dear Friends,
let us live Life
in such a manner
as to instill Joy and Hope,
even among the afflicted
who know not Joy,
who have lost
all Hope.

Perhaps,
there lies the deeper meaning of Life.
Perhaps, there is a reason why
our brief and precious lives
need not suffer so much
anymore.

     The beautiful gifts of Life

One day,
I patiently studied
the breathtaking beauty
of but a single Flower.
And, as my mind turned to reflect
upon the beautiful gifts of Life,
it became clear to me,
such beauty shows us

In your restless dreams
you can wake

and come to know
you are not alone.

“To hear never-heard sounds,
To see never-seen colors and shapes,
To try to understand the imperceptible
power pervading the world;

To fly and find pure ethereal substances
That are not of matter
But of that invisible soul pervading reality.
To hear another soul and to whisper to another soul;
To be a lantern in the darkness
Or an umbrella in a stormy day;
To feel much more than know.

To be the eyes of an eagle,
slope of a mountain;

To be a wave understanding
the influence of the moon;

To be a tree

Look into the mirror

The space

It is the slope of a mountain

it is your laughter

of your smiles,
it is the pillow

As we experience Life
seeping from the veins

we may come to know
that we do not live
in a void,
but in the illusion of shades
of darkening and light.

Our lives are
a form of shadow
that give me visibility
to see myself,
enabling me
to see me,
there,
where I am not.

We see we are, and are not.

“How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of every day’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,
– I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!
– and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Heart of Pure Gold / The Truth About Sugar / Fall Break This Week

“And those who were seen dancing
were thought insane
by those who could not
hear the music.”
– Nietzche

It can be good to be TALL.

Heart of Pure Gold

Eyes give away
What we never say,
That a heart
Can yearn to stay
Like a ship provisioned
And in the harbor,
Rigged and ready
To journey into tomorrow.

But she quits her moorings
And spreads her beautiful white sails
T
o dance with ease
In the morning breeze
And departs for the ocean blue.
Majestic, my Dear Friends,
With her swelling sails,
And waves thrashing
Upon her hull,
Like the beating Heart

In you,
Pounding to get out
The see the world
Too.

To show the way back to the Love.

“Someone at my side says,
“There! She’s gone!” “Gone where?”
“Gone from my sight, that’s all.”
She is just as large in mast and spar
and hull as ever she was . . .
Her diminished size is in me,
not in her.”
And just at that moment . . .
there are other eyes watching her coming
and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout,

“Here she comes!”
– David Marcus

Where you are
May never seem
The place your heart
Longs to be,
And tomorrow
May appear
The last hope
Of today.

“I want to live,
I want to give.
I’ve been a miner
for a heart of gold.
It’s these expressions
I never give,
That keep me searching
for a heart of gold.”
Neil Young

So profound
Can life be,
That our remembrance
Of such deep hunger,
Of our search for meaning,
Our longing to be,
Can in our hard earned empathy,
In our learned generosity,
Enable the heart
To truly see those in need,
And lead me to be
So very, very far beyond
Me.

And they need you to be near.

“Happiness is the only good.
The place to be happy is here.
The time to be happy is now.
The way to be happy
is to make others so.”
– Robert Green Ingersoll

There is a Light
In the harbor of our dreams.
It is shinning
For you
And for me,
To show the Way
Back to the Love
That always was,
Always will be,
To the time
When we will meet again,
In the dawn of a beautiful tomorrow
In our Prayers,
In our Dreams.

Love remembers only tomorrow.

In our time of plenty,
More becomes
Less and less,
Until more and more
Leave less than less,
And too much
Of so much more
Becomes nothingness.
And life and living
Become dying and death,
Lost in a haze,
The fog of a war,
So far from won,
That one and one
Is none.

The sun only rises before it sets.

Our children
Do not really need much.
They need Love,
And they need you.
They need you
To walk into a room
And turn on the lights
With a smile.
They need the quiet
Of the night
To be broken
By the whisper of your voice.

They need to laugh.
And yes,
They need to cry,
Tears of joy.
And they need you
To be near
If ever they find
They really need you.

The strength of beginning,
Starting again,
Lies in the forgiveness
Of ending,
Of what brought us
To this.

Majestic, with her swelling sails, and waves thrashing upon her hull, like the beating Heart in you.

“There is a ship
and she sails the sea

She’s loaded deep,
as deep can be

But not as deep
as the love I’m in

I know not
if I sink or swim.”

– Travers, Stookey, Okun, & Yarrow

The day after tomorrow
Can yesterday be,
And forever,
Made of a Savior
We do not see,
Save in our Hearts,
Our Prayers,
Our everlasting need.

They need the quiet of the night.

Two thousand years
Of tomorrows,
Was ever yesterday,
Since He
Forgave us everyone,
For they too,
Did not know
What they do.

“If I had to choose between
loving you and breathing,
I would use my last breath
to say I love you.”
– Unknown

Love seeks not
A knowing
In which it may be,
It remembers
Only tomorrow,
Endures what is
Today,
Is creation of a moment
To be.
Love is all about
Tomorrow,
The beauty of hope
Which shelters us
From the tragic storms
Of today.

It sees as it seeks,
Never truly dying,
Never knowing death,
Never seeing
What had no beginning,
Never ending.

Lead me to be so very, very far beyond me.

“Death is a natural step
In the progression of life.”
You Cannot Die
by Margaret Stevens

Children born tomorrow
Do not know of your regret
today,
Nor should they.
Today births not yesterday.
A child loves the moment
It lives for.
The sun only rises
Before it sets.

In our failing to see,
We look into,
Not through,
Eyes beautiful,
Translucent, easily iridescent.
Transparent are we,
And this I am told:
“Look for God
In the eyes
Of one you Love,
To seek a
Heart of Pure Gold.”

The day after tomorrow can yesterday be.

For God,
My Friends,
Is Love,
All the Love
Your very precious Heart
Can behold.
And we,
Reflections
In His Loving Eyes,
Eyes that see
You.

The Truth About Sugar
New Science Documentary

I ask you, and your children,
to watch this highly informative documentary.
It can save your life and the life of your precious children.

It can prevent much suffering.

Not that many of us know quite how to quit consuming so much SUGAR or, in fact, what the downsides to a sugary diet actually are.

The Truth About Sugar documentary, aired on BBC One aimed to demystify some of the myths about sugar – namely, what food products secretly contain it – and demonstrate the impact it can make on your health if you reduce the amount you eat.

It charted the lives of four people, who consumed nearly 119 teaspoons of sugar between them a day.

Journalist Fiona Phillips is on a mission to find out the truth behind the recent headlines on sugar. She discovers why some of us have more of a sweet tooth than others, which sugars you can enjoy guilt-free, why there is so much sugar hidden in food you would think was purely savoury and what effect sugary drinks have on the appetite. Fiona also helps four Brits, whose sugar-heavy diets could be putting their health at risk, to change their ways.

From coming up with low-sugar recipes to finding ways to beat the sweet cravings, they will see whether cutting back to the levels suggested by health authorities is really achievable and what the benefits actually are. As the dieters progress on their journey, it soon becomes clear that the transformations will be dramatic.

Thanksgiving is a time of celebration, but for 45 million turkeys across the United States, it is no laughing matter. Turkeys raised for food are bred to grow so quickly that they develop multiple health problems, including heart disease and leg disorders.

They are raised in overcrowded, poorly ventilated ammonia-filled facilities where they endure painful debeaking and detoeing procedures.

Since 1986,
Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project
has encouraged people to save a turkey
at Thanksgiving through sponsorships
that help rescue animals and provide care for them
at their sanctuaries,as well as educate and advocate for turkeys
and other farm animals everywhere.
