Our Cherished Dreams / The Perfect Food / Cancer and Deodorants / Friday: Fossil Mania

As we embrace
this moment
and say hello,

we usher in goodbye,
and look
into the space
where once lived
our Cherished Dreams.
lotusThe road of Life narrows

the longer it gets,
as we stumble and fall,
never truly knowing why.

And from those
who help us up,
who sustain and nurture us,
who come to Love us,
who forgive us all,
the lessons

we learn from living,
tell us
Wonderful Things:

While in Love,
there is no
measure of time,
no distance
between our thoughts
of each other.

With someone you Love,
you live in a space
the size of your
Heart.
And everything
you truly want
in Life,
is inside.

Now,
you may think
that’s not much space.
But the vast and possibly
Infinite Universe,

that houses all the Stars and Galaxies,
most of which
we simply cannot see,
started in a space
much smaller
than the period
at the end of this

Most physicists now believe
that the entire Universe
began with one Big Bang.
At first,
all the matter and energy
in the Universe
was crammed together
in one unimaginably small dot.

The Antennae Galaxies (also known as NGC 4038 and 4039) are a pair of distorted colliding spiral galaxies about 70 million light-years away, in the constellation of Corvus (The Crow). This view combines ALMA observations, made in two different wavelength ranges during the observatory’s early testing phase, with visible-light observations from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The Hubble image is the sharpest view of this object ever taken and serves as the ultimate benchmark in terms of resolution. ALMA observes at much longer wavelengths which makes it much harder to obtain comparably sharp images. However, when the full ALMA array is completed its vision will be up to ten times sharper than Hubble. Most of the ALMA test observations used to create this image were made using only twelve antennas working together — far fewer than will be used for the first science observations — and much closer together as well. Both of these factors make the new image just a taster of what is to come. As the observatory grows, the sharpness, speed, and quality of its observations will increase dramatically as more antennas become available and the array grows in size. This is nevertheless the best submillimetre-wavelength image ever taken of the Antennae Galaxies and opens a new window on the submillimetre Universe. While visible light — shown here mainly in blue — reveals the newborn stars in the galaxies, ALMA’s view shows us something that cannot be seen at those wavelengths: the clouds of dense cold gas from which new stars form. The ALMA observations — shown here in red, pink and yellow — were made at specific wavelengths of millimetre and submillimetre light (ALMA bands 3 and 7), tuned to detect carbon monoxide molecules in the otherwise invisible hydrogen clouds, where new stars are forming. Massive concentrations of gas are found not only in the hearts of the two galaxies but also in the chaotic region where they are colliding.

Let the Divine within claim its place.

The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made of, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.”

The Avocado

has been called the world’s most perfect food? It has achieved this distinction because many nutritionists claim it not only contains everything a person needs to survive – but it has also been found to contribute to the prevention and control of Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other health conditions.

The avocado originated in Puebla, Mexico and its use dates back to 10,000 years B.C. Since AD 900, the avocado tree has been cultivated and grown in Central and South America. In the 19th century, the avocado made its entry into California, and has since become a very successful commercial crop. Ninety-five percent (95%) of U.S. avocados are gown in Southern California.

The avocado, also called the alligator pear, is a high-fiber, sodium-and cholesterol-free food that provides nearly 20 essential nutrients, including fiber, is rich in healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (such as omega-3 fatty acids), vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and folate) – as well as potassium.

Foods naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as avocados, are widely acknowledged as the secret to a healthy heart, a brilliant brain and eagle eyes.

Dr. Daniel G. Amen, a clinical neuroscientist, psychiatrist, brain-imaging expert and author of the New York Times bestseller Change Your Brain, Change Your Life counts avocados as one of the top brain-healthy foods that can help prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. That’s not only because of the avocado’s omega-3 fatty acid content but also its Vitamin E content,

An international journal called Alzheimer ’s Disease and Associated Disorders, reported its findings from years of clinical trials – high doses of Vitamin E can neutralize free radicals and the buildup of proteins to reverse the memory loss in Alzheimer’s patients; reverse symptoms of Alzheimer’s in the early stages and retard the progression of the disease;

Folate content – helps to prevent the formation of tangled nerve fibers associated with Alzheimer’s.

The virtues of the avocado are too numerous to mention, but here are just a few more health benefits that its nutritional profile provide:
Monounsaturated Fats – These types of fats help control triglycerides in the bloodstream, lower blood cholesterol and control diabetes.

Folate – This water-soluble B vitamin promotes healthy cell and tissue development. According the National Institute of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements, “This is especially important during periods of rapid cell division and growth such as infancy and pregnancy. Folate is also essential for metabolism of homocysteine and helps maintain normal levels of this amino acid.”

Lutein – This is a carotenoid (a natural pigment) that protects against cataracts and certain types of cancer, and reduces the risk of macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in adults 65 years of age and older. Avocados contain 3 or more times as much lutein as found in other common vegetables and fruits.

Oleic acid and Potassium – Both of these nutrients also help in lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk of high blood pressure.

Before you indulge in avocados to your heart’s content, however, remember that they have lots of calories because of their fat content. According to WebMD, “A medium-sized avocado contains 30 grams of fat, as much as a quarter-pound burger. That’s why diet experts have long urged Americans to go easy on avocados in favor of less fatty fruits and vegetables. But now nutritionists are taking another look. They’re finding that most of the fat in an avocado is monounsaturated – the “good” kind that actually lowers cholesterol levels. Thanks to this new understanding, the U.S. government recently revised its official nutrition guidelines to urge Americans to eat more avocados.”

Some deodorants could cause breast cancer: Swiss study
Published: 26 Sep 2016  read more

Women who regularly use deodorants containing aluminium salts could risk developing breast cancer, a new Swiss study warns.

“I think we should avoid all deodorants containing aluminium salts,” according to  André-Pascal Sappino.

“And it’s very difficult to be sure that the so-called ‘without aluminium’ brands really are without,” added the oncology Professor from the University of Geneva.

“Asbestos is cheap, has very attractive industrial potential, and it took 50 years to ban it. We hope it doesn’t take so long to ban aluminium salts,” said Sappino.

Like asbestos, aluminium is not detectably mutagenic in bacteria, but subcutaneous injections of aluminium salts in mice resulted in “very aggressive tumours”.

The study, co-authored by four researchers from the Clinique des Grangettes, is published in the International Journal of Cancer.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning, born of the one Light, Eden saw play. – Eleanor Farjeon

But,
By the Light of Love,
The dark of night
That pervades the spaces,
So cavernous and lonely
In the Soul,
Shall be driven out,
And you will be
Blinded by this Light,
No longer able to see
The hate that was you,
And me.

In remembering
Such that always was,
And may very well
Always be,

Let us ask ourselves:

Have we squandered
Our precious existence
Thinking no one
In the Heart
Is home?

Did we lay low
A legacy of Love,
So our human Heart
Could roam?

What Only You Can Imagine

pic for web

“Happiness is the realization
of God in the heart.”
                      – White Eagle

The story of our lives
Is the story of all life.
We are all living in a story we tell.
And every time we love someone,
What we say with our lives
B
ecomes part of another story.

And what was me,
Is now we.
And our story is one.

The story of your life
Can become so moving, so uplifting,
That you feel the world around you move
From hate to love,
From being weak to strong,
From silence to song,

The story you tell with your life
Can lift us, all of us, beyond ourselves
To shape and form
What only you can imagine
,
into a new reality,
Another person,
A new you.

God has bestowed upon you
The power to create,

Through the loving personality
That possesses your heart.

What is within
Can be transformed
Into a new dimension,

A new time,
A new place.
One in which you
Will Love to live,
And live to Love.

When the stars come out tonight,
Look up.

  Have shadows filled the day
Of someone you pulled
From the wreckage,
Of a silent reverie?
Did you place someone
Into the arms of the Angel

  You keep hidden deep within?

Life so kind,
Love so sublime,
Will discover loving memories
Seeping from the veins
Of your invisible being,
Into the empty spaces
Of the hollow hearts

All around you.
And the lonely,
And the unloved

You shall never meet again.

I pray you will see the Light
God placed deep within your heart.
Then your burdens will weightless be,
And you will find Peace tonight,
From the endlessness you feel.

  Oh, dreamer of dreams,
Arms of the Angel you are,
Ache to embrace the tempest-tossed,
Thinking all is lost,
Lost in the violence
Of a heartless sea.

Let the grandeur
Of your bountiful, beautiful Love
Blossom in the sunlight of your soul.

How happy you will be.

After all the deeply heartfelt feelings
You have helping someone in need,
There will flow a depth
Of unbelievably beautiful emotion,
Which nothing else
May ever convey to you.

Your reward shall in Heaven be,
And in the Heaven on Earth you create
In the heart of someone
You now come to love.

Easily spoken, not easy to see,
The Kingdom of Heaven,
As Jesus has said,
Is within you and me (Luke 17:23).

Open your heart,
It will be.

I pray you will find the joy in life
And the bountiful Love
That waits for you
Quietly,
Impatiently.

There is no need for temples;
no need for complicated philosophy.
Our own heart is our temple;
the philosophy is kindness.

You may have heard about the miracle antioxidant resveratrol, found in blueberries, grapes and red wine. But did you know that these same foods also contain another phenolic compound, pterostilbene, which may help lower body fat and reduce diabetes risk? That was the finding of a study conducted by researchers from the Spanish Biomedical Research Centre in Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBERobn) of the Carlos III Institute of Health, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Pterostilbene is in the same chemical family as resveratrol and is found in many of the same foods, such as grapes, blueberries, cranberries and peanuts. Learn more

“There is something otherworldly
about our existence here

more than the body and mind –
something fundamentally and profoundly abstract.

it is not at all obvious,
indeed scarcely noticed by the great majority of us
as we go about our daily lives.”
Guy Murchie,
The Seven Mysteries of Life

There is a reality that science cannot define.

I have discovered over the years that there are forces at work no one can imagine, and never comprehend. I found such an indescribable power in Love. I found it in the Love expressed through the life of my Mother. Her love abides with me every day. It is the single, most formidable and pervasive force I have ever encountered.

And now I understand that such Love is a universal constant, a Spirit that fills the darkness of the Heavens and the spaces in life. It lives within each of us and is in every living thing.

Marie Anderson

Marie Anderson

It is the reality that science cannot define and yet, is that which everyone seems, instinctively to need. The poets and songwriters know what the realm of physics will never comprehend, that, as Joe Henry so beautifully intones,

“Love is seeing all the universe in one,
in the brotherhood of creatures.
It lives within each part and is the whole.”

My, how my Mother loved her little boy! She taught me in life, and teaches me in death, that love is all that is left. And all that love you keep with you. Each morning I awake from a beautiful journey, as she touches me with the flower of her love in my hand. And, as she takes my hand, I remember her in beautiful dreams that never end. It is a vision of her goodness and it sustains me as I grow old.

My friends, your Love will be the only thing that will remain. Everything else will dissolve, just disappear. In the end, the Love felt by others is all that shall remain. Nothing, no, nothing else will matter. The story of your life will be read by someone’s heart. And that story can go on and on and on. Just as the Love of God is Infinite, your Love can remain.

The reflection of our being is on the other side of this existence. What you do today will be mirrored in other hearts tomorrow. In a very real way, the story of your life begins the day you leave. And only you are the author of this story.

Every day is a page. And every sentence can begin with a smile and end with a warm embrace. Your trace in time is written indelibly.

Let it be a Love story.

Now this is a comfy spot!

What we eat at restaurants can cause health issues. Too many carbohydrates, too much fat and too much salt can lead to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol issues.

Restaurant menus are designed to entice your sense of taste, not tell you whether the foods they’re advertising are healthy.

The worst chain restaurant dishes are:

Fried foods
Calories in restaurant foods
Healthier fast food options

Restaurant Code Words: Crunchy, tempura, battered, crispy, breaded, crusted, golden, sizzling

If you’re making a healthy choice, you’re probably not purposely choosing a fried food item. Look for words like crunchy, battered, crispy, breaded, crusted, golden, tempura; some of these options are a double-whammy on your caloric intake because the item is fried with an additional carb-based coating.

Fried foods may taste great, but tend to be high in fat and calories – and deep frying robs food of nutrients. A grilled, baked or roasted 4-ounce chicken breast (the size of a deck of cards) will run you about 170 calories, whereas the deep fried selection can pack a whopping 370 calories.

To make matters worse, many restaurants (usually of the fast food variety) use partially hydrogenated oil because it can be reheated and reused over and over again. Partially hydrogenated oil contains trans fats (the worst of the fats) which raises your LDL (bad cholesterol) and lowers your HDL (good cholesterol), leading to a higher incidence of heart disease.

High-sugar foods

We enjoyed our time at the bookstore.

We enjoyed our time at the bookstore.

Restaurant Code Words: Teriyaki, BBQ, glazed, sticky, honey-dipped

Powdered doughnuts may be self-explanatory on a menu, but options labeled as Teriyaki, BBQ, glazed, sticky or honey-dipped could also be high in added sugars. It is wise to ask if sauces of any kind are made with sugar, including salad dressings and vinaigrettes.

This was everyone's favorite sign.

This was everyone’s favorite sign.

Watch out also for meals that are high in carbohydrates. Carbs turn into sugar when they are broken down by your digestive system. The usual suspects are items like pasta, potatoes and rice, but even menu items like “healthy” couscous, quinoa and faro are high in carbs and should be eaten with the same moderation as traditional offerings.

How much sugar is in that drink?

High-calorie foods

Restaurant Code Words: Loaded, stuffed, creamy, cheesy, gooey, smothered, melted, rich, velvety

It’s funny how adjectives describing foods can elicit Pavlov’s law in even the most rigorous health fanatic. That’s the point. Foods described as loaded, stuffed, creamy, cheesy, gooey, smothered, melted, rich and velvety are triggering a “feeling” that you get when you eat that particular menu item. Don’t fall into the trap!

These “comfort foods” may take you back in time to a simpler place where a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich on brioche could right all of the wrongs in the world, but the one wrong it won’t right is the number of calories packed into one bite.

Something described as “loaded” or “stuffed” is going to also be loaded or stuffed with calories — and no one wants to feel like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Eating out costs you 200 calories

Healthier options

Restaurant Code Words: roasted, baked, braised, broiled, poached, rubbed, seared, grilled, steamed, sautéed, spiced, seasoned

Chefs at local restaurants everywhere are catching on that Americans are looking for healthier options when dining out. Restaurants that specialize in foods that are “made-to-order” or that focus on locally sourced foods will likely have more options.

The cars were carefully inspected.

Words like roasted, poached, baked or grilled are your best options – just don’t order the grilled 26-ounce rib eye steak. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about the menu, and if nutritional information is available, read through and choose the meal that will balance your health with your desire for something tasty.

The Enduring Power of Eternal Love / Destination: Stock Show

“Love is always open arms.
If you close your arms about love
you will find that you are holding only yourself.”

– Leo Buscaglia

A pesticide free environment produces wondrous creations.

In a pesticide free environment we discover wondrous creations. This stunning Moth was waiting patiently for Dr. A on his chair. I am simply stunned by the beauty displayed on the living canvasses of Gods art, found throughout our natural world of wonder.

The Enduring Power of Eternal Love

Have you ever noticed how everything is beautiful when you are in love? Love becomes a lens that focuses the vision of our lives. And I have often wondered if, perhaps, we can only truly see through the eyes of love. If so, the focus of life becomes the human heart.

And, I wonder, if love is all there is to truly see. For without love, we are more than blind, for we can never come to know more than what we can see. And, as strange as it may seem, we can only see ourselves through the loving eyes of another. That person becomes the mirror of our reality. We always see ourselves through eyes of someone else. When we comb our hair and get dressed each morning, we do these things not for ourselves, but for others. We want to look good in the mirror of their minds and in the memory of their hearts.

Have you noticed that when you are truly in love, everything that does not matter becomes blurred. But clearly, the one you love stays focused, even in your dreams. Yes, you can see so clearly that love and life beautifully blend together until, at last, you love life and you find your way home. And, to your surprise, home is not found where you are, but in the heart of another. And what a warm and treasured place to be. Leo Buscaglia says it another way, “If you close your arms about love you will find that you are holding only yourself.” Now there is a lonely place.

The human heart, as fragile as it is, can become the mightiest fortress God can build, to house the most precious treasure on this earth. My friends, let your heart be transformed by the enduring power of the love of God. And, if you look, you can find that love residing in the heart of the next child you meet.

Bailey truly enjoyed skating.

Bailey truly enjoyed skating at Rollerland West.

Yes, God sees through the eyes of every child. And He is looking straight at you and staring into the very depths of your soul. And the rhythm of your heart beats in time with His. And His Heart resides within each one of His Lambs, for we are truly One, and only One.

Yes, there lies buried deep within each of us a treasure far greater than gold – something that transcends all understanding, all reason, all knowledge and all mankind. It is always abiding, enduring, yes, always alive. And it measures time in a mysterious and unique way. Being near to those we love causes time to pass quickly. And being far away, time moves in our aching hearts and in our minds – so slowly. Yes, your heart is the only true measure of time.

Today, research by leading physicists tells us that Dark energy is a mysterious quantity that makes up, along with dark matter, most (if fact, nearly ALL) of the mass of the universe. Two of the biggest mysteries of both string theory and cosmology are the presence of unseen, what is called, dark matter and a form of dark energy. No one, not even one scientist, can define these mysterious forces, which constitutes an astonishing 96% of matter, with recognizable, normal matter being only 4%. This unknown and indefinable matter and energy constitutes almost everything and is all pervasive (much like God is described in religious texts). Our greatest minds have no idea what it is. And I am left wondering if, perhaps, we are at long last now discovering the all encompassing power that is the vast ocean of God’s Eternal Love.

Mary Alice introduces one lucky dog.

Mary Alice introduces one deeply loved and very lucky dog.

In the insightful and beautifully crafted words of Joe Henry and music by John Denver, entwined within the lyrics of, “The Wings That Fly Us Home”, we can find a deep philosophical revelation:

“And the spirit fills the darkness of the heavens
It fills the endless yearning of the soul
It lives within a star too far to dream of
It lives within each part and is the whole
It’s the fire and the wings that fly us home.”

On Friday, January 24, 2014 we will enjoy, weather permitting, the Fort Worth Stock Show at the Will Rogers Center (817- 877-2400) in the cultural district.
