The Poetry of Life / Blessings You May Be Overlooking / Dietary Changes for People with Depression

The greatest happiness of Life
is the conviction that we are
Loved;
Loved for ourselves,
or rather,
Loved in spite of ourselves.”

Victor Hugo

Do not wait
to be Happy
in a future
which may never be.
The ONLY time to become Happy
is always
in THIS precious moment.

When we forget our true
and original Nature,
we feel hopeless
and spiral down into
deep despair.
.
 My Dear Friends,
our original Nature,
the one that is real,
is pure and limitless.
It isn’t bound or attached
to our past,
to our mistakes
of which we ALL
are in sufferance,
or to circumstances,
so typically beyond
our control.

Unregenerate Mankind
is not renewed in the Heart and mind,
or most importantly,
reborn in Spirit.
Without a rebirth
of all the Love
hidden deep in your Heart,
your Heart fails to know God,
and so the Wisdom of God
remains hidden to those
that are perishing.

Love reflects in the mind and the Heart.

Accepting
the Beautiful and Bountiful Love of God,
breathes contentment into Life.
Such Love
reflects in the mind and the Heart,
like the notes of gentle drops of water,
like rhythmic waves of the Ocean
rising and falling,
like Angelic Voices
 carrying you away
into a Place of Peace
and Joy.

The Beauty of God’s Love
can not be described with words,
because it is
Infinite.

Yes,
God’s
Love is
Forever.

My Friends,
the Holy Bible is really
a Love Letter
from God
to you and to me.
If you are feeling alone or unloved,
please read and meditate
on the Loving Verses
found in the Word of God.

You can come to understand
just how much God Loves
YOU.

The Love of God is the Light inside.

How magnificent
to be in the Beauty of Prayer
and search for the Peace
in one’s Soul.

Breathe deeply,
calm your mind.
Reach deep down inside your Heart
and reflect upon the last tender moment
of pure Joy that you felt.
Meditate upon where you were
and what you found
in that rare moment
and how it made you feel.
.
Now,
know that you can feel that way again.
Where you last found pure Joy,
there it will always be.

The Love of God
is the Light
inside
that heals the Heart
that  Loves.

Goodnight.

Reflect upon the last tender moment of pure Joy.

Are you Grateful for Your Life?
13 Blessings You May Be Overlooking

I’m sure there has been much pain in your Life. You have probably had extreme ups and downs, and times of emotional, spiritual, and physical unrest. This is why gratitude can be one of the most difficult virtues to uphold.

We forget that gratitude is not only about our accomplishments, what we have, or the good fortune we experience, but that gratitude comes from simply being a person alive in the world. There are many Blessings in disguise that aren’t always apparent to us, and many of these Blessings are afforded to us simply for being alive! As long as we have Life, we can learn to be grateful for it, and uncover our unique Human Blessings despite the hardships. Below are some broad and general Blessings that you may have overlooked.

1. Wisdom

Through life we have so many opportunities to grow as a person and gain greater awareness and understanding of ourselves and world around us. This is a true blessing. Learning from our mistakes and growing from experiences is a part of the gift of life. Recognize how fortunate we are to be able to grow spiritually and reflect on our own existence in order to reach greater contentment.

2. Service

As Human beings we have been Blessed to be able to give and serve others. We can do kind things for other people, or altruistically help another person in need, and we can get this same behavior reciprocated to ourselves. Taking an approach to give back what we have been given and help others feel better is a wonderful gift. When we grow full of gratitude and joy we can begin to share it with others.

3. Protection

We are all afforded protection. Think of the many close calls and moments where you have safely made it through a precarious situation. Most of us have a sense of security and faith that we are going to be okay in difficult times. This is something to be very grateful for. Things may not be perfect but as long as we have a sense of safety it makes it possible to experience love, pleasure, and trust.

4. Rest

If you have a type-A personality like me you are always on the go, and viewing rest and relaxation as a blessing can be overlooked. However, we all need time to restore our body and mind, and having time to relax can be one of the most valuable gifts to receive in this busy world. It provides us a new beginning and fresh perspective. Don’t take for granted the opportunity to simply relax and be restful.  Recognize your downtime as a Blessing.

5. Healing/Health

If you’re going through a difficult medical situation right now, this may be hard to accept, but our bodies are made to heal. Every cut, scrape, and bruise heals in time. Focus on the magnificence of your bodies natural healing ability. Learn to cherish your health, preserve it, and when you get sick feel Blessed that you will get better.

6. Guidance

We all have moments where we receive guidance, whether directly or indirectly. We are given advice and receive advice every day if we are willing to stop and notice these moments. Feel Blessed when you ask someone a question and they happily give you advice. When you are able to help another person, recognize the Beauty in this encounter. There is an infinite amount of knowledge in the World that is at our finger tips. If you are uncertain about something, guidance is around the corner.

7. Purpose

Everyone has a purpose. It just needs to be discovered. When we uncover our purpose we have a whole new outlook on Life and can approach each day with vigor and resolve. This is a true Blessing that we can uncover a purpose beyond ourselves. This may be one of the major reasons we are alive. Consider what you do best, what you desire to offer the world, and how you can make a difference, and start following your purpose.

8. Free Will

It’s an amazing thing to have free will. We can make choices that better our Life and have a sense of control. In this sense, we have control over our destiny. We can also make choices that will cause us to learn from our mistakes and become a better person. We can choose to have fun and pursue our goals at the same time. We are free to choose how to live our Life despite what others may say. This is a Blessing is used appropriately.

9. Abundance

We are made to experience abundance and have our Hearts desires. The Universe does not lack in any outlet. There is enough in the World for everyone. This relates to creative ideas, wealth, and influence. The world’s abundance may not be distributed equally, but don’t let that fool you, there is enough for everyone, including you!

10. Eternity

If there is one thing that is easily overlooked in our day to day hustle and bustle is that we are Eternal Beings in an Eternal World. We are here to live our a purpose until our bodies expire. There are many beliefs about what happens after we die, but one thing that seems persistent is the Eternity of time, and we are a part of this. We are Eternal and everlasting.

11. Love and Sorrow

Our relationships, friends, and family are something to be thankful for everyday. Having someone who can give us support and allows us to experience love and affection is such a Blessing. Whenever you develop a Loving relationship realize how much of a Blessing this is. Cherish relationships in all the joy and sorrow they provide. As the saying goes, “It’s better to have Loved and lost, than to have never Loved at all.

12. Patience

When you are waiting in line, sitting in traffic, or anticipating a meeting, do you ever focus on these situations as a time to practice patience? It definitely requires a perspective shift to recognize what a blessing our ability to be patient is. Patience gives us a chance to be at Peace, experience the present moment, and remain contented in a World of immediate gratification. Next time you have an opportunity to be patient recognize it as a Blessing and use this capability.

13. Work

Work can seem like a pretty dirty word, but labor is a rewarding part of Life. I’m sure we have all complained about work at one point or another. Yet without work, where would we be? Work is the fiber of our lives, and when we find work that is fulfilling, it offers us a sense of purpose, meaning, and pride. Work is a blessing. Even if you aren’t fulfilled by your work, you can be grateful for doing good work, and for what you do well. We all have many things to be thankful for and that we can view with appreciation. Sometimes it takes a change in perceptive to find all the Blessings in disguise that surround us. Begin to incorporate some of the ideas above and consider other Blessings you may be overlooking. By doing so, it will help you develop acceptance, strength, and courage to make a better Life. Photo credit: andrea.rose

Adding more fruit and vegetables
to the diet may help people with depression.

The brain needs the right mix of nutrients to function properly.

The British Dietetic Association (BDA) outlines some dietary changes people with depression can make that may help prevent relapses:

  • eating unsaturated fats by cooking with olive or grapeseed oil and adding nuts and seeds to meals
  • avoiding trans fats found in processed meat, ready meals, cookies, and cakes
  • eating more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables
  • eating protein with tryptophan, found in fish, poultry, eggs, and spinach
  • eating oily fish containing omega-3 oils or taking omega-3 supplements at least twice a week
  • drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day
  • avoiding caffeinated drinks, such as coffee and soda

Out of a Very Dark Night – A Miracle of Life / Aspirin and Cancer Prevention /

Photo Long Before We Met

Out of a very dark night.

The Holy Bible is filled
with stories of God’s Miracles.
But miracles, my Friends,
fill our everyday lives as
the Hand of God
hovers over your Heart.
He waits for you,
to let the Love
in your precious Heart
flow through you and from Him
and out into the World,
into the very beautiful Hearts
that abound all around.
Into those in need
of Forgiveness,
in need of someone
to care,
in need of the Miracle
of your warm smile,
your kind word,
in need of Love.
 1

Miracles abound
all around.
You are a miracle,
a Blessed and very precious
and very Human being.

The fact that you are alive
is a Miracle!

And the Miracle of your Life
is far beyond amazing.
This wonderful Gift of Life
is what God has truly Blessed us with.

From our Friends at
AllAboutGOD.com:

Could life have evolved randomly?
No!
Not according to
Mathematicians
and other scientists.

Prominent scientists have attempted
to calculate the odds
that a single-celled organism
could result by the chance combining
of pre-existent building blocks.

Harold Morowitz calculated the odds
as one chance in 10100,000,000,000.

The odds are staggering.

“We are led cent by dollar
from a lowly pile of common materials
to a grand Philosophical conclusion,
the infinite preciousness of every person.”
– Harold Joseph Morowitz

The odds led Fred Hoyle to state
that the probability of spontaneous generation
is about the same as the probability
that a tornado sweeping through a junk yard
could assemble a Boeing 747
from the contents.

Mathematicians tell us that any event
with an improbability greater than
one chance in 1050
is in the realm of metaphysics
a Miracle.

“If you go back 10 generations (250 years)
the chance of you being born at all
is at most 1 divided by 6 x 10100 or
1 in 60000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000.
In gambling,
even a chance of 1 to 100 is not worth a gamble.
Are you ever lucky to be alive!”  read more

Morowitz

Physicist Harold Marowitz,
Professor of molecular Biophysics
and Biochemistry at Yale University,
used Physics calculations in concluding,
that it is more likely
you would win the state lottery
every week for a million years
by purchasing just one ticket each week,
than reassembling a single bacterium
by chance.

robert_shapiroRobert Shapiro,
N. Y. University Professor of Chemistry   and DNA expert,
calculated the probability
of the 2,000 types of proteins
in a simple bacterium
coming into existence by chance
is the astronomical figure equivalent to
1 followed by 40,000 zeroes.

“The improbability involved in
generating even one bacterium
is so large that it
reduces all considerations of time and space

to nothingness.”
– Robert Shapiro

Hoyle

       Hoyle

Sir Fred Hoyle
was Plumian Professor in Mathematics at Cambridge University
and Director of the Institute
of Theoretical Astronomy.
He compared the probability of life
arising by chance
to lining up blind people,
giving each one a scrambled Rubik’s Cube and finding that they all solve the cube
at the same moment.

Crick

      Crick

Francis Crick,
molecular biologist, biophysicist, and neuroscientist,
and winner of the Nobel Prize in Biology
for his work with the DNA molecule, stated:
“An honest man,
armed with all the knowledge available
to us now,
could only state that,
in some sense,

the origin of life appears at the moment
to be almost a miracle,

so many are the conditions
which would have had to have been satisfied
to get it going.”

My Dear Friends,
God dwells in your Heart.
And by His Strength and Grace alone,
you are able
to overcome adversity.

Marie Anderson

Marie Anderson

How well I remember
finding my precious Mother,
Marie,
lying in her bed,
literally in a pool
of her own blood.
She was rushed
to Baylor Medical Center.

I am in tears
as I share this with you.
They are tears
of Joy
and Thanksgiving.

The Surgeon visited with me
shortly before proceeding with
exploratory surgery.
And he shared with me
a sad truth.
I asked a simple question
and he gave me
the simple truth:
“Is there any Hope?”
No,
he whispered.
“What is the chance
that she can survive?”
None.
And then I searched his eyes
for any sign of Hope
and asked,
“What are her chances?”
He replied with great compassion
in his voice:
There is a one hundred percent
probability
that she will not survive
this night.
We will do what we can.
But, No.
Dr. Anderson, there is
no Hope.
Her condition is such
that she cannot survive
whatever is causing
this very massive loss of blood.
She is dying from cancer.
I’m sorry.”

I do not know how,
but I made my way
to the little Chapel
in the Hospital.

And there I cried
and cried and cried.
I begged God
not to take the Life
of this precious Mother.
I Prayed.
And through the tears
I could barely see.
But through the years,
I could clearly see.
What a Blessing
Life can be
when someone Loves you
as much
as she Loved me.

                               In awesome wonder

I shared the Love
I had felt though the years
with my Lord.
I expressed my deep gratitude,
over and over again,
for her very precious Life.
I shared the need
to have her with me
a little longer.
I told my God,
“I still need her in my Life.
Please, let me have her
a little longer.”

I was in
so much pain.

And then
my Communion
with the Lord
suddenly ended.
A strange feeling,
a quiet Peace,
came to my Heart.
I never felt anything
like it before.

I looked around
and the good Doctor
was quietly standing behind me.
The look on his face
astonished me.
It shocked me.
I could not understand it.
It was a look
I never expected.
Why was he looking
through me
with such an amazement
in his tired eyes?
He was speechless
for a very long time.
He just looked
into my eyes
and looked through me.

After what seemed like
an Eternity,
he spoke
in a hushed and whispered
voice:
“I could not find anything wrong.
I think she will be all right now.”
I could barely speak.
I thanked him
and he very, very slowly
walked away
into a darkening hallway,
and I walked out of
a very dark night.

My Mother lived
for another twelve
and one half years.

Yes,
my tears
are of Joy
and Thanksgiving.

My Precious Lord,
how Great Thou Art.

Goodnight.

“O Lord my God,
when I in awesome wonder

consider all the Worlds
thy Hands have made,

I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,

Thy power
throughout the Universe displayed.

Then sings my Soul,
my Savior God, to thee:

How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!”
– Carl G. Boberg

“I think the real miracle is . . .
to walk on earth.
Every day we are engaged in a miracle
which we don’t even recognize.
A blue sky, white clouds, green leaves,
the black curious eyes of a Child,
our own two eyes.
All is a miracle.”

The Aspirin – Cancer Link

Taking a low-dose aspirin daily is a common prescription for those at high risk for heart attack and stroke. Research within the last few years is pointing to another possible benefit of aspirin.

When taken regularly, it may also help reduce your risk for certain cancers, particularly colon and gastrointestinal cancers. The benefits, however, may still not outweigh the risks. Check with your Doctor.

In 2012, world-renowned aspirin expert Professor Peter Rothwell of Oxford University and colleagues published three studies in The Lancet journal that suggested that if you are middle-aged, taking a low-dose aspirin every day could slash your risk for various cancers in as few as 2 to 3 years! According to Rothwell, taking an aspirin a day may also help to prevent an existing localized cancer from metastasizing (spreading to other parts of the body), a finding that holds promise for current cancer patients who may likewise receive some benefit from supplementing with aspirin.

A study published this year in JAMA Oncology showed that taking a low-dose aspirin every day may lower your risk for colon cancer by 19%, your risk for gastrointestinal cancer by 15% and your overall cancer risk by 3%. The benefits appeared after 6 years of supplementation.

Senior researcher Dr. Andrew Chan, from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston explained: “That makes sense, because cancers don’t typically develop overnight. They take years to develop, so you would have to take aspirin for a long time to prevent cancer.”

According to Chan, aspirin impacts particular biological pathways that can cause cancer. Aspirin also helps to lower inflammation and possibly limit the number of cancer-causing proteins in the body.

The study analyzed data from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, which followed 130,000 men and women over 30 years. While no link between aspirin and a lower risk for breast, prostate, or lung cancers was found, data did seem to suggest that when aspirin was taken 2 or more times a week it might prevent 17% of colon cancer diagnoses for those not screened with a colonoscopy, and 5-8% of colon cancer cases for those who are.
