The Child Within / Simple Health Tips / Friday: Rollerland West and La Madeleine Country French Cafe

“And wherever I climb
Far away and anywhere,
You raise me high
beyond the sky,

Through stormy night
lifting me above.

Whenever I cry,
Far away and anywhere,
You hear me call
when shadows fall.

Your Light of Hope
showing me the way.”

– Elgin Lumpkin, Robert Tigley Gerongco,
Samuel Tigley Gerongco

                  The Child within.

If
you want to give
your precious Child
a Gift,
give the Child within,
the Child you are,
the Child once you were,
the Child you have been
and want to be
again.

Through your Child’s eyes
you can finally come
to see,
that YOU
are no longer blind
to the Love of God
within.

Listen,
you can hear
the Voice of God
in the laughter
of your Child at play,
in the songs
you sing,
in the breeze –
the melody of the leaves
in the trees,
in the Love you see
drifting on a lake
of beautiful
memories.

On a lake of beautiful memories.

“Let the little children come to me,
and do not hinder them,
for the Kingdom of God
belongs to such as these.

Truly
I tell you,

anyone who will not receive
the Kingdom of God
like a little child
will never enter it.”
Luke 18:15-17

Let the Child
in you
bring you Home.
And by the Grace of God,
you will never again
be alone.

Love that simply will not die.

There is something
time cannot deny.
It lives
in our memories,
it is alive
in our Dreams,
and never echos goodbye.
It is
the Love
that simply will not
die.

The Human Heart
is always in
Prayer.
What it needs,
it fervently desires.
But the mind
does not permit
the Heart
to always be
aware.

When evening
gilds the beautiful sky
and colors the Heart,
Love
filters through the mind,
and stills
our restless Soul.

For the Eye
of your Spirit,
is the Ear
of your Heart.

“O Love
That will not let me go,

I rest my weary Soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the Life I owe,
That in Thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O Light that followest all my way, georgematheson
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My Heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the Promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.
George Matheson

My Friends,
there is Victory
in the Word,
the Sacred Word
of God.
Lift His Love
from each page
sent from Above,
and God
will lift from your
tearful Heart
all doubt.

“Life has meaning
only in the struggle.

Triumph or defeat
is in the hands of God.
So let us celebrate the struggle!”

– Swahili Song

I am
the Flowers
in pastures green.
I am
the birds in flight that sing.
I am
clay
in the Hands
of the Potter.
I am
His Breath
drawn of deep desire,
to be His Child,
and He,
my Father.

Voices combine.
Music rhymes.
Our Hearts
are one.
The Miracle of Life
we Glorify,
and our Love
of Life
becomes a Song.

I am a Flower in pastures green.

Adoramus.
Gloria in Excelsis Deo.
Glory to God in the Highest.

As we sing the Song
of Life,
we cannot deny,
we touch the
Sky.

               Blessed Assurance

The greatest moment
in all of time,
in everything you do,
everything you hear
and say,
in everything you endure,
is the moment
of Blessed Assurance
of God’s Love
for
YOU.

Goodnight.

Touch the Sky
by Ben Crawley

“Climb a tree to touch the sky.
Through the leaves I watch the birds fly,
in the softly swaying breeze
from my nest among the trees.
So the golden light dances
through the pattern of branches
all the colors of autumn,
alive.
As the leaves of evening fall
from my throne above us all,
where the faithful blossom flowers,
here I while away for hour after hour,
climb a tree
to touch the sky.”

Simple Health Tips

Bitters

Combat a yen for sugar by following a Chinese medicine approach: Eat foods such as endive, radicchio, cooked greens, and olives.

Fish

If you suffer from dry eyes, up your seafood intake. Salmon, sardines, and mackerel contain omega-3 fatty acids, which the body uses to produce tears, among other things. Research suggests that people who consume higher amounts of these fats are less likely to have dry eyes.

Probiotics

Supplementing with “good” bacteria (for example, Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium) may help restore the balance the of bacteria and inhibit the growth of infections. Foods such as naturally fermented sauerkraut, kimchi, and kefir, as well as yogurt with active cultures, also contain these bacteria.

Bilberry

Studies are mixed, but some have found that bilberry, a relative of the blueberry, may improve night vision. During World War II, fighter pilots reported better night vision after eating bilberry jam. 25 to 50 milligrams of bilberry extract will give the best results within the first few hours.

Bananas

People whose diets are rich in potassium may be less prone to high blood pressure. Besides reducing sodium and taking other heart-healthy steps, eat potassium-packed picks such as bananas, cantaloupe, and oranges.

Capsaicin Cream

For sore muscles and joints, apply a cream or ointment that contains capsaicin, the active ingredient in chile peppers, two or three times a day. The heat from the peppers has been shown to help relieve pain.

Garlic

Adding raw or lightly cooked garlic and onions to your meals may help keep you healthy this winter. Both foods appear to possess antiviral and antibacterial properties and are believed to boost immunity.

Tulsi

Research suggests that this Ayurvedic herb, also called holy basil, may help manage levels of the stress hormone cortisol, helping to boost your mood. Look for teas and supplements in health-food stores and follow package directions.

Avocados

For dry skin, incorporate more avocados into your diet. They’re rich in monounsaturated fat and vitamin E, both of which promote healthy skin. Try them on salads and sandwiches, and even in smoothies.

Triphala

Avoid constipation and stay regular with Triphala, an Ayurvedic blend of three fruits that is believed to help tone the gastrointestinal tract. Look for capsules of Triphala and follow package directions.

Arnica

Homeopathic creams, gels, and ointments that contain arnica, a flower similar to the daisy, have long been used to relieve swelling and bruising. Rub into the affected area, but stop using if you develop skin irritation.

GLA

If you’ve ruled out other causes of hair loss, such as stress, overuse of hair-care products, and certain medications and diseases such as hypothyroidism, consider supplementing with evening primrose oil. It’s a good source of gamma-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that’s needed for hair growth and is hard to get from your diet. Experts recommend taking 500 milligrams twice a day; expect to wait eight weeks to see results.

Japanese Food

In addition to following good dental hygiene, you can help prevent cavities by adding more shiitake mushrooms and wasabi to your diet. Both foods contain compounds that help fight the bacteria that cause plaque and cavities.

Hydrate

To treat an acute migraine, drink a full glass of water — dehydration can trigger headaches. Even if you need to take a medication for the pain, try wrapping your head with an Ace bandage so that it covers your eyes, then lie down and breathe deeply. This often helps the pain pass more quickly.

Calendula

To ease acne, forgo benzoyl peroxide for lotion or soap made from calendula flowers, which may have antiseptic effects.

Cranberry Juice

Cranberries contain a substance that appears to keep bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract and has been shown to help prevent UTIs. Because cranberry cocktail is high in sugar, drink unsweetened juice diluted with water or take capsules of powdered cranberry extract.

Mint Tea

Ease occasional indigestion by sipping a cup of peppermint tea after your meal. Peppermint improves the flow of bile, which moves food through the digestive tract more quickly. Use peppermint with caution if you have acid reflux; it can make that problem worse.

Friendly Fungi

The medicinal mushroom cordyceps has traditionally been used to promote lung strength, and some studies show that it may improve symptoms of respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. Look for capsules or tinctures of cordyceps; follow package directions.

Honey

Research suggests that honey may be more effective than over-the-counter cough syrup at quelling nighttime coughing. Use a medicinal-grade variety such as manuka honey and take up to 2 teaspoonfuls at bedtime.

Broccoli

For healthy gums, put this green vegetable on your grocery list. It’s an excellent source of vitamin C and provides calcium as well, both of which have been linked to lower rates of periodontal disease.

Green Tea

Hot or iced, green tea can help rev up your workout. Its catechins, antioxidants, and caffeine help increase the metabolic generation of heat. Drink a cup about 10 minutes before exercising.

Around School 5-5-14 001 - Prof. Lacey

Dedicated to our very own Professor of Epic Literature, Latin and Greek, Mr. Lacey. Among the greatest Blessings in my life, and the lives of so many others, is knowing this gentle Heart, this Loving Soul. What an Honor to know Mr. Harry H. Lacey. Human kindness is overflowing in the life of this truly remarkable man.  Thank you for all you do.                                We Love you too.

“Its obvious that we don’t know
one millionth of one percent
about anything.”

Unbelievable. A bird raised her young inside our cast iron Rabbit welded to the railing. “Uh, what’s up Doc?”

And it becomes apparent that we,
who are almost
nonexistent,
know next to nothing
about anything.

But we keep
wondering
about everything,
not realizing
that the things
we think about,
may not even
exist at all.

There is so very little
to reality,
and it is so fragile
and so filled with illusion.
Yes, it may indeed

So, let’s either wake up or go back to sleep,
we dream either way.

But what ever you choose to do,
give thanks to your Loving Creator.

He made you out of
virtually nothing,
nothing but Love.

Which leads me to believe
that Love
is all there really is.
And if you think about it,
that is a truly powerful

You are Love.
And you are deeply Loved.

Perhaps saying
“I Love you”
has a much deeper meaning
than we will ever
be able
to fully realize.

Tree House Masters move over! Dr. A through imagination (and a lazy streak) simply let this tree grow under the ham shack. He thinks it will gently lift it into the air.                                – Genius!       OK.  Just lazy.

Saying
“I Love you”,

“I am you.”

Perhaps, they are so simple

After all,
they come from

        Nothing but Love

“The nature of ‘reality’
is not only stranger than you imagine,
it’s stranger than you can imagine!

There is a saying that
“truth is stranger than fiction”
and this certainly applies to the nature of reality,
because in the light of increasing evidence,
what we have accepted to be the ‘truth’
about our everyday reality
is much more like the ‘fiction’
of our everyday reality.”

Our students honor the Loving memory of Anne Frank and over a million precious Jewish children lost to the evil of the holocaust. No. We shall never forget. Never. And we shall never stop Loving you.

The precious winds of time
Sometimes blow
Only one way,
Sometimes, we feel,
Not at all.

Such a gentle flowing breeze
At dawn of day,
Reminds us of our brief stay,
Whispering your name,
Beckoning you to stay
In Love
With this Precious Gift of Life
One more day.

“Kindness in words creates confidence;
kindness in thinking creates profoundness;
kindness in giving creates Love.”
Lao Tzu

Should you pause
And close your eyes,
Your heart
May see again,
Past the darkening nights
Of transgression,
Into the Light
Of forgiveness,
Into the soft, glowing
Eternity
Of your precious Heart.

And as you feel
The passing gentle breeze,
Across the beauty
Of the morning sky,
You cannot deny,
The very Breath of God.

I have this to regret,
that too often when I loved,
I did not say so.”

My Dear Friends,
Reach beyond who you are.
Live in the lives of those around you.
Move your mind, body, and spirit.
Step out of your comfort zone,
Open up the vast,
Unexplored space
Inside your Heart.

It too
Has no horizon,
No boundary,
No limit.

Your Love
Is Infinite.
It flows through you
From the Infinite Love
Of God.

Superfoods
for Coping with Stress

When it comes to combating stress levels,
what you eat may help relieve your tension.
Some foods may help stabilize blood sugar
or your emotional response.
Here are12 foods to reach for
(GREAT for KIDS):

Green leafy vegetables

Like spinach they contain folate, which produces dopamine, a pleasure-inducing brain chemical, helping you keep calm,” says Heather Mangieri, RDN, of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. A 2012 study in the Journal of Affective Disorders of 2,800 middle-aged and elderly people and found those who consumed the most folate had a lower risk of depression. A 2013 study from the University of Otago found that college students tended to feel calmer, happier, and more energetic on days they ate more fruits and veggies.

Turkey breast

Tryptophan in turkey is to blame for that food coma on Thanksgiving.  The amino acid, found in protein-containing foods, helps produce serotonin, “the chemical that regulates hunger and feelings of happiness and well-being,” In a 2006 study published in the Journal of Psychiatry Neuroscience, men and women who were argumentative (based on personality tests) who took tryptophan were perceived as more agreeable compared with when they didn’t take it. (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) Other foods high in tryptophan include nuts, seeds, tofu, fish, lentils, oats, beans, and eggs.

Oatmeal

According to MIT research, carbohydrates can help the brain make serotonin, the same substance regulated by antidepressants. A complex carb like oatmeal won’t contribute to your already potential spike in blood glucose.”

Yogurt

A 2013 UCLA study revealed that consuming probiotics in yogurt reduced brain activity in areas that handle emotion, including stress. You really can’t go wrong by adding more of it to your diet.

Salmon

Ratchet up anxiety hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. The omega-3 fatty acids in salmon help counteract the negative effects of stress hormones,” according to Lisa Cimperman, RD, of the University Hospitals Case Medical Center. In a study funded by the National Institutes of Health, Oregon State University medical students who took omega-3 supplements had a 20% reduction in anxiety. One 3-ounce serving of cooked wild salmon can have more than 2,000 milligrams of omega-3s, double the daily intake recommended by the American Heart Association for people with heart disease.

Blueberries blueberries

The antioxidants and phytonutrients found in berries help improve your body’s response to stress and fight stress-related free radicals.” Research has also shown that blueberry eaters experience a boost in natural killer cells, “a type of white blood cell that plays a vital role in immunity according to Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, Health’s contributing nutrition editor.

pistaciosPistachios

When you have an ongoing loop of negative thoughts playing in your mind, doing something repetitive with your hands may help silence your inner monologue. Think knitting or kneading bread—or even shelling nuts like pistachios or peanuts. The rhythmic moves will help you relax. Pistachios have heart-health benefits. Eating pistachios reduce acute stress by lowering blood pressure and heart rate. They contain key phytonutrients that provide antioxidant support for cardiovascular health.

Dark chocolate

Just a bite, not a whole bar, of dark chocolate can help to regulate your stress levels. Research has shown that it can reduce your stress hormones, including cortisol. The antioxidants in cocoa trigger the walls of your blood vessels to relax, lowering blood pressure and improving circulation. Dark chocolate contains unique natural substances that create a sense of euphoria similar to the feeling of being in love!” Go for varieties that contain at least 70% cocoa.

milkMilk

Fortified milk is an excellent source of vitamin D, a nutrient to boost happiness. A 50-year-long study by London’s UCL Institute of Child Health found an association between reduced levels of vitamin D and an increased risk of panic and depression. People whith sufficient vitamin D levels had a reduced risk of panic disorders. Other foods high in vitamin D include salmon, egg yolks, and fortified cereal.

Seeds

Flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are great sources of magnesium (as are leafy greens, yogurt, nuts, and fish). Loading up on the mineral helps regulate emotions. Magnesium has been shown to help alleviate depression, fatigue, and irritability.

Avocadoalvacado

This superfruit helps shut down stress-eating by filling your belly and making you feel more satisfied. In a 2014 study by Loma Linda University (which we MUST note was sponsored by the Hass Avocado Board), reduced desire to eat more by 40% for the three hours.

cashewsCashews

Researchers gave zinc supplements to people who were diagnosed with anxiety symptoms (irritability, lack of ability to concentrate) and patients saw a 31% decrease in anxiety, according to Nutrition and Metabolic Insights. Zinc affects the levels of a nerve chemical that influences mood. Other zinc-rich foods are oysters, beef, chicken, and yogurt. Cashews are also rich in omega-3s and protein, so they’re a smart snack.
