A Wind That Blows Lonely / The Antithesis of Love / Friday: Modern Art Museum

Love is the answer,
and the Prayer.

child-and-mom

Look into the future smiling back.

There’s a wind that blows
lonely
across the barren plains
of our memory.
Soft,
it caresses the face
that refused to turn
into the wind,
toward the ones
so Loved,
to look into
the future
smiling back.
And now,
the past
no longer belongs
to us.

“Yes I knowdon
how lonely life can be.

The shadows follow me
And the night won’t set me free.
But I don’t let the evening
bring me down

Now that you’re around me.

The book of life is brief
And once a page is read
All but love is dead
This is my belief.”
– Don Mclean

Life itself is an answer to Prayer.

God still whispers
into the restless void
of our lonely aching Hearts.

But so very often,
we recognize not
His answers to our Prayers,
simply because
we have never had need to pray
for so very many Blessings in Life
already bestowed
upon us.

No,
we never had need
for such Prayer,
for our needs were met
long before
awareness
needed a reason
to be.

So very many Blessings in Life
we never recognized
were answers
to Prayer,
Prayers we never had the need
to say.

“Therefore I tell you,
do not worry about your life,
what you will eat, or about your body,
what you will wear.
For life is more than food,
and the body more than clothing.
Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap,
they have neither storehouse nor barn,
and yet God feeds them.
Of how much more value are you
than the birds!”
Luke 12:22-24

Such is the Love
of a Mother and a Father
for a deeply Loved
Child.
Such is the Love
of your Father in Heaven
for YOU.

You are an answer to Prayer.

Life itself,
is an answer
to Prayer.

You
are an answer
to Prayer.

Look about you.
There is nothing,
absolutely NOTHING,
that does not answer
some Prayer,
somehow,
somewhere,
at sometime,

by someone.

   Silence has the loudest voice.

Dear Friends,
there is scarcely anyone

who does not desire something
beyond
what is good for them.
So rather than hurt you
when the honesty’s too much,
God answers some Prayer
with the tender syllables
of silence,
until the moment
subsides.

Silence is like a River of Grace
inviting us to leap unafraid
into its beckoning depths.
It is dark and mysterious
in the waters of Grace.
Yet in the silent darkness
we are given new eyes.
In the Heart of the Divine
we can see more clearly who we are.
We are renewed and cleansed
in this
River of Silence.

– MACRINA WIEDERKEHR, Seven Sacred Pauses

Such is Love
in you,
that in the Sacred stillness
and the quiet
of a thoughtful moment,
with Wisdom and Grace,

  you proclaim a silent Love
Divine.

Silence is the only language
of the realized.

“There are times
when silence
has the loudest voice.”
Leroy Brownlow

By simply accepting
what God already provides,
we are made aware
and acknowledge
Prayer
never offered,
never needed,
but answered
just the same.

My Dear Friends,
Love

is the answer,
and
the Prayer.

“In the darkness of my dreaming,
the Light of you will stay.
If I could be close beside you,

If I could be where you are,
If I could reach out and touch you,
and bring you back home.
Is there a way I can find you
Is there a sign I should know,
Is there a road I could follow,
to bring you back home
to me.”
– Roma Ryan

So very often
we find ourselves
in the midst
of the greatest Answer
to the most fervent Prayer:
that we are
deeply
Loved.

Welcome Home.

The Antithesis of
Love

My Precious Friends,
Addiction
is the antithesis
of Love.
It can become
the destroyer of Worlds –
of your World,
and sadly,
that of your child.

Little understood,
like Cancer,
it devours the very substance
of the Life
we pretend goes on.
The fabric of our existence
feeds our addictions.
And the bacterial excrement of
Alcohol,
like cancer, can devour
and permanently change
the very structure
of the Human brain,
and more importantly,
the Hopes and Dreams,
of our precious Children.

Alcohol, like cancer, can devour and permanently change the very structure of the Human brain.

People who have been drinking
large amounts of alcohol
for long periods of time
develop serious and persistent
changes IN THE BRAIN.

It is
much like an enemy in battle,
sneaking behind the lines
to disarm the troops
before they can engage
in combat,
while front line soldiers
stare straight ahead,
totally unaware,
wondering what is going on,
and why we cannot attack
and win.

Our ignorance,
our blind arrogance,
our naivety,
disarm us
and we never know
how!

“Sometimes we know,
sometimes we don’t.

Sometimes we give,
sometimes we won’t.

Sometimes we’re strong,
sometimes we’re wrong.

Sometimes we cry.

Well,
we’re gonna have to sit down
and think it right through.
If we’re only Human
what more can we do?
– Van Morrison

Our other addictions –
to linear thinking –
becoming too focused to get
the BIG picture,

to compressing time,
to the allure of complexity and dependency
upon technology,
to drugs we know
virtually nothing about,
have shrunk the number of outlets
for the daring, aggressive nature
of mankind,
that fought the good fight,
with a deep seated
Love of Courage
to map the unknown
and go
where mankind
has never gone
before.

This saddens,
but doesn’t surprise.
The Heroes
of our proud Past,
the Soldiers of our good fortune,
no longer are
of the same branch,
on the same tree,
or even
in the same forest.

The courage
to Love one another
enough to fight
the good fight,
to vanquish
the enemy within,
we cannot accept,
because
we cannot even recognize
that it is us.

“We shall meet the enemy,
and not only may he be ours,
he may be us.”
– Walter C. Kelly, Jr.

But when Life
breaks you,
and brings you
to your knees,
know that God will hear you
through your fervent Prayer,
and hold you
in warm embrace.

we would know true Love.”

Love
can command you,
it can rule over
your precious Heart

or
you can let it
pass you by.

But please remember:

Everything
outside of Love
is a lie.

Do not be trapped
within a prison
of doubt.
The Loving You
is no illusion.

The Honesty of your Love
is the only
Truth.

And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you
free.

– John 8:32

Goodnight.

Spanning the worlds of graffiti, pop art, and consumer culture, KAWS’s bodies of work are highly charged, each conveying his underlying wit, irreverence, and affection for our times, as well as his agility as an artist. He has primarily looked to and appropriated from pop-culture animations (including The Smurfs, The Simpsons, SpongeBob, Hanna-Barbera, and Peanuts) to form his artistic vocabulary for his paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Now well known for his larger-than-life sculptures and hard-edge paintings that emphasize line and color, KAWS’s cast of hybrid cartoon/human characters, with similarities to popular cartoon figures and logos like Mickey Mouse and the Michelin Man, are perhaps the strongest examples of his exploration of humanity.

The Modern maintains one of the foremost collections of modern and contemporary art in the United States.
